  • Usage of ink
Style: G3200- Print, Copy, Scan
It is an excellent printer. Works great. Is fast enough to print. What I didn't like is it has no ports or slots for any cards. It has one port to hook a computer to. I thought it would be fancier.

  • junk printer
Style: G3200- Print, Copy, Scan
While this Canon printer is difficult and non-intuitive to set up with no LCD screen, as a former programmer, I can figure anything out if it eventually 'works' but this was silly to get working. You have to scour over numerous Canon old help pages (current ones for this printer were unable to connect following exact directions) and decipher the various morse-code blue blinking lights on the printer to finally figure out how to set it up and then pair with your laptop. The manual and instructions don't jibe with real life, as if those who designed it were asleep (or something else) and this thing didn't connect wirelessly, you have to plug in a USB cable to finally get it to tether so it will finally recognize your wifi. Then finally after getting mine set up, it caused numerous clogs and wasted ink from weekly heavy cleanings. Why? because the pathetic printer design causes the ink to backflow back into the tanks when not in use, causing the print-heads to dry out and require ink-wasting flushing (likely to Canon a "design feature"). Even printing a test page every day did not prevent gravity from proving the product design to be a failure (for the customer). In my opinion, they did this on purpose hoping the customer would get so frustrated they'd buy another more expensive printer...well they were correct if that was their design process...I went back to Epson. Although this thing was a good scanner and gave me no issues there (I made more scans than prints in the ~one year I had it, the last straw was the printer just broke on it's own and jammed, no force used, I just simply put paper in and it jammed the paper every time a print job was sent, I assume a piece of plastic broke off and jammed it, but had no more patience with this thing...into the trash bin. Even in 1998 this printer's software would have been outdated (I used to code web pages and this now in 2022/23 ancient technology is nearly the same as then)..no clue as to why such a major printing company would still sell this low-class level of pure junk to the public at almost $300 with the otherwise smart claim to "save money on ink". DO NOT BUY! (got Epson 2850 also 'ecotank' today, we'll see..so far so good with nice prints, although adjustments will be required..I print my 'good' photo work on Epson 3880 and P800 and this seems to be good proofing printer on photo paper) ... show more

  • 5 Years As a Great Printer
Style: G3200- Print, Copy, Scan
I've worked this printer hard for the last 5 years. Initially found it very easy to set up as wireless. It prints very well and has made some very nice photos. Now, it's starting to give me some trouble. It probably will need some repair. Repair these days when out of warantee is expensive. So I'm just just going to buy a new one from Amazon. I highly recommend this printer, especially at this price. ... show more

