I have been using my best friends "marriage gift" set of knives (they are divorced now) and they would irritate me because they were horrible. So I went to Ross and bought this for $40. Best $40 I ever spent. But it was literally a one in a million find, because I never saw them again... they disappeared like Keyser Soze (The Usual Suspect reference). An opportunity came up to purchase a knife set, as a gift and I paid full price on Amazon. It is expensive, but TOTALLY worth it. My sister was grateful, thankful and can't stop raving about her knives. All the knives are sharp, cut quick and require little effort. Only effort to be mindful of not cutting your fingers lol! So don't mix alcohol and knives. You have to clean these by hand, NO DISHWASHER but it's only a small price to pay for the luxury of a good cut. This is an investment because I KNOW, I will be using these for the next 10 years...or until my girlfriend decides to give it to her child when they move out...then I will be sad, but I will just buy the updated version. ... show more

They are very sharp, and are very comfortable to use. The blades are sturdy. I wash immediately after use. So no dishwasher used. Steak knives are starting to rust, so I am pretty disappointed with those. The knife block is very nice. I highly recommend the knives, with the exception of the steak knives due to rust. Highly recommend this set. Knives are excellent quality and full tang. Very sharp and holds the edge beautifully. Handles are comfortable and perfectly balanced. This set should last the rest of my life!

This knife set looks sleek and the block keeps the utility knives sharp. My only complaint is that the holes for the steak knives and scissors do not have the protective metal border so you have to be very precise putting those knives back so you don’t gouge the wood around the holes.

I've owned different sets of knives and this set is, by far, the best! It stays sharp after multiple uses (thanks to the built-in sharpener), I just live love it. I can chop veggies with precision, let's just say that I no longer cry while cutting onions! Definitely I good investment, if you are on the fence, definitely give this a try ... you won't regret it! I’m diggin’ this set so far. It’s nice to finally have good knives. I have other Calphalon products and love the quality. I’m a firm believer that you get what you pay for. Packaged nicely as you’d expect and the wooden block itself looks nice on the countertop. If you’re waffling on it- go for it!
