My wife and I have a bad cappuccino habit. Started while on a visit to Italy. Continued when we returned home. Gets expensive to buy two a day from a coffee bar. This machine came highly recommended. For once the recommendations were on the money. It makes good cappuccino, is modestly priced and after some trial and error makes cappuccino as good as most coffee bars. Instructions that come with the machine are clear and have pictures to make the procedure clear. Just follow the instructions. Bought three essential tools to go with the machine. A good heavy weight, aluminum tamper. The plastic one that comes with the machine is wimpy. Took me about ten tries. First, get the right espresso coffee. Tried some Italian versions. Not so good. Settled on Starbucks espresso, dark roast. Not ground to a powder like some espresso coffee, but works well in this machine. I'm too lazy to grind my own beans. Next, the right milk. Many coffee bars use one percent milk. We found it too watery. Changed to whole milk and that works fine. The amount of frothed milk you add to the espresso affects the strength of the taste. I suggest you don't add all the frothed milk in the pitcher to the top of the espresso cup all at once. Try 3/4 full. Probably too strong. Then keep adding the frothed milk in increments until you find the right amount of frothed milk that satisfies your taste. You don't have to buy this. But you need two cups. Any cup to capture the steam coming from the machine and a 12 ounce cup for the espresso/cappuccino. The 12 ounce cup has to be wide and not high so it will fit under the spouts where the espresso comes out. Tip. Turning the handle while on the machine was hard. A tiny drop of vegetable oil on your finger tip, rubbed on the edge of the cup containing the coffee, before inserting it into the machine, makes the handle turn easily. Doesn't effect the taste. Just use a tiny smear. All in all, this is a great buy. The machine makes 12 ounces of fine cappuccino in the convenience of your own home. I timed the process. Works great. Easy to use. Looks nice. Great value. Perfect for a New York apartment. Takes a few tries to get it seasoned but then makes a very good cappuccino. Wish the steamer knob was not right over the steam.

This is by no means a professional espresso machine. But for most of us who just want a good cup of espresso and not break the bank, this machine is great. build quality feels good. Easy to understand instructions. And the esthetics are pleasing. The coffee tastes great at the end with a nice crem'e. And steaming the milk is usable. The bad, is the tamper they give you is terrible. Decent scoop but don't bother with the tamper side. Go and buy and better one for like 20 bucks. ... show more

    • I REALLY Wanted to Love this thing, now I do!

I really wanted to love this machine. I just don't think it has enough power to get the water hot enough long enough for proper brewing. It's a VERY attractive machine, perfectly sized for my needs as well (though the water tank is quite small more on that in a moment). In trying to get a shot out, and following directions today. I turned on, room temp water, waited for lights to stop blinking, and as per instructions ran a cycle through it. Checked water temp out of brew basket and in pre-warmed cup. Only 160 tops coming out, 140-145 in cup. Let boiler recover, tried again got maybe an additional 5 deg. In short, I had to run 4 complete brew cycles waiting for boiler recovery between cycles, in short going through a half tank of water (about 17 oz of the 34 oz tank), before I got a brew temp in the proper extraction range (though even then it only got to full temp for about 2 seconds before quickly falling back off). I was able to brew a double shot, but it definitely was NOT hot. Just respectively "warm". Really sad because this little machine looks so well made, and attractive and not cheap at all. But it's just too much work to deal with. Update: I have to say, at the very least #1 this company seems to REALLY care about customer experience. They got right back to me, and will be getting my issues to their tech team. Also I will say, while I did have issues (and do), if you go through the trouble to making sure the machine is heated up well, it can and does give you a delish espresso with good crema and such. So I have no doubt the machine could have the capability to perform well. And I do feel better about the quick response from Caasabrews Update #2 I am giving this machine and the company 5 stars. Long story short. They saw this original review. Responded immediately in a VERY positive way. Bottom line this past weekend my son in law who likely could forget nearly everything he knows about using these types of machines and still know more than me, looked into the issues I was having. The issues were mine NOT the machine's. Totally operator error. Just this afternoon, i pulled a double shot with it, and darn near burned myself on the first sip. Definitely HOT coffee. I purchased this to replace a Mr Coffee expresso machine that I had used for over 20 years that finally died. I did have to read the instructions multiple times as this unit had features not available in my previous one. Such as the ability to program the machine to customized the amount of coffee syrup produced when pressing either of the one cup of the one cup or two cup buttons. Also unit has safety features to prevent unsafe operations. the coffee syrup produced has a wonderful creme to it. and the milk frothing is perfect.
