does not work with verizon messaging. texts can go out but not be received no matter what you do. no CS can figure out why. Update: Turns out somehow the sim card got corrupted and after a couple hours with numerous customer service reps and many resets of multiple systems... they gave me a new sim card and it fixed the problem, so it wasnt the phone. This was a phone i bought just to use something while my $2000 galaxy fold 2 was under warranty repair. My 5 star review is not to say it is as good as a flagship phone, but to say for the price point, you are getting an incredible value and form factor. No, you aren't getting fancy features like multiple incredible cameras with night vision, super fast CPUs, amazing screens, folding screens, wireless charging, USB C fast charging, 5G... BUT, for 5% the cost of my normal phone and 10% of the cost of my galaxy s10 5g (before i bought the original fold), you get a beautiful screen, good daytime camera, great moto gesture features, good finger print unlock, and very light phone with solid battery life. Makes it very hard to justify ever getting a $400-800 phone.

The Moto E is a great entry-level phone for someone who wants solid performance but doesn't really use the phone for things other than talking, texting, and surfing the web. It does take decent photos, but nothing that is considered amazing. It has decent speakers, but again nothing spectacular. I use it as a backup for my other phone! Pros: -Snapdragon 632 (GeekBench 5 Score 232/840) The octa-core processor is very responsive for most apps but I wouldn't buy the phone for high-level gaming. This is paired with 2 GB Ram. -Sturdy frame and lightweight -Excellent battery life -Very responsive fingerprint reader -Charges pretty quick but not with Moto's turbocharge -The screen is decent but not as good as the higher up levels of Moto's lineup. My Moto G Stylus has a better resolution and is brighter. -Quality speakers for an entry-level phone. They are not stereo, but they are not bad either. Cons: -The camera is kind of crappy, but not horrible. I would not buy the phone for taking quality pictures but it does offer slow-motion. -The screens brightness is kind of subpar compared to other phones like Samsungs's entry-level AMOLED -The storage capacity is 32 GB which is plenty for some people but can be upgraded with a SanDisk Overall, for the price, it really is a great phone if you just need a phone that functions smoothly! Personally I wasn't ready to buy a new smart phone. My 2016 Samsung J series phone as far as I was concerned continued to meet my needs as my basic everyday cell phone. However, my cell phone provider informed me that my older 3G version CDMA phone was no longer to be supported by T-Mobile/Sprint and I was left with no choice but to find a replacement. I use Tello which is an MVNO cell phone service . I pay around 12.00 a month for unlimited call/text service and 1 GB's of fast data. The rest of the data I get free via WIFI or Hotspots. Consequently, paying much more than $100.00 for an unlocked phone seemed out of the question for me. I'm so grateful that I selected this Moto E (2020) phone and I think you will too. This budget phone came the closest to meeting all of the objectives I laid out and still kept me within my overall $100 price range. Maybe off by just a little bit... LOL. As you will soon see I'm a researcher by profession. It literally took months for me to evaluate budget cell phones as I didn't want to switch my cell phone provider. However, If I did switch providers the Moto E (2020) gave me the most choices in choosing a new phone service versus any other budget phone sold out there in the market.. Basically I needed a phone that was VoLTE friendly and this phone is DUAL VoLTE friendly. I needed a phone that supported bands 66 and 71. Only this budget phone met that category in (GSM) and yet offered full (CDMA) compatibility as well. Budget phones for Samsung, One Plus, TCL , LG, Nokia, BLU, Oukitel etc... all of them failed miserably at the $100 price range let alone