Forget all the negative here. I'm 89 year old and been using computers since 1984. I have an HP with a drawer, (who in the world would buy a computer without one???) Anyway I had no problems using the CD to set the printer up or following the instructions to do so. The area it takes up is a third of what my old Cannon all in one did. More desktop space to use. It is light enough anyone can pick it up with ease. It is well worth the 5 stars I gave it. My only complaints are and they aren't large; (1) it doesn't ask you if you want an icon on the screen and you have to find the printer on the control panel or hard drive and tell the computer to put one there. (2) and this is the largest thing to me, it takes so long to a-line the heads. I have never had to a-line heads in any printer, so this was new but it was very time consuming although you were walked through it step by step. Along with the time, the printer had to use ink to show you the a-lineaments so you can click the various areas on the screen to set them for the best printing. I hope Cannon took this into consideration when they loaded the ink cartridges that came with it. (I did buy a second set of the XL at the time I got the computer). (3) with my arthritic hands it took a little bit to get the cartridges in, there is no latch like the other printers have so you have to push in and up till they click. As for the operation it is great, the print is clear, it doesn't take long to print (exception is the a-lineament pages) and it doesn't give you any sass. It is the next step up from the old printers we started out with that had the tape that ran back and fourth and could be loaded from the bottom so you could set an entire paper case under them.. Loved those old ones. This one to me and for me is great. I don't need nor do I like the All In Ones I find something is always not working or jamming, or taking time, or giving me sass etc. I don't print a lot, statements etc at end of month, or perhaps a picture now and then. For the kid in collage for the older person who just wants a nice SIMPLE PRINTER and doesn't need a FAX or the SCANNER coming with it, this is a fantastic step. I always have thought that you need your computer pieces separate, so that when one goes out you don't loose the fax and scanner etc. It's much more expensive to replace an All In One for home then just run out and pick up a printer or a scanner. I have used a cannon Lide scanner for years; I'm on my third one and love my extra pieces sitting on their own and not together. That said this is a fantastic little light weight work horse printer that is easy to install, easy to use, and doesn't give any sass or say it can't print, you're off line, paper jam, etc. I recommend it for people who don't need all the bells and whistles that an all in one gives (provided you can get and keep them working), and only need to print paper or a picture. I hope Cannon keeps this printer in their line up because when mine goes out, if it does, I want another one. ... show more

Ink tanks are large. Set up is easy. Prints nice quality. Good price/value. Make sure to buy a printer USB cable because it's not included. It comes with a CD but you won't need it. Just connect the printer to your PC, type "printers" in the search bar at the bottom left corner of your desktop, and open the printers and scanners window. Then tick the box to let Windows find the printer. It will load drivers, etc. Then print out a test page. Setup complete. ... show more

    • Won’t connect to devices without A LOT of troubleshooting and work

It’s been 15 years of hard fought battles getting my old canon printer to connect to devices and use. Almost every time I have to print something (once a year) there is a new problem that takes hours and hours to solve. I finally gave up on my old canon printer and bought this new one thinking after 15 years they might finally be able to make a printer that connects to a device and prints a page without the stress and hours of wasted time. I was wrong. Here I am again fighting and stressing to get this printer to connect to something. Canon has some serious serious issues with technology and making printers that connect to devices. If you buy a canon, be ready for hours of stress and problems everytime you have to set it up with a device, change internet providers, anything slight change at all and they stop working. Resulting in hours and hours of gut wrenching problem solving just to make it connect to ANYTHING and print a page. Done with this company for life. ... show more

I rarely need to print anything on paper at home, but like to have something. My ≈20 year old HP printer had died, so I wanted something inexpensive to replace it. I see that some reviewers were annoyed by the fact that this doesn't come with a USB cable. Perhaps earlier versions of the ad did not mention this, but it's in the description now and did not surprise me. My old printer cable worked fine. I no longer have a Windows or Mac computer. This does work with my laptop and desktop, both of which have Ubuntu 20.04. Downloaded the Debian package directly from the Canon web site. Unpacked in the downloads folder, navigated there in a shell, and typed "sudo ./install.sh". Easy peasy. There is a Canon mobile app for android, but unfortunately it's only for their wireless printers, and this one needs a USB connection. I found an app called Nokoprint, which lets me print from my android phone and tablet using the cable, although of course, an additional adapter is required (which I already had). It didn't have a Canon driver, but used a generic driver that works. The only problem is that this app has very aggressive ads, which are particularly annoying on the tablet, to the point where it actually makes it more complicated to print something. Still, I just wanted to have that capability; I'll hardly ever use it with those devices. Someone else may be able to suggest a better app. Anyway, that part is not Canon's fault. This is a good basic printer which is fine for what I need, printing out the occasional document or picture on letter sized paper. It is supposed to do other sizes as well, but I haven't tried that. This did come with ink cartridges, although I bought spares while I was at it. ... show more
