  • Great new drill.
Great battery like and fast charging.

  • The battery is the best part
I got this used from amazon warehouse for half off (it was basically new) and it's a pretty average drill. The only redeeming factor is the battery, it charges super fast (thoughthe fans on the charger are also very loud)

  • Pay attention when installing hand grip.
There will be times when both hands on the tool would be a good idea. This particular grip is not the typical "infinity-of-potential-positions" that we have gotten used to. I like to have my right hand on the trigger. There is exactly one grip position to accommodate that. With not much distance between my two hands, in stark contrast with the Bosch cordless 1/2" hammer drill it was my pleasure to review recently. (With hands about two feet apart, you really can "plant your feet" and feel your leverage. Hands just a few inches apart, not so much.) I suppose the designers may have realized that most of the time their drill will not have this handle attached at all, so why not get it away from the business end of this drill altogether? Why clutter the chuck and the clutch selector with a machined attachment ring of endless never chosen options? Therefore, beyond the choice of handedness, there is only one correct way to install the handle, which is metal to metal and very strong. If you find yourself trying to clamp onto a rubber shape that looks potentially viable, stop wondering why this doesn't exactly work. About half an inch away, you will find the intended point of attachment. I expect the handle will just be left installed, to be there when needed. On those occasions when it really is in the way, it is a matter of a few seconds (no tools) to remove it. The thing about these handles is that it's very easy to lose them if you don't keep them in the case when not being used. Which leads me to an interesting observation. The Bosch drill came with no case at all. This CAT shipped in a full size, PERFECT case, in which everything fits securely and there will be room for the accumulation of attachments. The Bosch did include a few top-quality driver bits. I'd have rather received a decent case. By the way, I've been complaining about the zero-quality bits and attachments thrown into other drill kits, forever. Nice to see that pro quality tools don't insult us with any of that! For about the same cost, the Bosch has a bigger battery (8Ah vs 5Ah), an almost huge handle of familiar design, and lots of bells and whistles. The CAT is a clean tool with no special extras. I'll use the Bosch when I need the extra with gratitude, but man, I've got to say, I LIKE the CAT so much more! The whole experience has been a pleasure. The battery and charger are MAGNIFICANT. As are the Bosch versions, which are necessarily bulkier and heavier. (Hard to get everything in a single package.) I seem to be saying that the Bosch will be hulking in the background until needed. This CAT is going to be the drill for more daily use. Lighter. Compact. Great (Fast-Charging) Battery with plenty of power. Do I have to say it? Highly recommended as legitimate professional quality. As reflected in the price. ... show more

  • Compact Powerhouse
This CAT DX13 hammer drill is without question the most powerful drill I have ever owned. It appears to be very well made and of the high quality you would expect from the CAT brand. The textured grip is comfortable and gives you a secure hold on the tool. The clutch setting on the chuck was initially a little bit stiff, but after a few uses, it now operates very smoothly. The brushless motor is smooth and gives you great high speed drilling ability. The 5Ah graphene battery is bit heavy, but gives you gobs of run time and plenty of power. CAT claims that the graphene battery will charge quicker than conventional lithium ion batteries, and it seems to be true. I was amazed at just how quickly this big battery charged with the included 15A charger. The charger itself has a cooling fan to help keep things cool and safe. If you have other CAT "1 For All" cordless tools, the charger and battery pack included with this kit will be extremely useful. It comes with a removable side handle which helps control the drill. The attachment is a little bit wonky, but it does hold securely. Unlike other hammer drills, it does not have a depth stop rod, which is a feature that I wish was included. It does comes with a belt clip pre-installed, but I find that it just gets in the way, so I have removed it from mine. I needed to drill some 3/16" holes in a concrete for Tapcon style concrete screws, so I used that as an opportunity for quick test. This is not a strenuous test at all, but I was still impressed with how quickly and effortlessly this drill got the job done. It was like I was drilling into a bit of softwood. Overall, I am highly impressed with the CAT line of power tools and the DX13 is no exception to this. At $304, It is a little pricey, but the included 5Ah graphene battery and 15A charger do make it a better value than it seems, especially if you have other cordless CAT tools. I can confidently recommend this cordless hammer drill. ... show more

  • Has plenty of power. Design of interlocking cases is versatile.
The drill works great. The hammer function works as expected. Lots of power and just a good drill overall. The issues I have are below. They didn't seem a big deal at the end of the day but I'll list them so you can decide. The battery is just a 5Ah but it is huge. I have an 8Ah battery that is about the same size. The battery charger is LOUD. A fan kicks on as it's charging and it is louder than it needs to be. Maybe I'm missing something here but that fan is running at full speed and I don't think it needs to. The interlocking feature of the cases... Hook in the rear and drop the front. Nope. Hook in the rear and depress the lower buttons so the front and hook and lock. You shouldn't have to depress the buttons to latch the cases together--you should need to depress the buttons to separate the cases. I'm not a fan of the case's regular lid latches. They're just snap latches. Probably fine but the design of the cases is that you can latch them one on top of each other and carry them all with the handle on the very top. How many cases can you latch together and carry? The latches on the very top case will have carry the weight all beneath... That's it for the issues I have. They're minor in the overall scheme of things. For example, I like the case design and the easily removable (disposable) inserts. Then these cases act as toolboxes. Although not very super heavy things (my opinion here). I like the power of the drill. If I know I need a hammer function, I'd probably use my SDS Plus or Max but nice to know the hammer function is there if needed. ... show more