not offering the same number of frequency bands as the Moto E. Why then only 4 stars ? Sadly, this Moto E phone has an antiquated slow charging Micro USB adapter. ( SEE PIC ) This phone uses an LCD screen and the resolution display is adequate but not exceptional. Any senior whose used to pressing front and back arrows instead of swiping to change pages will find that difference annoying . Overall, it just takes some time getting used to it. However, on the positive side the phone is BIG. The screen is Easy to Read. It has a modern slim bezel more like an expensive upper scale smart phone. (SEE PIC) Although the phone is big , it's still easy to hold in your hand. I'd strongly recommend though getting a phone case because of all the plastic components comprised in it. (SEE PIC ) Most importantly, and I can't stress this enough is that the Moto E meets ALL the band requirements for GSM and CDMA compatibility when choosing most phone carriers. This includes all the Major Carriers - EXCEPT IN RARE INSTANCES MAYBE VERIZON AND THE MVNO's LINKED TO THEM. For instance, the Verizon website by entering the IMEI/MEID # cites compatibility by saying " it looks like your device the MOTO E Unlocked XT2052-1 is compatible." However, it also states in smaller print "some devices may not support all features and services." The Motorola corporate website confirms the Moto E (2020) is compatibility using Verizon including their MVNO's. My research has uncovered that the Moto E phone also does work with most low cost MVNO's including many cheaper upstarts out there like Red Pocket using only (GSM). Many of you out there I see like Cricket Wireless through AT&T. I put my IMEI # in with their checker tool and it came back with a Yes. Unfortunately Cricket thinks this device is a GIN Lite phone. Whatever that means? The Motorola corporate website states US Cellular which uses a CDMA network won't work but yet the US Cellular compatibility tool asking only for my IMEI # says YES. A similar scenario applies to BOOST Mobile. The Motorola site says NO but when I enter the requested IMEI # in the Boost checker tool it says YES. I agree very confusing. I did figure out that the " Pre Paid" plans are the only ones that seem to be the most restrictive when using the Moto E unlocked. This is likely the case for Boost which offers many Pre paid plan services. Such plans do differ from a "Pay as you Go" plan or an "MVNO." They also seem to be the plans with no phone compatibility checker to confirm BYOP. Most negative reviews you'll see here online center around services with these Prepaid plans. Lastly, make sure that any phone service you're considering supports a Nano SIM card for your phone to operate. Just know that If you're using an older cell phone with a Micro SIM card it will not fit. However, this alone shouldn't be a problem. Most carriers provide a free SIM card or a new one at a very nominal cost. My phone didn't come with a SIM tool so I easily used a paper clip to open the SIM door on the phone to enter mine. I know I threw a lot of information out there to digest in only a single review. However, I believe knowledge is the key in selecting the right phone and carrier service. I hate it when I make a wrong decision due to lack of information. I encourage all Seniors out there to ditch your flip phones and get yourself the Moto E (2020). It's overall user friendly especially with Google Assistant. It's 100 % compatible with MOST EVERY cell phone service carrier out there in the US. Soooo..... I guess if I go on any further I'm just beating a dead horse here... huh? LOL How can a Senior on a fixed budget go wrong with this purchase. It's top rated by PC Magazine and Digital Trends. Check out their great reviews online. Heck, even a tightwad and proud of it, like consumer warrior Clark Howard loves Motorola phones. What's that I hear ? Yes of course, AARP members can also take this phone to Consumer Cellular with no problem. That's about it friends. I hope everyone enjoys their new phone. No matter which one you choose to buy :)

