I’ll start by writing that I drink espresso only. I’ll make an occasional cappuccino. I mainly buy Lavazza brand espresso whole bean and I prefer 100% Arabica. This is mixture of Arabica and Robusta beans which I knew before purchasing, however, it is mainly Robusta. Dark roasted and very oily. It does produce a thick crema and does better in mixed espresso drinks as opposed to straight espresso. You can taste the dark roast and there is no acidic taste at all. Just deep, dark chocolate notes. I like lighter roasted non oily bean espresso so this isn’t for me, but if you like dark roast oily beans for mixed espresso drinks, then give it a try. ... show more

Ok. I want to first say that I like this brand. I think they roast a solid espresso roast that’s a staple around my house. It’s not top shelf, but it’s a good product. However - I order 4 pounds of the Miscela Top roast and what I received is a real shame. The beans were roasted two years and seven months ago.. They’re 3 months from expiration. For coffee, that’s a really big deal.. These beans have almost zero scent at all. They’re half crumbled.. Not broken beans, but literally crumbled- I could shake out the bottom of the bag and brew it as is. But the beans are so awful they’re not worth the effort. The taste is just burnt- none of the floral notes that should come through an Italian brew. To add insult to injury, the caffeine is either degraded so far as to be ineffective, or the beans are decaf. I drank a cup at midnight and went to bed 20 minutes later.. Not even an elevated heart rate- I fell asleep immediately. I don’t like leaving reviews like this but guys, please advertise your products accurately. If they’re marked down because they’re about to expire- YOU NEED TO SAY THAT! I understand they were half off normal price when I purchased - but I was duped by a company offloading product that is soon to be unsellable. It was a good price, but pre ground Folgers is significantly better. These beans are so bad, I’d say I would choose Folgers instant over these. If you don’t mind coffee from truck stop gas stations, this coffee might be for you. For all others, be wary of sales that seem too good to be true. Again, I like this brand and I like their products. I don’t know why they sold this.. I received two identical bags with the same roast date- so it wasn’t a fluke. A wild Italian espresso. The taste is rough compared to Italian espressos made from Arabica beans, but still flavorful and pleasing. I alternate between Borbone Red and Borbone Blue, which is an Arabica/Robusto mix. I wish these beans came in one pound bags so that I could rotate more often. I also put Manaresi in my rotation.
