  • MISSING A PIECE
This espresso machine arrived missing the portafilter. Once I got that resolved, I love it! It's easy to use, so long as you actually read the directions. It took a while to heat up the first time, but only a minute the second time.

  • New espresso addict
True story. I don't like coffee. I got this for my husband, and my college age daughters. The selling point for me is the compact size. So my husband and I took a look at this machine and made the first espressos out of it. It seemed fairly simple. Everything you need in order to make espresso is included except the coffee. I tried the espresso, because I had to. Turns out, I really like espresso! I still don't like coffee though. The milk steamer works pretty well, except that if you don't rinse it off right away it gets sort of caked with dried milk, and that thing is hot. I put some water and a drop of dishwashing soap and used the steamer to clean that wand, and that works. However since I am such a noob to espresso I have been simply microwaving my milk in the cup before making my espresso, it's all the same to me at this point and it saves me the extra cleaning. Not sure if this is typical but the cord for the machine is short, only about 24". I am also short, so I have to position this on the counter in a way that I can put the portafilter in without too much trouble as it takes a bit of effort to do. I have it plugged in where I have the only outlet on that end of my island counter. The water tank can hold a lot of water, which is weird because you don't need very much water to make a few espressos. I can't keep the water tank in there when I carry it back to my back counter where the machine lives because the water drips all over the floor. For me, if I'm making a few double espressos, two cups of water is more than enough. It would be nice if the pieces included could be magnetic so they could stick to the side of the unit, especially the little round red tool. I like things to be compact and tidy! ... show more

  • Very nice, and very compact.
This is my first genuine automatic espresso maker. I have a couple stove top units, and I thought that was pretty good, until I got this machine. The 15 bar pump, and the froth that it provides, makes it vastly better than any stove top pot could make. This machine is very simple to operate. I have not used the frothing wand, so I'm not sure about that, but as far as making a double shot espresso, it couldn't be easier. Make sure the easily removable water reservoir has enough water in it, and turn the power on. It heats the water in about 40 seconds. Choose your single or double shot filter basket and put it into the Portafilter handle. Put your coffee into the filter basket, tamp it down with the included tamper, and then position the Portafilter handle and lock it in place. Select your single or double shot by pushing the appropriate button, and about 30 seconds later, you have a rich, creamy espresso. Magnifico! I grind my beans fresh, and I've always ground them for an auto drip coffee maker, until I got the stove top espresso maker. I would typically set the grinder at its finest setting for espresso, but when I did that for this automatic maker, it turned out that was too fine a setting. There was too much absorption and only a small amount ended up getting all the way through the filter basket and into the cup. By selecting a setting on the grinder somewhere between the finest setting, and typical auto drip grind, it works perfectly. You don't want it to course either, because you won't get the proper flavor extraction. You can experiment, and tweak the setting until your espresso comes out in a nice constant flow when brewing. Another thing I learned was that if you put too much coffee in there, you won't be able to lock the portafilter handle in place. You want to fill the filter basket so that it's just below what you would consider full. If the coffee is level with the top edge of the basket, that's a little too much coffee. After you figure out a few of these details, you can have a double shot of espresso in about 2 minutes total, including grinding the beans and brewing. That's unbelievable to me, because a stovetop unit takes a good 10 minutes. Of course, the stove top unit is making quite a lot of espresso, compared to one 2 oz espresso. As soon as the machine is done making my double shot, I pretty much begin the entire process over in preparation for my next cup. Like I said, it's so easy, I don't even mind that, and the taste is so superior to the stove top unit, it doesn't even compare. The entire unit is extremely compact and takes up very little counter space. When I started looking into getting an espresso machine, most of the units are very large, and they can easily run over $500. This unit is perfect for my needs, and I would highly recommend it. I love it! ... show more

  • I’m learning…
Ok so let me first say I’ve never made espresso before in my life (but I have drank plenty!). I am a complete newbie to this. I am however a coffee snob lol I grind my own beans and all that jazz, I’ve been wanting an espresso machine but there are so many to chose from it was intimidating. I love how slim this machine is and that it doesn’t take up half my counter! It’s pretty simple to use. I highly recommend weighing your grinds though. I had some really poor results the first few times until I decided to suck it up and get out the kitchen scale. 12 grams in the double shot gives me great results! Don’t be like me…weigh the grinds like the instructions say the first time! So far so good and I’m loving the espresso. My only real complaint is I have followed the directions and I cannot seem to get a nice froth from the milk steamer. I end up with boiled milk…this is probably something to do with me and I plan to do more research to see if I can figure it out! If I do I’ll come back and give this 5 stars. All in all though I think this is a good machine! ... show more

  • Almost perfect
I’m surprised how this machine is so lightweight. Everything is very easy to use. The reason why this lost a star is because the milk steamer wasn’t working right, it seems to be just boiling the milk. Other than that, the rest of the machine works perfectly fine and it’s great for the price.

  • A Lot in a Compact Machine
Easy to get started and use right out of the box. Makes a good espresso, and the cup warmer is a nice touch. Steam wand rivals my pricey Breville, but that's all that does. If this would have been my first espresso maker, I likely would have given it five stars. It's fantastic for the price, as the Breville costs triple this. Very compact and lightweight for a small kitchen, with limited counterspace. It really is good. Not the best, but at the price point I don't know of a better one. ... show more