This is only our second smartphone, previously had a LG for several years. This Moto e phone, so far so good. Does what it needs to do, call, text, go on the internet. Don't do social media or like watch movies on the phone, but for the internet searching and surfing, it seems to be great. Also use this to listen to podcast and musics which is good, this phone seems to be faster and the battery lasts longer than previous smartphone. Have a few apps downloaded, nothing probably compared to most people but seems to work good and enough storage for our uses. I like the size, the fingerprint recognition works really good no issues, the touch screen is responsive no issues, and I like the blue color.

I purchased the Moto E (2020) during the holidays when Tracfone had a $100 rebate for activating an unlocked phone with them. The phone ended up costing about $30 after the rebate which is an outstanding value. It was purchased for my kids to use as an emergency phone, since I already use a Galaxy Note 10+ as my daily. I can verify that the Moto E is unlocked and works with US networks, as I’ve alternated between a T-Mobile and Tracfone (Verizon) SIM with no issues. In the settings, the phone lists "XT2052-1" as the model#. Here’s a list of Pros and Cons after having used it for about a month. Pros: - Runs smoothly. Having only 2GB of RAM, I’ve found it still runs smoothly doing routine things with multiple apps opened (e.g. make calls, texting, surf internet, watch Youtube, view social media). - No bloatware. Aside from 2 or 3 Motorola apps, this is essentially a stock Android phone (running Android 10 as of this review). It uses Google Photos, Gmail, Google Messages, Google Calendar and other Google apps as defaults. There are no duplicate or redundant apps like you find in a Samsung phone. - I’ve found it to have good battery life with the 3550mAh battery, but YMMV base on use. - MicroSD expansion. SD card can be formatted as Internal or External Storage. I’m using a 128GB SD card and defaulted the camera app to store all photos/videos to the card. - Fast Fingerprint reader on rear. - Fully unlocked. Tested with T-Mobile and Tracfone SIM (Verizon version). - Medium sized phone with good sized screen. Larger than an iPhone SE (2020), but smaller than a Galaxy Note 10+. Most people can’t tell it’s only a 720p screen. - Excellent Photo/Video quality in good lighting. Cons: - 32bit Operating System (OS). Some apps and games require a 64bit OS and will not work on this phone (e.g. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp). Not all apps can be moved to SD if you’ve formatted it as External storage. - 32GB internal storage. 13GB of the 32GB is taken up by System files, so there’s really only 19GB of internal storage. - Camera can be frustratingly slow in low-light conditions. Sometimes, a couple seconds will pass after pressing the shutter button before the camera captures the image. Again, this mainly occurs in low-light. - Micro USB charging port. Really wish this was USB C instead. - Phone always displays “Charging Rapidly” when charging, but it’s not a true “Fast Charge” like Samsung or OnePlus phones. This displays regardless of the port or wattage being used. - No wireless charging, but not expected at this price point. Overall, this is an excellent phone for the price, even better if you’re able to get it for less than $50.

I have a phone plan thought Verizon. I bought this phone and transfered everything over to it myself. I did all the set up procedures. Everything worked fine except I was not able to receive text messages. I could call and receive calls and send out text messages, but texts would not come back. When I put my sim card back into my old phone, all the incoming texts would pile into there. I called Verizon tech support and they were able to help me get it working. They said there was something they had to adjust on their end and when they did I started receiving texts. Another thing I was bummed to find out about this phone is that the charger port is the older android style usb micro B that only goes one way. Even my older phone had the usb C style charging port that didn't have an up and down and was easier to plug in.

This is perhaps my 10th cell phone, and 2nd Motorola, and it is far and away the worst phone I've ever used. I bought this one because I was very happy with my previous Motorola, a G6 if I recall correctly. I bought it thinking this one would work similarly to that one, and function as well. WRONG on both counts. It seems they designed this phone to be as far opposite as the previous one as possible. Every single thing about this phone is hard to use. It is hard to open when it is at rest, the touch screen is very non responsive, instead of having a back button like every other phone I've ever used this one requires you to swipe left to go back, which depending what you're doing can cause you to leave a website, chat discussion, etc. Instead of having a home screen button, you swipe up from the bottom, which is also a pain. Everything about this phone is difficult to use, it is constantly doing things on it's own that I have no desire for it to do, which is both annoying and often embarrassing, as when it changes words in my text after I've press the send button. I usually use my phones until they quit working, before I replace them, this piece of garbage will be replaced much sooner than that. And as icing on the cake, the camera is of pretty poor quality. It has all sorts of options that interrupt you when you're trying to take a picture, and once you finally close them out so you can take the picture, it is a poor quality picture more often than not. Avoid avoid avoid....

Honestly, this would have been an $800 phone 4 years ago. Glass front and back, surprisingly decent cameras and a nice feel. It's a good phone IF you have never had a "premium" android phone. Then, like me, you notice the shortcomings and probably can't get over them. The screen is bright enough to be usable, but if your used to 900nits or higher it's not the same. The speaker is nice, but if you're used to dual dolby tuned stereo speakers, it's not the same. The software IS awesome and features of Google's dialer (like live screening) work beautifully. The fingerprint reader (coming from an s10+ with in display reader) is AMAZING; super responsive. Lack of nfc is completely excusable at this price. NO FACE UNLOCK OPTION. The deal breaker for me (and why I returned it) was sluggish responses. Again, probably not noticable if you're not used to $1300+ devices, but if you are, don't experiment like i did. If you need an inexpensive burner phone that seriously performs way better than what you would expect from a sub $150 device (or need a gift for the parents...) This is a no brainier.
