Description

Made specifically for golf enthusiasts who love to play and help improve their game, the PowerShot Golf lets you accurately calculate the distance from your location to the flag. It’s super compact and lightweight but does not lack in the number of features available. It’s a digital laser rangefinder with optical image stabilization built-in which means you can target the flag easily with a very high accuracy rate. • Issue When SD Card Inserted
The rangefinder is is accurate and featured rich. To optimize the device make sure to format your micro SD. Maybe a half star deduction for no magnetic or custom case! I have not been able to find a magnetic case to fit it.

  • Excellent rangefinder for golf, hunting or perhaps photography
The media could not be loaded. This review is for the Canon PowerShot Golf Digital Laser Rangefinder. The rangefinder has a measurement range of 7 - 800 yards with an accuracy of +/- 2 yards. It has a default 6x zoom with a digital zoom of 12x. It's capable of taking still photos at 3840 x 2880 and videos at 1080p / 30 fps. In the box comes the range finder, case, and instructions. My initial impressions of the PowerShot are that I'm extremely impressed. Image stabilization and autofocus in a range finder is a game changer for me. I have shaky hands and trying to focus and keep my hands steady are always a challenge for me with my other range finders, especially for longer yardages. With the PowerShot, it's so smooth and steady and so easy to get a yardage and/or take a picture/video. Here are the features: -Slope adjustment (turns on/off via menu) -Digital menu for settings -Set to yards or meters -Set vibration to on/off -Set to range+photo or range only -Set exposure level -Set continuous AF on/off -Set FPS to 30 or 24 -Play feature to view photos/videos -Erase Image and Format SD card -Video setting for NTSC and PAL -Language setting -Power saving settings -Firmware updates via SD card etc... I've been testing (at home, not at the course yet) this range finder quite a bit over the last several days, taking photos and videos, comparing yardages of against my other 2 range finders. The yardages all compare perfectly to one another, but that's to be expected because they are all good quality range finders. The picture and video quality on the Canon are very good. This device seems more like it was designed for someone that hunts or bird watches due to the video and photo capability. In fact, you can turn off the laser via the side switch and just use it for photo and video without yardage numbers showing on screen. That leads me into the one thing I think could have made this device even better, and that's to have a non-zoom mode. If you're standing on a tee box and want to get a picture (or video) of your playing partners, you'll be at least 6x zoomed so that's a bit tricky. It's something for Canon to consider if they follow this up with another model down the road. This rangefinder has already won me over because of the image stabilization and autofocus. Having photo and video options are a bonus. I've uploaded some pictures and a video from the Canon rangefinder from various yardages away. The video is at the default zoom (6x). I've also provided a side by side comparison with the two other rangefinders I have to give a size comparison. The Voice Caddie Laser FIT is my recent addition other than the Canon, and that thing is very small. It's so convenient to carry around and put in your pocket. The Canon is nearly the same size and I'm surprised (in a good way) by that. The TH Golf rangefinder is more of the traditional size. I could honestly write another 1000 words on how impressed I am with this rangefinder. I absolutely love it and it will be my prime rangefinder in the bag now. I expect the flag lock feature and slope calculation to be spot on. However, if that's not the case I'll update the review at a later time. The price is spot on and the performance is fantastic. I 100% recommend it. 5/5 stars. ... show more

  • Clear and Stable, Huge Upgrade Over Standard Rangefinder
I’ll be honest, I ordered this because I was intrigued it was a Canon and figured it was high quality and maybe a slight upgrade over a standard rangefinder. Let me say upfront, this blows away any standard rangefinder in clarity, stability, and ease of use. I’ve used it one day and I’m making plans to get rid of my other rangefinders. I won’t be using those again. I’m an avid golfer and had no idea this kind of technology existed. It’s like an Atari vs. a PS5. I’ve been playing with this thing for hours and my wife thinks I’m crazy. Pros: 1) easy to set up—it has a digital menu just like a digital SLR camera 2) locks on targets easily; not a new feature but it does vibrate when a target is acquired 3) small size, has a little weight to it, but compact and easy to handle 4) CLARITY—the photo difference between this and standard rangefinder is night and day. The comparison pic I uploaded is just an iPhone through the viewfinder of each and doesn’t do justice to the clarity of the Canon. 5) Fast—press the button and it is ready 6) Autofocus adjusts when you move around the sight picture 7) Actual yardages are spot on. Slope yardages were pretty close to my trusty, standard rangefinder that I’ve used a couple years, so those seem fairly accurate. 8) Stable—super easy to acquire desired target and not have the image bouncing around. The tech really stabilizes the image and makes it super easy to use. 9) Zoom—the 6x zoom is perfectly adequate for up to a couple hundred yards for golf. The 12x zoom is still pretty clear and easy to activate by button. 10) Camera feature is an added bonus—I will probably use this to get some action shots of my kids’ sports (football, soccer, etc.). Much easier than lugging around a DSLR and longer lens. Cons: 1) no magnet for the case or rangefinder! Most rangefinders now are magnetic and it is so convenient to stick to the cart and go. I have a separate rangefinder strap that will work fine, but surely this feature could be easily added at this price point. Really solid overall and I am just amazed at the tech upgrade over a standard rangefinder. Worth every penny considering the cost of standard rangefinders and how they compare in tech. ... show more
