    • Thick, Durable Tarp That Looks Good and Works Great for Freeze Protection

This is a very nice, heavy-duty tarp. I purchased the 20x20 ft, 12-mil version to help protect a young lemon tree that I planted last year and is still too fragile to handle hard freezes on its own. When sub-freezing temperatures are expected, I open up an 8-foot A-frame ladder and place it over the tree, hang a shop light from the top of the ladder, and then cover the entire temporary structure with a tarp. This traps the heat from the light bulb inside and has consistently worked for me to protect young fruit trees until they are mature enough to handle cold stress. This CARTMAN tarp is thick, durable, and does exactly what I need it to do. I also really appreciate the brown color — it looks much better in the yard during winter than the bright neon blue tarp it replaced. It is definitely heavy duty. I use it to cover my wood pile and it’s more than adequate for that purpose. The tarp this is replacing was an 18 mil and it lasted for about five years and is still useable, although faded and a little thin in places. I suspect the 20 mil will last quite a bit longer.

Very sturdy! This is a well built tarp. I bought it big enough to cover my roof just in case we get a hurricane. It’s heavy which is good. I haven’t actually had to use and honestly hoping I don’t ever have to for the reason I bought it but I’m sure it will be perfect.

Same tarp as last purchased,20 mil. Lasted 5 years. Downside the center grommet by center fold location was crushed in 1/2 at fold. From factory. Delivery wasn't overnight as promised. Was thankful wind& rain cooperated while waiting for 2 Days. Would have made different plans if known about delay.

Better than expected but to be honest, my bar was pretty low. I’m used to dealing with Harbor Freight tarps for covering the back of my Suburban. This tarp was fantastic. Thick. Heavy. The idea is it will spend the season covering the roof of my 25’ travel trailer. I’m hoping it will protect from any water/rain damage. It doesn’t really freeze where I have it this year, so that’s ok. The holes are good size but these grommets seemed like who ever was installing them was not attentive. Most of the grommets were just a little un matched making a sharp edge that I am hoping won’t cut the twine I tied the tarp down with. Installing it was a bear by myself. It’s 12 x 30. I needed it to cover a 25 foot trailer. So I set a ladder up and walked on the roof. It definitely would be easier with two or three adults. So for now, I will give it a five star rating and we’ll see if I need to reevaluate my rating after the season is over. ... show more

Edit: The cheap material just shredded, not at the grommets or the seams. Just turned to powder from the cheap materials. It just made it through winter. I took care of this tarp and constantly adjusted the paracord just tight enough that wind could not get under it, yet loose enough that it would not tear. I will not replace this tarp, as I feel they are probably all made by similar manufacturing processes, though I do wish I could get the tent material in a tarp. I did all this for longevity, but the money I spent on this thief in the night tarp, I can let the tent cover last a couple of years, by a new tent cover and be ahead. I am highly disappointed this didn't even last a year. What a wasted of my time. January 21, 2026 The first one I had to return, as it was manufactured with a defect in one of the two seams that run the length of the 24' section of the tarp. The second one was fine. I installed it on top of a 13'x20' tent that I purchased for temporary storage in about May of 2025. I set up the tent so that the peak runs north and south, so that the tarp would get even distribution of UV rays on each side of the peak throughout summer. I did this to protect the tent for longevity and to give it some extra weight for wind. The tent was spendy and is designed for even a snow load. By the end of summer the top of the tarp has become a powdery off-white and a small tear started where a box I had stacked on a shelf was just touching the tent's canopy. While the tent canopy is fine, the tarp got torn. It was not from rubbing - the wind lifted the canopy up and down, but because the sun destroyed the coating over the mesh, which caused it to become brittle and weak. While I can repair it when the weather improves, I will NEVER purchase another Cartman tarp again. This is their thickest and only lasted about 4 months before the sun did its damage. I have looked into some kind of rubberized paint to protect it for another season, but have found nothing yet. Hope this helps. ... show more
