UPDATED! Works, but damaged, RECEIVING REPLACEMENT!

UPDATE: The seller contacted me and indicated that I likely received a second hand, returned item and that was the cause for the damage. While I have been able to fix the unit I received with a little effort, the seller is going to send me a replacement. The responsiveness and customer service of the seller were excellent! As the item I received actually functions and the seller is making it right by sending me a replacement and a couple other items at no cost or obligation to me, I have updated my rating from 3 stars to 5 stars. The lights themselves really are good and work well. ORIGINAL: When I went to remove the lightstrip from the bag, I noticed that it was not fully wrapped around the spool. As I carefully pulled it out, I noticed that a portion of the strip was bent over on itself. Upon further inspection I noticed that some of the silicon covering that makes it moisture resistant had been damaged at about the third LED in the strip. Other than that it appeared intact. I plugged the string into a controller I had purchased separately and the lights lit up. I had other issues with the controller. However, when I touched the lightstrip, the lights flickered a bit and went out. I touched it again and they flickered again and came back on. I noticed that by flexing the damaged area, I could make the lights go on and off. Either there is an issue with the "wiring" in the strip or there is a bad solder joint. Either way, I can still make the strip work, but I took off a couple stars because of the damage and the fact that I'll have to do a bit of work to make them 100% functional. Not worth the time and effort to return them and play the replacement lottery when I have the know how to fix them.

Works great with Arduino, low current draw

It works great with an Arduino UNO. I accidentally wired 5V positive to the data pin, and it survived! It's very bright, but doesn't draw much current, even with the entire strip white at full brightness. Color accuracy is pretty good for an LED strip, yellow looks yellow, not red&green like cheaper LEDs. The strips are strong and flexible, and can be bent around a 90deg corner easily. Works perfectly fine with 5.25V from a cheap regulator. I'm a bit sensitive to flickering, but I didn't notice any flickering even with an electrically noisy power supply

This product was as advertised. The lights were bright and the silicone covering was pliable and soft. I used these for a WLED project and they worked great! I will be ordering these again.

Defective strip

Been working with strips for about 5 years. I know the ins and outs of them. The one I bought in April was saved for a project I worked on this week. I cut a few pieces to fit the project. Upon first connection it was fine. But after a few minutes the strips started to be unresponsive. I had to remove those sections and retry, but the same kept happening with the new strips. I’m outside the refund/return window but am not happy about the experience as this was for a client of mine. Update: their customer service did right by me and reached out. I had already purchased a new pack of strips through them, but they gladly compensated me for the defective strip. Besides the 1 detective strip I’ve received, all others and the controllers have been working well. 5 stars to them, and thanks to the customer service team as well.

Awesome, awesome product

Piercingly bright and shockingly colorful...I was blown away by these lights. I ended up driving them with a MeanWell 5V power supply and an Arduino Nano using the Adafruit library...super easy and it works great. I like the integrated IP65 silicone sheath, even though I'm not planning to use them outdoors. I used the string on our Christmas tree, so having a little splash resistance is not a bad thing. I ended up buying two sets, one at 60 LEDs/m and another at 30 LEDs/m. Different use cases for the two, but they work the same.

Fun to play with...

I liked this LED strip although I wish they were brighter. I have an old fluorescent light and I planned on removing the guts from it and putting these LEDs in it instead. The plan was to replace the light in the ceiling and then be able to change the colors of the light with my phone. These wouldn't be bright enough to replace a light in the ceiling though. I can still put them in the old florescent light enclosure but it would only serve as a mood light or accent light. Furthermore, I wish I would have bought an LED strip where the LED's were further apart. These LED's are less than half an inch apart and if I wanted to cover a large area then I would have to chop these up and solder 3 wires between each LED. This isn't a fault of the LED strip. It is my fault for not taking the spacing into consideration. My point is that before you order a programmable LED strip, be aware of what king of spacing you want. With all of that said, these things are a lot of fun to play around with. The ability to individually control the color of any LED is awesome. I would recommend these LEDs as long as you are sure you would like the spacing and they would be bright enough for you. I have a covered porch and I would love to buy another strip that is longer and has greater spacing. It would be cool to put them all around the porch and have them change colors or put on shows for different holidays.

Works amazingly well controlled by a Gigabyte Aorus Z3790 Gaming 5 motherboard. Very bright and colorful, temperature of the leds is low. Came with a minor flaw (crack in the silicone) if placing in a wet/weathered location be sure to check the strip before installing! Otherwise perfect! Also appreciate the extra pigtail, as i was able to use it to create a perfect length extension for use in my PC case. As noted by others there are solder points that are about half way down the 144led 1M strip. This did not affect functionality or flexibility at all.