  • Once set up, it's a capable, cost-effective printer
Style: G3200- Print, Copy, Scan
We had an Epson Workforce 545 printer for several years. It constantly needed the heads cleaning to get half decent prints and we used more ink cleaning than printing. Very expensive ink and not that good a print quality either. Looked around for ink tank printers and there's always issues with printers in the reviews. How to choose !? The price for the G3200 was very attractive compared with the Epson's and it had every function we needed and no more. It made sense that even if we had problems, either it could be returned free to Amazon quickly, or later it would be a Canon warranty replacement or after the one year warranty, a bricked printer would still be more cost effective than what we had. Based on some reviews, we may never have to buy more ink before it craps out on us! :) It was easy to set up and fill with ink, easy that is until we got to the WiFi connection. We followed the instructions, but have a fiber internet router with no WPS Push Button. With no printer interface, how do you get it to know the WiFi password? After about an hour of playing around to no avail, I tried using the "USB connection method". Initially, we thought this was the hard wired connection, which we did not want to do. However, this one turned out to be just for teaching the printer about the internet connection and router via the PC and once done, the cable can be removed and WiFi works just fine. The installation instructions are very poor for that part of the set up, yet it was easy once we figured it out!! The prints for documents are pretty good quality and the print speed is quite acceptable. I have noticed though that the Georgia Pacific Standard Multipurpose printer paper we have (20lbs weight/92 Bright) does seem to show signs of a lot of wetness / ink. The backside of the paper, while not bleeding ink through, has noticeable marking where the ink is deposited, especially so with photos, and they feel 'damp' when deposited out of the printer. Photo quality seems to depend on the software used to print from, but generally, I'd say the colors are washed out and dull. I've found you can play around with the color settings and the type of document just before printing and get some improvement, but the reproduction of photos is not what I was hoping for. I've not tried printing on photo paper yet though. However, it's a lot better than the old Epson! The scanner works well. I prefer to set the dpi's to my preference and that can be done easily. I've tried the Canon Print app on my phone and while it works, it is really designed to just print out a photo. Not many settings can be made. We won't be using that function at all. That's what the PC is for! I like the paper feed being from the rear. The Epson had a front-loaded paper tray that was finicky to slide in and out and you couldn't see how much paper was left. The footprint of the G3200 is smaller at an overall height of about 10.5 inches with the paper feeder up, 6.5" folded down, (the paper extends up another inch or so when loaded into the feeder) and about 17 inches wide and 15.5" from the front to the back of the paper feeder when in the 'up' position. I've printed quite a few test prints of photos (on plain paper), some documents and a sheet of Avery address labels. The ink levels haven't gone down much at all from the level after initial set up. You will see a lot of ink disappear at set up as the system gets filled up with ink. The smaller color tanks, compared with the larger black tank, drop by about 3/16" of an inch out of the total of 1 3/4" between the Max and Min lines. The black level hardly moves. The yellow seems to have dropped the most. I am leaving the printer on all the time. Each time it is turned on, the printer does a cleaning cycle. While the ink is cheap, I'm more concerned about the ink absorber pads getting saturated. Hopefully, with leaving it on, the automatic cleaning cycles will be less frequent and the dreaded bricking 5b00 error code is kept farther into the future. The instructions do say to print at least once a month to avoid problems. My old Epson wouldn't make it 3 days! So far, the G3200 is working to our satisfaction. I'll post some updates when I get around to printing on photo paper or if the printer breaks down, but so far, so good. UPDATE: I bought some 5 x 7 glossy photo paper and printed out a couple photos. They actually came out good without needing any adjustments, other than setting up for that paper type and choosing the High Quality setting. Not disappointed yet! UPDATE II: Printed out a bunch of photos that my daughter took and wanted to make a collage. I did some cropping, color saturation and sharpness changes and the photos came out great. I can see almost no change in the ink levels after printing maybe fifteen 5 x 7 photos. Way different from my old cartridged Epson! I've also kept the printer on 24/7 and while I'm not 100% certain how often it does a cleaning, it doesn't seem to take at all long to start printing even after a few days idle. So far, very pleased with it UPDATE III: After a couple months, I noticed the printer, despite being left ON, would "disconnect" from my PC giving me a warning message that it was "offline" when I went to print. It had to be turned on, then off and it would reconnect. I haven't found out why it started doing this and haven't found a solution either. So, I now turn it off and accept that every time I turn it on, it'll use ink to initiate itself. UPDATE IV: I printed out a color document and it had zero black ink. I printed a test page and there was no black either. I had to run a deep clean twice and eventually, the black ink started flowing again and it printed perfectly. As a result I've regraded the rating to 4 stars for the issue. Despite that, I still have only used about 1/8" of black ink in the reservoir and about 1/4" to 3/8" of the other colors. This printer really is economical with ink compared with traditional cartridge ink printers. ... show more

  • Easy setup, quality printing!
Style: G3200- Print, Copy, Scan
I'm confused by the reviews I read before I bought it. It was so simple to setup. I downloaded the setup file and a few clicks later I had two laptops printing wirelessly. Super easy. What I love though is the quality printing and how cheap the ink is. I can literally print thousands of color pages for twenty bucks, which I need because I'm a science teacher and the school doesn't have color printers. But this machine! It's awesome! ... show more
