Beautiful set of knives. Solid craftsmanship with a robust variety that makes it truly useful. I substracted one star because of the chef's knife. It's a bit too heavy and the taper is a little too wide. It doesn't cut as smoothly as it should. Has too much of a wedge. Would prefer the santoku to have a slight curve, but that's a personal preference. The one that comes with this set is really straight. (This is in comparison to an older J.A. Henckels set and a newer Nanfang Brothers sets.) I'll add pictures. The other knives in this set are very nice. This set is worth the price. ... show more

These knives have impressed me. I ordered them because of the white color, but I am finding so many more reasons to like them. There was a booklet included with the set that mentions the founder of French Laundry (a very ritzy 5 star Restaurant in SF) coordinating with Cangsan to create these knives. That’s cool. I’ve never been to his restaurant but my husband has. It’s nice! The wood block is a nice dark wood. The plastic handles aren’t shiny, which I was worried about. They are a nice matte white. The symbol on the knives isn’t obtrusive either. It’s smaller in person. The feeling on the handle of the scissors is slightly different from the knives. A little more textured. I don’t prefer that, but it is a pretty close match. The bread knife and carving knife won’t get as much use, but for a specialty look with the white, I’m glad I have them, as I don’t think I could easily find them later to order. And I will eventually need them. The set on my counter pops. I am really happy I found them. I will try to update at some point in the future to say how they’ve performed over time. ... show more

I have a very nice small knife set that is almost as old as I am. I wanted to get a new set and give my old one to my granddaughter, who is starting to be very interested in cooking. I saw this set, which had everything I wanted, and ordered. I love that it comes with a lovely wooden holder for ALL of the items, including the kitchen scissors. It is sooo convenient to have everything available instantly. The knives are incredibly sharp. They are very comfortable to hold and use, and believe me, I have used knives that were not and it was not a pleasant experience. Believe it or not, I did not have a set of steak knives, which are included with this set (6), and that is wonderful! Hubby had been using a little paring knife, and the steak knives are much better! This set has everything, including a wonderful chef's knife, which is traditionally the knife I use for most things. Then handles fit tightly to the blades, with no area available for soil; they are very easy to clean and dry. They are high on the hardness scale, and should be easy to sharpen when it is required; the edge angle is provided, as is a steel. I am completely delighted with this set, and my granddaughter is delighted with my old one! This set would be an asset to any kitchen, and would make a fabulous gift. ... show more
