The easy start valve feature allows for a easier start up using less starting amps. • When This Compressor Turns On, I Can Stay In The Room
Style: Air Compressor
I had been shopping for a new compressor for a while. I bought my Campbell-Hausfeld 20 gallon compressor in 2016 and never liked it. Slow to fill and noisy as heck. Finally a catastrophic failure in the pump forced my hand to buy a new air compressor. The California Air Tools line caught my attention for their noise rating. After comparing as many compressors as I could, I decided on the 15020C. On arrival I fired it up and did a leak test with soap and water. No issues, so I assembled it the rest of the way. I have been using it for 3 weeks and am pleased with the tank recovery and especially with the low noise. Though I am happy, the product was not perfect. I needed a horizontal compressor for the space I had available. I would have preferred a 20 gallon tank, but California does not make a horizontal thank that size. The one assembly issue I had was when installing the wheels, the plastic where the axle goes through the wheel was about 1/16" too thick. When the axle nut was tightened the wheel would not turn. I used a router bit in my drill press and skinnied the wheel hub by about 1/16" and now I can take my compressor for a walk any time I want. Though it will likely stay in its cabinet. On the pre-assembly test run I thought the decibels were higher than promised. When I installed the air intake filters, the noise came down to the level I expected. I'm happy. • Good little compressor, but not ULTRA quiet.
Style: Air Compressor
So i was a little skeptical about this, based on several negative reviews, but I really didn't have a choice being on a limited budget, and needing dry, oil-free air to power an expensive instrument ("lab-grade air"). Here's my honest review. It's not that quiet. I compared decibel ratings and this one is rated at 70db, but it's a little too loud for indoor use. I work in a large instrument laboratory with several compressors, coolers, etc... constant noise. But this one was very audible above the background noise. I bet the 1-horsepower version would have been quieter, but I needed the extra flow at 90psi. It's a LOT quieter than my 60-gal IR at home. But it works perfectly. I sprayed it with soapy water to find any leaks and didn't find any after attaching airlines. No leaks in the regulators or in the tank-feed line. The welding looks okay to me, and it can be moved around fairly easily on the wheels. We've only had it a couple of days, but it seems pretty good. The short power line is bad, and it has a little note on it that you can't use an extension cord with this unit. That's why it lost a star, along with the fact that the motor gets pretty hot (probably not unusual for oil-less designs). If it goes bad rapidly or gives us trouble, I'll update this review. ... show more

  • Very quiet
Style: Air Compressor
Would tighten loose screws on power switch. Mine came loose and didn't want to turn on. Also make sure this is what you want. Returning this item cost as much as the compressor.

Style: Air Compressor
Nice air compressor but one issue -when you open and use it .You will not return it to seller.

  • Quiet fast air
Style: Air Compressor
Much quieter than my old oiless 2 1/2 hp compressor but it was 32yrs in use. Have had this cal.air for only 2wks. and seated a 17" truck tire, 16ga nail gun and aired many outdoor equip. tires, hopefully it will last many years.

  • Quality build but few improvements needed
Style: Air Compressor
The media could not be loaded. What I like about this compressor is that, build quality is outstanding compare to all compressor I owned. Compressor noise is very low at first about a minute or two. But when I put load on it it starts to get bit louder but it's low compare to any pancake compressors. I was able to use this compressor in windowless workshop w/o disturbing my neighbors at 8 PM. I made few small changes to this compressor, I changed power cord grip because factory one was loose fit and moves quite a-bit. I changed bolt and nut for wheels because factory bolt has Phillips head type bolt. No matter how tight I screw it and wheel just falls off. I used hex bolt with short thread at the end. I used it several projects home remodeling and it's amazingly quite. I would definitely recommended this to any one interested. ... show more

  • Great only if you are a handyman and would rather work on this compressor than on the other projects you have :)
Style: Air Compressor
The thread sealant that they use on this air compressor is complete garbage and eventually cracks and air will eventually leak out all the connections from the tank check valve back to the piston head. Mine was leaking in some places right out of the box while other connections failed later on. No; the tank will not explode like someone else mentioned on here, the check valve works fine. The compressor does however take a lot longer to get up to pressure when you have had it a little while and it is full of leaks. Only way to fix this is to take all the connections apart and teflon tape & pipe dope them to make the unit air-tight. Runs a lot less and runs better when you do this. It has some nice components but the assembly is definitely sub par -- quite terrible actually. None of the legs or handles were welded on straight I had to bend all of mine to make it sit level. This thing comes straight from china for sure... Paint is so thin it will begin to rust through in about 3 or 4 months also. Love the idea of this unit but they seriously need to improve their quality control or else let someone else build it for them... ... show more
