The “secrete” to getting the most from them is to use them as intended from the factory All the negative comments are from people trying to get them to do things they aren’t supposed to do Don’t buy a compact car if you need a dump truck! Very bright, reliable, consistent performance from panel to panel.

These panels work as advertised. The brightness and color is consistent from panel to panel so many panels can be mounted next to each other to create larger seamless displays. I have never had one of these panels fail after years of use. These panels are a bit too bright for my projects so I must turn down the intensity at the expense of color dynamic range. It would be nice to use the APA series of addressable LEDs for this reason as they have a 4-bit intensity register while still using the full 24-bit color range, but such panels are expensive and hard to find. These work well at a fraction of the cost so I will deal with the brightness and reduced color range by calling it a non-issue because they still look great!

Perfect Balance of Cost and Quality!

A dream to work with

I used this with a nodemcu esp8266 and the adafruit library. I'm basically using it to display blood glucose numbers. I'm not really stressing the unit as I'm displaying 3 digits plus a trend arrow. A 5v USB power supply should suffice for what I'm doing, but I'm powering the esp8266 and this matrix display with a dedicated 5v power supply. Overall this was a dream to work with.

Worked Great for Costume!

I bought this to hook up to an arduino and use as eyes for a light up costume. Overall, I thought they worked pretty great! I have found that they can blink a little if the wires are jostled but that was honestly probably my own wiring issue. I also had an issue with the lights looking kind of yellowish whenever I tried to set them to white but that could have also been traced to user error. In general, great lights! They’re surprisingly bright in normal lighting too but can be a little faint in the bright sunlight so just plan accordingly!

Buy extras because I almost always you have to re solder the power lines

The lights themselves are great. If you are using these smaller 8 x 8 ones, you need to buy a pair of these and add them to the larger 8 x 32 matrix to cover the entire back of most pinball machines. It will be somewhere short of 23inches long when you put all 3 together to make one large screen. HOWEVER, I can honestly say I have purchased easily 15-20 of these same brand matrix pieces ,or the speaker ring pieces. I have bought several of the 6 rings and 9 ring speaker pieces to help you understand. And 4 of the 8 x 32 long (256led) matrix pieces. **THE POWER LINES (which are in the middle) will easily fall off because whomever is soldering them doesn’t know what they are doing. So “BUYER BEWARE”. Make sure you buy extras or buy a small soldering kit and have someone who knows how to solder (if you don’t ) with you , or you will waist yours and whoever else’s time you may have paid to come help install a virtual pinball machine LED Matrix!
