  • Excellent, Easy To Operate
This is an excellent espresso machine and from the first espresso after following the setup processes, it delivered an excellent espresso, which has never happened before for me. Usually there is a learning curve where subtle differences mean big impacts on results. It is packaged very well. I love the tape to secure parts which come loose, like the drip tray, are taped but one end of tape on every piece of tape is doubled over like a pull handle. Saves the aggravation of scraping the tape edges with a fingernail. No tape adhesive was left behind. Where you insert the portafilter the receiver is covered in adhesive plastic wrap. Carefully remove, this is so sticky it felt like it could leave adhesive and did; it left one speck in a hard-to-reach place. Instructions, both the quick start guide, and the instruction manual are quite good. They differ in subtle ways from one another if comparing the same instruction. Example: the quick start guide says to swirl the milk container after frothing and heating the liquid milk below. It said this creates a creamy texture. I did not know that. The more comprehensive instruction manual leaves this out. I followed the quick start guide to prepare the machine to the letter. Well written with good pictures. I wish the quick start guide mentioned the following given it takes you through making a cup of espresso: how to get the used filter cup out of the basket. So after you unscrew the portafilter, to remove the filter most are in by tension, but this has a bump which you have to align with a slot in the portafilter basket. When you install the basket, you'd line up the two and the rotate, so it's locked in, but I didn't know I did even that. So I didn't realize I had to undo it to clean it. I got a butter knife and started prying gently with the blunt end since my fingernails weren't doing the trick. Then I grabbed a pair of pliers but didn't use them. It seemed wrong. then I noticed on the empty basket - you get a 1 cup and a 2 cup, the bump on the outside. And there's an indentation on the opposite side of the basket wall where they punched the bump, so you can always find it. it came out so easily! I really like this bump and slot system instead of using fingernails. Tightening the portafilter in place requires some muscle as it's a tight fit for now. We burr grind our coffee to between espresso and drip for drip coffee, and I just used that for the espresso. I got a very good crema for the first use. The frother works very well, the water reservoir is secure. You can fill it at the sink or in place. The unit itself is fairly narrow, compact and not loud. It's a beautiful machine, with no creaks, nice feeling materials and blue LEDs. I have not yet started using the pressure gauge as a guide. That's new information for me too and I look forward to my growth in this area. ... show more

  • Great machine for the price
We've had this espresso machine for about 2-3 weeks now. It works great, set up is simple. It does not come with a steam jug for milk so you should know that when buying and I would recommend buying a different tamp and portafilter. The one that comes with it works fine but I personally dont like that the basket doesnt snap in it just kind of rests in there. But overall great machine for the price! ... show more

  • Great little machine. Easy to use. Makes a great espresso.
For the record, this is my first espresso machine, so I'm not an expert. It has been a pretty easy learning curve for me. The directions are clear about how to get the espresso that you desire. I also got the Casabrews grinder at the same time, so I've been using freshly ground coffee during all of my experimentation. The instructions say that the goal is to brew a double shot over about 25 to 35 seconds, while keeping the pressure gauge in the green. At first I was using too fine of a grind and I was causing too much pressure in the machine (going well into the black) and ending up with a tiny espresso shot. As I learned to adjust the grind to the best setting, I've been getting really nice shots, loaded with crema. I've been making delicious Americanos every morning and I really don't miss my French press. At first installing the portafilter felt tight and the machine felt like it was going to topple over with the effort. I was consistently supporting the machine while I installed the portafilter, but with time, it seems like it has just gotten easier to load the portafilter without pushing the machine around too much. I am not sure if it has to do with the difference in how much coffee was in the portafilter, or if the machine is just slightly loosened up (but what would be loose?), or if I just have better technique. Regardless, I'm happy. I've been using the machine for a couple of weeks now and it is easy and satisfying and reliable. Filling the tank is easy by either removing it from the back and taking it to the sink, or flipping the lid and filling it in place. You can see through the tank to see when it is getting low and there's never been any issues with leakage. The one thing that is still a source of frustration, though, is how easy the filter falls out of the portafilter. It slips in with a little bump in the filter sliding into a groove in the receiver and then you spin it to keep it in place. It spins so easily, that just wiping the grounds off the top before installing it in the machine makes it spin around. When trying to tap the grounds out, it often falls out. I don't have a good solution for using for tapping the grounds out, so I spoon them out for now and in the process, I'm turning the filter around. I wish it fit tighter, I really do. It comes with a double shot filter and a single shot filter and the issue is the same with both. It's a nice little machine, looks great on my counter, is so easy to use and I think it is totally worth the price. It is a great beginner model, in my opinion, being that I'm a beginner (brewer, not consumer), and it was easy and fun to learn to use. It is small enough that it doesn't take up much space on my counter. It is a slim design, which I really appreciate, even though at first I was worried that I would knock it over trying to load it. I've really not had any issues with the product. My one little gripe about the loose filter is the only thing and I can live with that. ... show more
