  • Nice unit easy to use.
Received unit with dead battery, so after dropping another 10 to see if it works I can say it does. This is just an initial review as I have yet to link to kestrel for full ballistic capabilities but as just a basic range finder it functions very accurately.

  • Alright..
Pluses: Bright, great optics, fast, small, replaceable battery, provides a ballistic solution at your fingertips. Minuses: SMALL (if you have larger hands *i.s. standard large gloves fit only tightly" ), the Nitro is too small for proper handling with bare hands. Can't imagine how I would handle it at all with a gloved hand. Battery: battery life is only OK-ish. 4 minutes of continuous use drained it by a 3rd. Granted, it is fast, so you wouldn't make much use of the continuous use feature. Except the small size causes some uncertainty over functionality, forces one to do repeat measures and it all drive towards overshooting. Battery compartment cover: Certainly, using a replaceable battery is a plus, since - presumably - all you need is carry a couple of extra batteries with you. But... what's the use if you need either long nails or a sharp tool to pop open the tab and unscrew the battery cover? Not to mention the time for fiddling with it.. Lack of a tripod mount: that's an oversight hard to explain.. it's not like it adds a lot, physically, or costs a lot. The issue is.. with a device this small, in order to keep it steady, one needs perfect arm control. Which brings us back to the need to tense the muscles (natural instinct when trying to keep steady) while controlling the spotter and trying to fire it for readings. Adds up to a lot of frustration if you try to measure anywhere further than 40-50 yards. Bottom line: if you have smaller hands and do not keep your nails trimmed short, and have generally impeccable hand/arm control, the device is a good one for you. Take any of these away and I would not recommend it. ... show more

  • Great product.
Accurate out to 1k (couldn't test further). It took me a while to learn the interface. Only complaint, wish they had a "always on" setting, or a way to keep it from auto turning off. This makes linkng it to your Kestrel a PITA because it keeps needing to make the connection again. A real bummer when you're doing PRS and find out it timed out during your stage and you're on the clock. ... show more

  • Great product
works great with the Bushnell Ballistic app

  • Perfect for long range hunting.
I hunt in the west. I saw this ballistic Calc range finder first in the sig kilo and knew I wanted one. When I first bought it the bushnell app for iPhone had some glitches but they worked it out. Now it works great. Once you create your bullet and rifle profile in the app, you pair it to the range finder. The range finder keeps the latest data independent of the phone/app. So you don’t need your phone nearby as long as the last profile you had up was the correct one. the display Gives you mil or MOA come ups and wind. For hunting it saves time because you don’t need to translate your yard reading to your dope chart. It’s faster just using the range finder. It’s suits my purpose well and I’ve used it two years now. I target shoot to 1,000 yards and big game to about half that. The rangefinder itself has never let me down. ... show more
