Canon’s first use of a PMo aspheric lens in an F1.2 design helps minimize aberrations for sharper, more accurate images. Combined with the RF mount’s large diameter and short back focus, this allows for a compact build without sacrificing optical performance. The RF45mm F1.2 STM uses a gear-type STM motor paired with a magnetic detection system for smooth, precise autofocus. This keeps the lens compact and lightweight while ensuring your subject stays sharp, even in challenging lighting or fast-paced shooting. The 45mm focal length is like seeing how you see with the naked eye, giving you a natural perspective and framing that feels just right. A dedicated customizable control ring on the front of the lens lets you assign functions like ISO, White balance, etc. for quick adjustments during shooting. One end has an elastic band which attaches securely around the lens barrel, and the other end fastens to the lens cap via the adhesive-backed disc. Is this lens compatible with my camera? This lens is a Canon RF mount lens. The lens is only compatible with Canon EOS R series cameras like the R100, R50, R10, R7, R8, R6 and R5. This lens does not work on Canon DSLR cameras with the EF mount or EF-S or EF-M Mount. Does this lens have image stabilization? The Canon RF45mm F1.2 STM Lens does NOT have image stabilization Does this lens come with a lens hood? Canon does not provide a lens hood with this lens. You can puchase one separately. Fast, inexpensive "normal" lens for Canon R cameras, with a few quirks

I really enjoy this lens. It has a "normal" perspective, not telephoto or wide. At f/ 1.2 it's really fast (as in "it gathers a lot of light"), and you can blow out the foreground & background by using a shallow depth of field. BUT be aware, it is not a perfect lens. It is not a Canon L lens, so this lens does not have the highest optical quality that Canon can produce with their most expensive lenses. Nor does it have all of the same weather & dust sealing as a Canon L lens. Cheaply, Canon does not provide a hood with this lens either, so you will have to buy one separately if you want one (Amazon sells Canon and non-Canon hoods for this lens). The biggest "quirk" is its optical imperfections. The lens has some coma distortion at the edges of the frame, which can make points of light appear stretched out or a little "smeared." Also, it has a good amount of purple or green "fringing" on highlights. That means a bright highlight or reflection might show purple or green color that it doesn't really have. There is vignetting as well. If you use a post-processing program such as Lightroom, that has lens profiles built in, you can minimize all of those issues. Also many of the issues are reduced if you shoot at 2.8 or a smaller aperture. For most people who shoot photos of people, though, this is a great lens. A lot of fun with a lot of character. Don't tell Canon, but they could charge more for this lens. ... show more

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS LENS - OMG!!!! This is a truly AMAZING lens for the price. I viewed almost everything I could find on this lens on YT before buying it and I have absolutely NO REGRETS. The price, the compact size, the ease of use and that wide aperture will get your attention but it’s the IMAGE QUALITY that will make you smile. It’s very sharp, light weight and a joy to use. I have many L-lenses but this little gem has been great for casual days at the park and taking to festivals. It is very sharp and clear and the color rendering is on point. Although it’s an STM lens it’s pretty quiet and doesn’t hunt for focus. Just be sure you buddy this lens with a camera body that has IMAGE STABILIZATION. I use it on my R6. I was surprised when I started processing my photos that these were very good SOOC needing very little editing. If you shoot wide open don’t expect the bokeh to be of L-lens quality but it is still very nice. If you’re on the fence , JUMP! I’m telling you it’s the best budget lens I’ve purchased since my EF nifty fifty (back in the days)😂 ... show more

Most cost effective F1.2 Canon lens

Solid camera lense, it has its limitations when it comes to background blur. Yet, cant get a better canon lense F 1.2 for the money. The weight is minimal for a F1.2. The material is plastic feel, but this where they saved money. It does have delay for autofocusing.

I don't consider this a cheap or mid-range lens. $500 dollars is not cheap and there's nothing mid-range about it. Yes, the VCMs are lightning fast and stealthy, but this is plenty fast and quiet enough, and the photos just as good as far as I'm concern. I had the 50mm 1.2L and I got rid of it due to weight, slow focus, and noise for a $2,300 lens. Fringing, bokeh not buttery smooth. Whatever. I actually like this len's bokeh. This lens is better on newer bodies like the R1, R3, R5 Mark III, and R6 Mark III. ... show more

If you care about your photos, I wouldn’t buy this lens

If I could give it negative stars, I would. If you’re a professional photographer, I would give my highest recommendation AGAINST this lens. The vignetting and chromatic aberration are BEYOND HORRIBLE. Literally the absolute WORST. All of my images from my recent wedding shooting with this lens are ruined. I’m not surprised canon would make something so poor since they don’t stand behind any of their products. I thought I’d spend the less than $600 on this lens since they want $800 To fix a $3,000 lens (the 28-70) that I didn’t even damage but has stopped zooming since I worked a wedding on the hottest day of the year, but this was definitely a wasted $600. This lens is even worst vignetting and chromatic aberration than the 50 1.8. Absolute trash. Offensive that they’d sell this to professional photographers. There should really be a warning on this lens about the vignetting and chromatic aberration. ... show more
