Overall....HANDS DOWN THE BEST KNIFE SET I have ever owned!!!! or you will ever own!! I have been using my best friends "marriage gift" set of knives (they are divorced now) and they would irritate me because they were horrible. So I went to Ross and bought this for $40. Best $40 I ever spent. But it was literally a one in a million find, because I never saw them again... they disappeared like Keyser Soze (The Usual Suspect reference). An opportunity came up to purchase a knife set, as a gift and I paid full price on Amazon. It is expensive, but TOTALLY worth it. My sister was grateful, thankful and can't stop raving about her knives. All the knives are sharp, cut quick and require little effort. Only effort to be mindful of not cutting your fingers lol! So don't mix alcohol and knives. You have to clean these by hand, NO DISHWASHER but it's only a small price to pay for the luxury of a good cut. This is an investment because I KNOW, I will be using these for the next 10 years...or until my girlfriend decides to give it to her child when they move out...then I will be sad, but I will just buy the updated version.

I purchased this set to replace another set (different brand) that I recently purchased but was unsatisfied with. This is a beautiful set. The blades are thick, wide, and heavy. I am impressed with how sharp the knives were and appreciate the ceramic sharpening slots in the block - although I'm not really sure how useful they actually are but I supposed we'll see over time. I like that the types of knives are noted on the tips of the handles - saves me time hunting for the knife I need. The knives have a full tang blade and a handle which feels very comfortable in my hand. The handles are smooth wood which is much more pleasant than the plastic handles I've found on other knife sets. It is made in China, from German forged steel, not stainless. I'll have to take their word that its German steel. The sheers are a no-name brand but have a bottle opener on them (which I'll probably never use but nice to have in a pinch). I've been saving up and doing my research on knives as I cook from scratch almost daily and having been wanting a good set that would stand the test of time. I'm really hoping my research and patience paid off and these are it. I'll update the review should this change, but I think I'll be very happy with these. UPDATE 12/7/16: Now that I've had a chance to use these a little more, I'm even more in love with them. Last night they passed the tomato test - slicing and dicing Roma tomatoes. I kid you not, it was like slicing through softened butter. The slices were amazingly easy and clean. then thinly sliced a red onion into nearly paper thin slices. Still thrilled with my purchase.

Never put these in the dishwasher unless they were stainless steel. These are not. Probably even have to immediately dry them which isn't very convenient. I wish the quality was better I would have paid more for their alloy steel knives if I would have known. These aren't that nice but the concept is cool and they are sharp, cut myself cleaning one on accident out of the box. They are all made in China, hence the price. At original $199 I would have never bought but at the discounted price they are ok.

These are very nice. The block is attractive, the self-sharpening function is great, and the knives are well balanced and very sharp. They do a great job of cutting things cleanly and easily. The only downside is that they are handwash only, which isn't a deal breaker since I already have them, but maybe would have deterred me from ordering them if I had noticed before ordering.

We got this knife set as a gift for Christmas, and love it! The only thing we are not big on is the steak knives being serrated, but it isn’t a deal breaker. The big knife alone makes this set worth it, it works so well and is always sharp because of the built in sharpener!

These knives are incredibly sharp! They made cutting fun again! In college my roommate owned a set of Shun knives and I learned the value of having quality knives. Unfortunately, Shuns are crazy expensive and I am not interested in investing that much in knives. I previously purchased two set of knives (both Emeril from Groupon) before I came across these. What interested me most about this knife set was the built in sharpener that is in the knife block. I have owned a sharpening stick and I've scratched an old chefs knife on that because I didn't know the proper angle to use. I also had a knife sharper that you hold in the counter and run the knife through, but often times this just stayed in a drawer forgotten. Having the knife sharpener in the block, specifically in the knife slot (not somewhere on the top or side) is very useful to me because the knife is sharpened each time I draw or put away my knives. This keeps they providing the same effortless cutting on day 1, 30, and 100! I primarily use these knives to cut produce, poultry, and fish (pre-packaged fish, not cleaning or filleting fish). I purchased the 12 piece set. The only thing I didn't like about this set was that you open the box and are greeted by an advert suggesting that you purchase the bread knife to complete your set. Overall these knives are fantastic and I'm hoping to get many years of use from them.

Knives are sharp and have a sharpener. The steak knives handles are very slender and hard to use for those with dexterity issues or have a bigger grip. Most of the knives are lightweight.
