Faux fur at it's best guys. This thing is so soft you would want to fall asleep on it. There is some shedding going on, but mine doesn't get that much traction because it's in the guest room. Haven't washed it yet either, only had it a few weeks. It is a true black, no greys or other color in between. No odors, although I left it outside for a few minutes just to be safe.
