  • Perfect for watercolours or mixed-media!
This paper is thick and relatively sturdy which makes it perfect for watercolour. Being cotton, it holds a lot of ink and pigment and behaves as such with a hot pressed rough textured side and a cold pressed smooth side. Carefully taping down the top of the paper on the cold pressed smooth side and expecting buckling, I began to test various mediums on the paper with an aqua brush. I noticed no pilling or breakage using all but the wet Tombow or bullet nib generic alcohol marker. All other mediums produced a very smooth and beautiful result that left the paper unbuckled. I even saturated the corner in anticipation with watercolour to see if it buckled. There was no curling. Next was the washi tape test which would tell me if it was okay to tape the paper down for a border. I'm very happy to say that there was zero bleed through on the tape and no tearing of the paper! The trick is yo carefully and slowly peel the washi tape off or you might rip the edges as with even normal paper impatience can cause tears. :) Overall, for the cost, I'd highly recommend this paper for either watercolour or mixed media because the results were fantastic. I'll be using the rest for many personal projects! ... show more

  • Good absorption
Great for wet paint but they were way smaller than I had expected

  • Good for testing and practice
As with all things, you get what you pay for. This pack of sheets isn't high-end thick watercolor paper. It is made of cotton, and it will behave as such, but the quality isn't suitable for your final paintings or for gifts/display pieces. The sheets have a coarse cold pressed texture on one side, and a smoother hot pressed texture on the other, which is odd, but gives some flexibility. The sheets are thin, so I wouldn't recommend double sided use, although I didn't experience any bleed through when using them so it may be alright. Quite a few of the sheets have defects and wrinkles/folds on the coarse textured side (see photos). This will cause issues in your painting, so be sure to use the smooth side on sheets with the defect. The paper is soft, and tears almost everythime I've used washi tape on the border. I tried with both my expensive Paul rubens paint tape and my cheap washi tape and both tore the top layer of the paper (see photo). Absorption is good, although it will dry faster than quality watercolor paper because it is so thin. I did do one fully wet on wet application with some drops of paint to observe the spread and how the pigment settles into the fiber. It performs nicely for the price/quality. I will be using these to test methods, color combos, and practice my free-hand painting before cresting my final peice on quality watercolor blocks. Overall, if you're learning or an educator and need something inexpensive that still performs as a cotton paper, this is a good value. ... show more
