Description

The CALIFORNIA AIR TOOLS 10020C Ultra Quiet & Oil-Free Air Compressor is designed to be one of the quietest 2.0 Hp air compressors in the industry having only 70 decibels of sound. The Powerful "New" 2.0 HP (SP-9421) motor operates at only 1680 RPM creating less noise and less wear. The "New" SP Series of Ultra Quiet Air Compressor Motors have been designed to increase duty cycle and allow for longer continuous run times. The Oil-Free Dual Piston Pump System is engineered for high performance and durability. The CAT-10020C Air Compressor has an Oil-Free Dual Piston pump designed to have a life cycle before wear of 3000 plus hours compared to other comparable air compressors with life cycles of 500 hours or less. The Oil-Free pump allows for use in a variety of temperatures (cold starts) and uneven terrains (no oil in the pump). The Easy Start Valve feature allows for a easier start up using less starting amps. The Easy Start Valve releases a small amount of air from the pump at start up to produce a no-load condition allowing the motor to spin freely. This no-load start up requires less amps for an easier start up in cold temperatures. The large 10 Gallon Steel Air Tank with wheel kit makes it very easy to move around the jobsite, shop or garage. Designed for the person looking for Power, Air Flow, Less Service and Maintenance with at Least 30% Less Noise!.

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

Customers express overall satisfaction with this compressor, highlighting its exceptionally quiet operation as a significant improvement from older models. While it's praised for being much quieter than expected, some users note that it can be noisier when specific components, like the fish tank hose, become loose. Its ability to support various tasks, including spray painting and running air tools without disturbing neighbors or housemates, is frequently commended. However, concerns about minor corrosion on fittings and the necessity of a cool-down period for continuous use are mentioned.

Pros

  • 🔇 Exceptionally quiet operation, making it suitable for residential areas and late-night work
  • 🔧 Supports a wide range of spray and air tool needs effectively
  • 👍 Recent improvements in quality, addressing past concerns raised by users
  • 🏠 Compact and efficient, fitting the needs of users with limited space

Cons

  • 🔊 Can become noisier if specific parts, like the included fish tank hoses, dislodge
  • 🛠 Minor corrosion on some metal parts, possibly due to storage conditions
  • ⏳ May require cool-down periods during extended use to prevent overheating

Should I Buy It?

If you're in need of a quiet, efficient compressor for home or light industrial use and are willing to address minor maintenance issues like loose parts or slight corrosion, this compressor comes highly recommended. Its quiet operation and quality improvements make it a worthy investment for those prioritizing a noiseless work environment.

  • Very quiet, and great for lighter jobs
It just hums while it’s on. Far from intrusive volume. Pressure is great, and it can maintain approximately 60psi through a blower indefinitely. I use it a lot to dry motorcycles after they've been washed.

  • Super quiet, noisier than I thought, but soooo much quieter than the old one!
Love it! I should have gotten this bad boy a long time ago! although his thing is super super super quiet as compared to my old one, it is louder than I expected for some reason. I think it has to do with the little fish tank hoses that comes with it. one of them keeps falling out... you will not believe the difference those two short little fish tank hoses make to the sound of this wonderful machine! The pump keeps up to my spray needs, the neighbors don't even know I am using it, unlike the old one...lol was it worth the money? every penny! Why no 5 stars? quite simply... the noise level increases when the little fish tank hose falls out by itself... fiz? a little gorilla glue. Other than that little tiny minute manufacturing detail, this thing is gang busters! ... show more

