I got this set after I bought the CAP 370 lbs weight plates with the Olympic Barbell. I need it smaller plates to increase the weight on the Barbell for few pounds. I have been a loyal CAP customer for over a decade. They are my go-to for plates. This is my first time trying the covered kind, and I am disappointed with the quality control. As you can see from the pictures, the rubberized coating is unevenly applied with the iron underneath showing. Much more annoying, each of the plates I ordered were covered in a nasty grimy oil that stinks. I had to clean them from top to bottom with alcohol. For the price, I expected a much better experience. I don't think I will order this kind again and will go back to the uncovered kind when I buy CAP again. Ironically as well the form factor of the grips is less comfortable than the uncovered kind. The edges are a bit hard and not very comfortable to hold. Still love CAP, hope you guys can clean up your manufacturing process for this rubberized one. I will try a different rubberized plate manufacturer next time. ... show more

I spent $60 on a 35 lb plate and $70 on a 45 lb plate. When I compare these to the plates at my gym, I can honestly say that I am TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED with these Cap Weight Plates. They have very sharp edges, so you better wear gloves when handling them. (The ones at my gym are much more comfortable to handle.) Also, they may be rubber coated, but it is a VERY THIN layer of rubber. Speaking of the coating, the black comes off on your hands and surrounding equipment. As expected, nice quality. Do not like the 'toxic' smelling oil that is coating the weights. I am sure it will wear off after awhile. but it's pretty nasty.

These look like they've been in someone else's gym for a while, or the quality control is poor. Scatches, scuffed, and the finish is adequate - no more than that. Many have said that for the price, they're sufficient. Compared to what others are charging for the same poundage, well, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Let me help manage your expectations. These are on the low end but likely sufficient for most home gyms. I have a well-stocked home gym, and I only needed a few plates for my leg extension machine. The 10lb plates were in the worst shape; the 25s and 35s were acceptable, barely, since they are supposed to be new, but I'll keep them. I touched them up with a little silicone spray, which helped some. Again, for a home gym, they are passable, especially given the price of others. I paired these CAP plates with the Amazon Basics plate stand, which is fine for my needs, and I recommend it. ... show more
