I recently ordered 3 small Bonsai from Brussels Bonsai - a Jade, Fukien Tea, and a Ficus. They arrived separately 1 week apart. Each had been packaged very carefully and on time as promised. All arrived safely looking healthy and well, and with no pests. The Jade had only lost 2 tiny leaves, and the Fukien and Ficus were completely intact. The small Bonsai pots are lovely. The humidifier trays and rocks also arrived in excellent condition. Set up including deboxing only took 5 minutes. Would most definitely order from Brussels Bonsai again.

First the basics: The Ficus came quickly and very, very well packaged. There were no broken branches, and I think only one leaf was lost. I didn't note any insects or other problems. The Ficus appears healthy. When I got the package opened my jaw dropped. The Ficus was beyond my expectations. Being about 7 years old the Ficus had been beautifully formed. It's really what you would picture the appearance of a classic bonsai to be. I just hope I can continue to give it the kind of care it deserves going forward. I'm well pleased!

I watched the tracking like a hawk - with single digit temperatures I wanted to make sure the tree didn't have to endure anything too crazy. When it arrived I slowly brought it up to temperature by storing it on the cooler porch, then brought it into the house. The box was a lot bigger than I thought. I opened it up and found lots of packing peanuts. I scooped out a layer and found the tree. Reached down to lift the whole pot but it was taped securely to the bottom of the box. Once I realized it was wrapped up and I could invert it without anything shifting or soil getting rustled around I inverted the box and disposed of the peanuts. With the pot in plain view a few cuts and I had the tree free. The trunk is in great condition, there were already a few training wires on the lower branches. Lots of darker, healthy looking leaves. The soil was moist and the pot very nice. I had already ordered a humidity drip tray, filled that up and then placed my new tree in the middle. The soil was still cool, in the interest of still trying to allow it to warm up gradually I placed the tree close to my north facing picture window. We're on day three. Some leaves are curling and I've given it some high humidity baths (cool mist humidifier).. The description says it could drop 20%. We'll see. Day 20. About five days in all leaves curled up and turned brown. I've continued misting and watering on schedule. Green buds that were on the branches looked promising but turned brown as well around day 12. I continue to keep the soil moist and mist. I have e-mailed Brussels Nursery for help. Day 25. Branches seem to feel 'dead', leaves are all dead and starting to fall off naturally. I have not received any word back from Brussel's so I've initiated a return of the product. I'll keep the tree for a week or two before I send it back in hopes for a miracle. NOTE: The Brussel's website states that trees should NOT be delivered in cold or hot temperatures. My tree arrived on the day we were in the 'Polar Vortex' and temperatures in the single digits. The Amazon page does not list this. So ship in COLD or HOT at your own risk. I have to assume that's what killed my tree. I followed the instructions perfectly.

Tree came in very healthy and pretty, looks like the picture (they form all these trees to look like the picture). However their watering instructions and other reports online for watering were very different then what this tree wanted. My tree lost 96% of its leaves before I was able to find its happy medium of temperature, light, and water. I have "Mr. Light Desk Top Plant Light with Built-In Tray" for the light set up on a timer, and my plant is very very picky about temp swings and drafts so he is in the kitchen, and he likes water every 3-4-sometimes 5 days. I dont water a set time, I wait till the soil is starting to turn a lighter brown where it looks like the next two days it would be dry then I water. He now has two branches full of leaves back but two other branches appear dead, however the plant and "backgrowth" onto these other limbs if it feels the need, so if your bonsai drops its leaves and you save it, let it grow uninterrupted for at least a whole year. I tried to contact the seller for advice and questions, amazon took 10 mins of just hunting down an email address, emailed months ago and still have not heard anything. So pray you dont need to contact Brussel's Bonsai.

I bought this as Christmas gift for my dad. I was pleasantly surprised to see a beautiful healthy plant arrive. I ordered it 2-3 weeks before Christmas to let it adjust in my home before giving it to my dad. No issues for me with acclimation, no yellowing or dropped leaves. When my dad opened it he was so happy, it was his favorite gift of the year! I do think the instructions are not quite right though. I have hundreds of plants and cared for it based on my experience, while my dad followed the instructions and had poor results. A few weeks after Christmas he sent me a pic showing ficus had dropped most of its leaves and was looking very sad. He had been watering every 2-3 days, as per instructions. I told him that was too much, let it dry out and water once a week. It’s now been a few months and plant is coming back with new leaves and looking much better.

I'd wanted a bonsai tree for quite a long time, and was surprised to find live ones for sale on Amazon. After some research, I decided this ficus might survive my care, and the price seemed very fair to me-- low enough that I wouldn't be terribly put off if I did end up killing the poor thing. It's been over six months now and this tree really doesn't ask much of me. If I forget to water it for a while (as I often do), it will start to lose its leaves (as you can see in the photo). But once I water it and put the poor thing back in some light, it begins to sprout new leaf buds almost overnight! I don't care to do much yard work or landscaping outside my home apart from the bare minimum, so I wouldn't be comfortable leaving it outside where mites and other things might infect or otherwise damage it. But as long as I remember to give it some sun or even light from a compact fluorescent from time to time, it appears quite happy living indoors. The shipping packaging, for what it's worth, was excellent in regard to the plant's well-being. The box perfectly accommodated the tree and was loosely filled with packing peanuts to gently support the branches and leaves and all. It was obviously a complete mess to unpack, but my tree was in excellent shape on arrival. If you like plants but don't have a green thumb, this is honestly an excellent choice. Just do a bit of research on the specific tree you want, and just keep an eye on it from time to time. In the past I've managed to kill both bamboo and cacti in less time than I've had this lovely little tree, and I'd been told that both of those were virtually indestructible. But the tree has survived and continues to do well in my questionable care. So if you're afraid of killing it, you probably won't (unless you put it in a closet and willfully ignore it for weeks on end lol). I definitely recommend this particular seller and tree and would buy from them again without hesitation, hands down.
