  • What it is and isn’t (Jeep)
Pattern: Speaker
I recently installed this sub in a 2002 Jeep TJ to replace the factory sub. The stock sub had been out for years. This review is from the perspective of the casual music listener. I was basically looking to restore the low end of my audio. What it is: A super inexpensive subwoofer to restore a factory type listening experience. It handles well in those conditions, and I highly recommend it. It has a good build and feels somewhat durable. What it is not: This is not a large sounding sub or a deep bass producing sub for someone that wants everyone within the vehicle to feel their music. If you want to pull your Jeep up to the beach/block party and be the sole boom box for said event, this sub is probably not for you. But, if that describes you, you are probably not looking at $18 subwoofers. In general: There is simply not anything else in this price range that is going to perform any better. It was $18 and arrived at my house the next day. If the thing only lasts a year or two, I’d purchase another one. I could almost buy 5 of these before I reached the cost of other replacement subs for my vehicle. For the Jeep TJ owners: If you need to replace the factory sub and plan on using the factory amp, this seems like a super simple choice. I know of two other replacement subs— only one real one that requires no modifications. They are 4 and 5 times as much as this sub. This is a dual voice coil 4ohm sub. That’s the same specs as the factory sub. The biggest difference is that you will need to drill new screw holes, as this speaker is slightly smaller than the factory sub (6.5 vs the factory 6.75). This sub is also slightly deeper than the stock sub. So I used a pair of pliers to snap off pieces inside the rear of the stock sub compartment. There are videos online showing this action. There are also videos showing the removal of the factory sub console compartment. The whole process took me less than an hour from start to finish. If I had to do it again, it could probably be accomplished in 20mins. ... show more

  • Great find and sound
Pattern: Speaker
Fantastic sound and almost PERFECT fit for my Klipsch THX subwoofer that blew after many years of enjoyment. This replacement brought it all the way back to life, the only modification was I needed to cut the negative wire because the connector was too small, that was it. What a great find!

  • After pairing with a good amp, these are quite suficient.
Pattern: Speaker
EDIT**** Ok, so i wound up putting this on a 3kwatt max amplifier that is capable of sub ohm driving. A big boy amp. i tried it out with a 6" sub from the same series, but in a custom ported box tuned for 55hz. I ran the 8 in a tube enclosure that is about a cubic inch too small. I hooked it all up in parallel so that it dropped down to a single ohm. I ran the amp just shy of half way and it rocked my world for about 10 mins. The 6 whoomped out completely, the 8 handled it like a champ. I felt like i was gunna have a heart attack. The bass was more than i expected from this combination. Now i run just the 8 in a sealed enclosure at about a third of the max volume of the amp. im putting something like 250-270 watts rms through ust the 8 at 2 ohm and its perfect. put a little bump at 100hz and a +6db curve peaking at 50 hz and its perfect. This sub is good, you just need decent equipment and a good tune when you run it. I will update if i blow it up. i actually ended up warping the basket and now the 6" woofer rattles like a sumbitch, but it technically didnt blow. Im super surprised it didnt catch fire. Im now running a re-coned dvc dual voice coil that does like 800 rms with the boss 8inch sub. got something like 600 watts average on the terminals @.97 ohms. its enough to take your breath away in my old single cab ford. The 6 is an interesting sub. I never actually blew it up, it just warped itself under heavy load. I never would expect this from such an inexpensive sub. im going to order another, but its going in a home audio project where it will never see over 100W. They capture bass that is perfect for classic rock and other types of music that use a more tighter sounding kick drums. If you put juice on it in the 60-100 hz range it really kicks hard, so hard it will warp the actual basket. If you are trying to get heavy hits, i would recomend the 8" or bigger. Im 5"9' and i can comfortably fit an 8" tube enclosure behind my seat and drive my single cab 5-speed. The 10 i have in there now sits on the passenger floor lol. no riders for the sake of bass! ... show more

  • Inexpensive and works great
Pattern: Speaker
Works great as a replacement for the 2004 jeep tj factory sub woofer in the console, takes a little modification but less than an hour of work. A good cheap alternative to the Quadratec plug n play set up.

  • False wattage info.
Pattern: Speaker
Description says can handle 300 watts rms. I use an app that put out 125 watts. Lower the bass On the radio from 12+ to 2+. And Barely got to 3/4. You play for good 30 seconds. And then blew out. I don't recommend this unless you're only gonna use it for a lease fifty watts armless. I don't recommend this unless you're only gonna use it for a lease 50 watts rms. Sound a good for a little while. ... show more
