Description

As part of our new RF-S lens line, the RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM gives you the flexibility you desire without taking up your whole camera bag. This lens was designed with smaller APS-C sensors in mind, and when joined with a full frame EOS R camera, automatically enables the 1.6x crop mode. It offers 100% x 100% Dual Pixel CMOS AF coverage for APS-C sensors, and 80% x 80% Dual Pixel CMOS AF coverage for Full Frame sensors (in crop mode). The small size of the RF-S18-45mm and clever lens retraction mechanism lets it fit just about anywhere, making it a great lens to bring with you on a walk or wherever the day takes you. The lead screw-type stepping motor (STM) helps ensure smooth autofocus and quiet operation, letting you capture videos with great audio and minimal background noise so you won’t distract your subject in a quiet photo environment. Optical Image Stabilization provides up to 4 stops of correction, and up to 6 stops with Coordinated IS. This advanced image stabilization can result in sharper photos with minimal blur, even in low light situations. When you add all of this together, you get a wonderful, lightweight, and versatile lens that is designed to fit into your life.

  • The “I Swear This Is a Real Camera” Lens (Renewed, Like My Credit Score)
This Canon RF-S 18–45mm f/4.5–6.3 (Renewed) is the lens equivalent of a clean white T-shirt: not flashy, not complicated, and suddenly you’re like, “Oh wow, I can actually leave the house like this.” It’s compact, light, and immediately makes an APS-C EOS R body feel like a camera you’ll actually carry instead of a gym membership you keep paying for. The zoom range is 18–45mm, which covers “I’m in a living room” to “I stepped slightly closer.” Canon calls it versatile, and they’re not wrong—it’s just a very reasonable kind of versatile. Wide enough for family stuff, desk setups, casual travel, and the classic “let me show you what I’m talking about” shot. If you’re expecting dramatic compression or wildlife hero shots, this lens will politely blink at you and suggest you buy different dreams. Now let’s address the aperture: f/4.5–6.3. This lens is not here for your moody candlelit b-roll fantasies. In bright light it’s totally fine. Indoors at night, it becomes a gentle lesson in humility. You’ll be like, “Why is my ISO 6400?” and the lens will be like, “Because you chose compact and lightweight, Brad.” The stabilization is legitimately the best part. Up to 4 stops on its own, and up to 6 stops if your EOS R body has IBIS—which is camera-speak for “your shaky hands can keep their job.” I tested it doing the very scientific method of walking around my house filming a plant like it was a documentary subject, and the footage went from “found footage horror” to “mildly competent adult.” If you ever slap this on a full-frame EOS R camera, it auto-crops to APS-C, which is both helpful and hilarious. You spend all this money on full-frame and the lens goes, “Cool. We’ll be using this much of it.” It works, it’s seamless, it’s also like buying a king bed and sleeping diagonally on a twin. “Renewed” scared me at first, but mine arrived clean, snappy, and ready to work. The little human detail: the packaging had that faint “electronics warehouse” smell - like cardboard and destiny - and the zoom ring felt smooth enough that I didn’t immediately suspect it had lived a hard life on someone’s dusty shelf. Pros: - Compact and lightweight = you’ll actually take your camera with you - Useful everyday focal range (18–45mm) for general shooting and video - Image stabilization is genuinely helpful; even better with IBIS bodies - Solid optical ingredients (aspherics + coating) for clean, modern “kit lens done right” results - Great “starter” lens for RF-mount APS-C without committing to heavier glass Cons: - f/4.5–6.3 means low-light is… a character-building experience - On full-frame bodies it crops automatically (fine, but a little emotionally damaging) - Zoom range tops out at 45mm, so don’t expect flattering tight portraits or reach Best for: APS-C EOS R shooters who want a light everyday lens for travel, family, casual video, and “grab it and go” use. Not for: Low-light lovers or anyone trying to shoot creamy-background portraits without upgrading. Summary: A tiny, stabilized, sensible zoom that won’t impress your gear friends... but it will quietly make you take more photos, which is the whole point. ... show more

  • Great product, great price
It does everything it’s supposed at a much better price than anywhere else! I recently got a Canon EOS R10 and this was exactly what I needed for it! It works great with autofocus. The sharpness and clearness of the pictures is beautiful. It’s not to large to easily fit into my camera case. It’s not to heavy to carry around, it’s honestly great. 😊 ... show more

  • Its a kit lens. Nothing special.
Its a kit lens. Nothing special besides the image stabilization(IS), especially if you have one of those Canon models that don't have in body image stabilization(IBIS). Its worth $100, not more. Good for beginners who do not want to spend a lot. Good for travel, landscape, portraits with good lighting and vlog kind of stuff. I ordered renewed. It was new. Auto focus was mid at best and the zoom was loud enough to hear on video. Get a hood and a few good filters and you will have fun with it. Not really for Pros. ... show more

  • An Utter and Complete No Brainer
Got this today. Came in a plain white box encased in bubble wrap and nothing else. The lens looked absolutely brand new. Not a fingerprint or smudge to be seen. I put it on my R7 and walked around town. I came home and transferred the pics to my PC. Wow!!! I'm no pro. I just like taking pictures. After I looked at the images and printed some out, I felt as if I had ripped someone off. It was the best $94 (with tax) I'd ever spent. I wouldn't be surprised if this lens is my "go to" lens. Unless it fails me somehow, it'll be on my camera unless I need a different lens for a specific application. Right now, I'm really impressed!!! ... show more
