  • Had this on my wish list for over a year !
-update- Ok so we had a big wind storm. I knew it was coming got the alerts. Sustained 30mph gusts 45 out of the south west which meant my camper would shield the room and I elected to leave it up. I put away everything inside it and remained on point but I wanted to see how it would handle. It did well until about half way through the storm the wind shifted to the north and became direct impact on the room. This caused the main wall to cave in pulling the stakes out and once the wind got in there it was all over the whole room came loose the arms fell and I was right there half expecting this and able to deal with it. So I got wet it was raining but I unzipped it took it down balled it up thew it in the back of my truck under the tonau cover rolled up the awning and went inside to dry off. Took me about ten min. This was not putting it all away properly of course but so you know what to expect in a storm if it has to come down in a hurry. No damage to it. I was able to catch it in action. No damage to awning. ——- Wow! Ok so I have had this thing on my wish list for over a YEAR. I have read every comment word for word a dozen times and researched it on other places around the internet read all the reviews I could and sucked up all the tips and knowledge and finally pulled the plug. Arrived yesterday by amazon delivery they set it right under my awning at the camp site made me smile when I came back from pool. I’ll update this review later after some wind storms and use - but so initial thoughts ..... first off - they aren’t lying when they say first setup is a PAIN. It involves swearing and throwing things but after you figure it all out - and the directions are written for several different kinds of awning attachment points which doesn’t help. But once you figure out how it goes on YOUR camper and YOUR awning I can see how it will get substantially easier in time with practice. One thing to note the upper attachment arms for your A typical care free awning that sides right in the drip rail on roof edge - is NOT designed to work with awnings Like mine that have the metal cover (first foot or so of awning is metal). It won’t go in there it can’t slide up under it. It would if you had fabric in the drip rail but not metal. So. I used a pair of vise grips and sort of bent the tabs on the end to “make it work” and due to friction and force pushing outwards against the roller it holds. We will see in high winds. Speaking of which I have the app “ windy “ highly recommend. (It’s free) It will send you alerts if wind in your area is forecast to exceed a threshold you set like I chose 30mph. That gives me time to take the room down and brace for it. Wont help in a sudden summer thunderstorm tho of course is what it is and that’s why I also have upright supports under my roller that go in the corners of the room (just 2x4 painted black) and strong ratchet tie down straps on the outside which go to cork screws deep into the ground. (Told you I have been giving this thought for a while lol). So another thing your seeing in my pics the upper corners again due to my metal thing hard to seal with the Velcro pieces they give you - this is just to keep bugs out, I am going to engineer something that fits in there perhaps some foam board painted black but is what it is. The door I hate. Lol. I really do. Stupid design and the zippers will go to crap fast just like a tent. For that I have ordered one of them walk through magnetic screen things should be here in few days and my plan is to carefully sew it into the fabric permanently on the inside but duct tape would work in a pinch. Just ugly. These are cool you can just walk through them and they have magnets that seal the screen back up behind you. Really made for sliding glass doors on a house I’ll have to trim and shorten but that’s my plan and I’ll update later how that goes. I was worried that all the pics show C class campers and I have a big old diesel pusher A class which a very high roof but to my surprise I have a good 3 feet of tarp material left at the bottom of the sides to tuck under my carpet no problem at all - this is what the v shape zipper section at the top of the sides is for to adjust for 12’ awnings or lower ones like a C class. Another note - measure the length of your FABRIC not the roller the fabric itself which in my case is 18’ 8”. And so the 18-19’ version of this fits perfectly under the fabric on both sides and the clips go right on. I also have those plastic clamp things that hold the fabric to the arm ( anti buffeting ) this is recommended for the room in my opinion because it offers counter force to those room clips pulling on the fabric we don’t want to tear it. Over all I am extremely happy and day one this morning having my morning coffee out there in my new room - zero buyers remorse. It cost more than my golf cart but so far very happy with the purchase. I am also going to spray the whole thing with water proofing like a tent. They don’t recommend this - water and light detergent only but it’s nylon just like a tent what’s the diff. And the coating will help it repel water and dirt. Since when did I listen to directions anyway. Lol. Very happy ! Buy one. You will be too. ... show more

  • If you live in Kansas
This room is nice but it doesn’t hold up to much wind. If you live in Kansas don’t buy.

  • Kinda flimsy in the wind
It is a good way to add a screen room to your rv. However, the tension arms are VERY flimsy. Here in Florida when we get a strong wind, they blow right off the mounting points. We duct taped them to the awning support to get them to stay. It is not waterproof either. It reduces rain getting in, but we still get puddles inside the tent when it rains. Good idea, wish it was sturdier. ... show more

  • Bad customer service
Missing one piece. Call Carefree customer support and receive a call back right away and was told they would send it out right away. After a week never received it. Told 3 times they were over nightingale it so we could use it on our vacation. Never sent it. Now will not return calls.

  • Use Awning supports with this product!
Some things to know, I'm using this Carefree product with my 18' Solera Awning. The RV Awning Room weighs over fifty pounds, I would not recommend use it without using the awning support kit (Carefree HD Stabilizer Awning Support Pole Kit - R019399-002). [See supports in attached pics] The Awning Room worked great. I put it up (by myself) in under an hour (I watched a tone of You Tube Videos' prior to purchasing and it went up exactly as expected), I never even looked at the directions. I found its assembly to be very intuitive, however, I am 6'-2" and I still needed a short ladder to install and teardown the RV Awning Room . The horizontal side sheet support bars hang off of the awning track at the trailer and extend out to the extended awning roller bar/tube, held in place by pressure (like a compression shower rod). The support bars kept sliding off of the awning roller tube so I ended up tying them in place with a foot or two of paracord. We had two full days of rain with little wind when we were camping and other then some tiny leaks here and there (side of awning and at trailer), no real issues. The upper fabric is very light, much like what you would have with a tent (assume it is so light to minimize the weight hanging off the awning). The windows are a heavier clear plastic and the lower section is a heavy canvas/vinyl material. The plastic windows unzip and roll up from the outside, while the inner tent canvas unzips to roll down on the inside exposing the screen that is sewn in place. All and all, it worked great and I am very happy we got it. We used it as a mud-room where we could take off our wet shoes and clean up before entering the camper. We also used it as a TV room where we could watch some of the bowl games with other camping friends. It nearly doubles our indoor camping space. ... show more

  • The horizontal rafters poor design
The add a room is made of a durable light weight material. however the horizontal rafter on either end of the awning does not stay in position. It is suppose to tuck under the awning at the trailer interface but does not stay in position. Also if you plan on putting this up while traveling, make sure you pack a ladder...... ... show more

  • Adds so much extra space
When we used it it rained and everything stayed dry. We definitely needed a ladder to install - we have the 18' version and it worked really well. The second time setting it up was much easier than the 1st. Very pleased with it.

  • Great during high winds 40-60 mph
The gap at the top on both sides could have been designed better. Large gaps on each end. Other than that it is excellent