  • Initial Review: So far, so good
This is only an initial review. My compressor just arrived yesterday and I thoroughly inspected it before turning it on an putting it together. Overall, the quality has not been a concern, as I noticed it was in many of the reviews I read before buying. However, most of the poor quality reviews are quite old (4+ years). Seems they may have fixed most of the issues. I will say, the braided steel hose going from the motor output to the tank has corrosion on the fittings just below the nuts. I will include photos. There is also some brass corrosion present that appears to be from sitting in a warehouse in San Diego, near to the ocean water. I plan to put some light grease or rust bullet on there to stop it further. Now, in terms of initial operation impressions. It is a quiet compressor. I am very pleased with the noise level performance. I measured 80dB when standing right on top of it, and 70dB at about 10 feet away. My air blower attachments are much louder at 100dB. On that note, the compressor does in fact hold 5 CFM @ 90 psi. And when the compressor is running at the same time as the air tool, you can’t even hear it. I am no longer worried about bothering my neighbors with this compressor. One last comment, I will say that the air filters (which act as mufflers) do seem to cause the motor to get warm very quickly. I don’t plan to use for extended durations (max 30 min sessions for me), so the cool-down period is not an issue for me. But, if you plan to be using this compressor non-stop, the cooldown period might be a concern that you should read into. Overall, a 5 star compressor right now. I will update my review over time with general progress and/or if I run into any quality or operation concerns. So far, so good. ... show more

  • Great compressor, super quiet, runs air tools and I even painted my truck with it using a lvlp gun
I'm super happy with this product. I upgraded my little 2 gallon portable compressor which was hella loud and annoying, while this one is super duper quiet, I can't tell you how much I appreciate how quiet it is, I discovered pneumatic and I love those, this runs most air tools just fine, just pay attention to how much cfm they require when buying and your's will run well too. Air tools are cool, whole new world. I actually bought it because I wanted to paint my 66 ford ranchero with single-stage urethane in metallic british racing green and I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a larger compressor and didn't have a lot of space with the truck in the garage, I also wanted a quieter work environment. I picked up a little LVLP (low-volume low-pressure) spray gun from china that was about $120 bucks and even though a lot of people said it wouldn't work, it worked great (I had one redo but that was because I ran the paint haha, my fault). It also blows all the dust out of the garage quite well, especially with a 4' extendible barrel gun. all in all I'm pretty happy with it, I also use it to cool down spot welds when welding thin sheet metal, like body panels so they don't distort from the heat. Sometimes I wish I had more cfm so I could get a better paint gun that is HVLP but since I will only be painting cars once every year or two it fits the balance of my needs better. It's really nice you can still hear your stereo while it is running. So quiet it wouldn't even wake up a sleeping baby hahaha yeah naw that is an exaggeration but you get the point mate. ... show more

  • I like it but...
I was out grew my 4CFM @ 90psi air compressor for many reasons. The CMFs were to low for plasma cutting. The noise level practically jars my fillings loose when in operation, it also scares the living Jesus out of me when it switches on to replenish the air. After careful consideration I decided on the CAT 10020C. The specs seems to suit the needs of my home machine shop. It was delivered without incident from amazon. THE GOOD 1) Its pretty quite! By far the quietest compressor Ive ever heard. 2) The CFM is good for my needs. 3) Tank fills up quickly. 4) Assembly was easy. Didn't even open the manual 5) Now I can actually leave the air on overnight without worrying about it springing to life and waking the neighbors. THE BAD 1) The fittings on the front panel were defective. It leaked really badly when anything was connected. Also one of the fitting was just simply not functional. Had to replace both with a brand that had better flow and better sealing. 2) The fittings supplying air from the tank to the regulator and manifold is really cheap and plastic considering the price. 3) Its pretty heavy. If you are considering using this for outside jobs rather than a stationary compressor, you should probably shoot for a lighter model. Maybe the 4020. At 80+ pounds its not very portable. 4) *** IMPORTANT NOTE: When opening the box, lay the compressor on its side and remove it from its packaging. You can easily damage the water drain vale on the bottom of the machine if you slide it out vertically on a hard floor. Over all it a decent air compressor. Its great if you have a small 20x20 garage shop like mine with a full size lath and milling machine. At 70 db its still is the loudest tool i own. ... show more
