  • Great sketchbook for pencil/charcoal drawings

Great sketchbook for pencil/charcoal drawings

  • the pastels colors looked very nice on this paper
Style: 9" x 12" Side Wire
I really like the black paper, the texture is really nice for pastels and I love the way the pastel colors looked on it. I would have liked the thickness to be a little more, but that won't keep me from purchasing this product again, a great product. I'm including a drawing created with pastel chalk, I like the way it turned out on this paper. ... show more

  • Finally my review after a month of playing
Style: 9" x 12" Side Wire
Dont mind the cover, I wanted to take the time to use it and I unfortunately damaged the cover in my backpack but I love this sketch book, so far it's been fun to use and experiment with. My Polychromos work amazingly in this. I'd recommend this sketch book.

  • Black Paper Sketchbook Hides Some Pleasant Surprises
Style: 11" x 14" Side Wire
This is a review of the Canson Black Drawing Paper Sketchbook. So far I have tried two pads of the paper, about 80-90% of each pad. I have painted with watercolor (using local water from the tap), with sumi ink and with acrylic brushes. I have also used pencils, ballpoint pens, Micron pens, and even Sharpies. I believe that this is, by far, the best sketch paper/drawing paper available right now. I use it a lot. Pros: -Excellent surface, yet smooth enough to easilly pick up and move around. -Smooth and durable paper, excellent for broad lines. -No bleeding with most tools. -Bleeds between layers or when sliced with scissors. -Watercolor comes off with a bit of scrubbing, but is more easily removed when wiping it with a finger. -Drawing is bold and crisp, easy to read. -Can be cut into panels and sewn, even glued together. Cons: -Can't say I have any. Other: -Smells like real paper. Overall a great product. -Good for pencils, ballpoint pens, Micron, sumi, watercolor, acrylic. I have not tried this with markers, fine tipped pens, or Sharpies, yet, but I suspect that it works with their ink as well. -One can use tape on the surface without it leaving a residue or bleeding. ... show more

  • Heavy enough for acrylic painting
Style: 9" x 12" Side Wire
Plan on using these for student acrylic painting projects. They’re heavy enough and inexpensive.

  • It’s Canson. It’s great!
Style: 9" x 12" Side Wire
Thick beautiful paper. I love this book and the fact the pages tear out is amazing. It’s almost like a weighted card paper. Super high quality and all types of inks glide smooth. I just started to try and draw and this is really fun to work with. I don’t like white paper. Will be buying more when this one is full. ... show more

  • Mind Splatteringly insanely awesome paper
Style: 11" x 14" Side Wire
I'm telling you, when I got this I was excited all day to come home and play with it. And when I did, I wasn't even...I wasn't even prepared for what awaited me. This paper is damned awesome. I had Derwent Pastel Pencils, some Nupastels, and some Gallery Oil Pastels in my art case I hadn't really been able to find a really great use for. When I started playing with this paper, all three of those fun tools completely gained an entirely NEW life of possibility. Prismacolor Premiers work AWESOME on this paper too, but the Faber Castell PolyChomros are RIDICULOUS. I mean I couldn't believe how awesome, creamy, and VIBRANT the Faber Castells were on this. The paper is basically like Bristle Vellum card stock, ALMOST as thick and tough as that stuff. It has some great tooth to it to grab those colors, but not TOO much. The Best white pencil I have found for it is the Faber Castell Polychromos white colored pencil. It's beautiful, clean, smooth, and striking against this black paper. The contrast is beautiful and amazing. I really wanted this paper to get into drawing some Rey Bustos anatomy drawings and Écorché style drawings like he does. He draws with colored chalk on a black chalkboard and his drawings and studies look BEAUTIFUL. I wanted to do that. Using the Derwent Pastel Pencils and Faber Castell polychomos, I can get a similar beautiful effect that he gets....just without as skilled of anatomy of course! But man...just get this paper. I promise it will open up a whole new world for you. ... show more

  • Great paper but...
Style: 9" x 12" Side Wire
....the cover is just a piece of paper itself which I can see easily tearing. I've never had a Canson sketchbook that didn't have a strong, resilient cover. I had to take off two stars for that because I travel with my sketchbooks often and need them to withstand constant backpack wear and tear. But the paper is absolutely black and beautiful. A lot of sketchbooks that advertise black paper are really dark grey, definitely not the case with this sketchbook. The pages are perforated which is also lovely. If you don't mind not having a cover, you will love this!! ... show more
