A clever idea for a camping light. It combines the features of a lantern with a 32-foot string of camping lights. With the light string wound up inside the base, it's a lantern. With the light string extended it's a string of camping lights. And being able to wind the lights back up inside the base is very convenient. There's a lanyard so you can hang it on a branch or a tent pole. It's battery operated so you don't need to start your sting of lights at an electrical outlet. The batteries are recharged with a Type C USB cord. There's also a USB outlet that can be used to recharge a cell phone. There is a red light that flashes when the battery is getting low. The lights feature several different functions that are controlled with the power button. There is no remote. You can choose color modes of Red/Green/Blue or Warm Orange. The lights can flash, fade in and out, and other cool stuff. There is a light on the side of the base that functions as a flashlight. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to turn the flashlight on. You have to first power on the light and then double-click the power button to turn on the flashlight. It won't turn on if you double-click the power button when the light is off. The one issue I have with the light is the apparent confusion over whether it's waterproof or not. In the list of features on Amazon, it states that the light is "not water resistant." Then, further on in the product description, it states that the light string and the base are waterproof. But again, in the directions that come with the light, it states that the light should not be exposed to rain. It's not clear whether that means just the base or the base and the light string but having a string of camping lights that can't get rained on would be problematic. I haven't used the lights outside yet but I intend to use them when camping, beginning in May. They will undoubtedly be exposed to rain so if they fail I will update this review. With that issue aside, it's a clever and convenient combination of a camping lantern and light string. If it holds up in the rain I'm going to enjoy using it. ... show more

This is convenient. Most of the ones I saw last year you had to manually wrap and they became a hassle. This isn't horrible in weight if you're hiking and camping. This would be great for back yard events, drive up camping or short distance camping. They're bright enough and help mark your area. They wrap up nicely without issue which is the biggest draw for me. I could break down my entire camp site, but the lights, if I bothered to hang them, took the longest to take down, wrap properly to tuck away.
