This particular plant is very hardy & produces magnificent flowers ranging to seven" in diameter. Of all shrubs with flowers, the Azalea is by far the most dramatic with brilliant blooms of radiant colors blooming in late spring. While there are many species of Azalea, the satsuki, or Rhododendron indicum is easily one of the most popular, featuring an excellent low, twiggy habit with lovely funnel shaped unscented flowers in whites, pinks, reds & purples. The satsuki is identified by two blossoms on the end of the terminal; they also have slightly hairy leaves budding out freely from even fairly old wood. Because the Azalea is highly coveted in Japan, there have been hundreds of different varieties, in every color except yellow, bright orange, & true blue. Each live plant is shipped with the phytosanitary certificate as required by the USDA.

First the Pros: Arrived fresh and very well packaged. The pot is nice, however, no where near what is pictured. Cons: The plant, including the container, with its feet, is 14" tall - the tree itself barely measures 10" to the top of the highest leaf. There are NO side branches, as shown in the picture. There is a clump of mostly very small dead twigs - less that 1/2" long - where a branch should be. The trunk, which shown no taper, is smaller around than my finger and exhibits wire marks and I removed a small piece of broken wire from the tree. With several years of TLC it MIGHT turn into an acceptable specimen, but I doubt it will ever look good close up. It is, at best, viewed from 15' to 20'. I could not find a sticker to show the age of the tree, but if it is ten years old, this must have been the runt of the litter. My yard has several elms and every year I pull "weed" elms from my flower beds. This looks like one of them with a bend in it's trunk. If this was my first Bonsai it might pass, or I would give up on this hobby. I have seen better at Walmart and at yard sales for a lot lower cost. Honestly, Amazon needs to do a better job of inspecting what is sold on their site - I expected better from them. ... show more

    • Very unsatisfied with the purchase I must say.
The item in the photos is a well tended plant, without the removal of the top of the trunks. The one I received is a travesty. Every single trunk has been decapitated for some stupid reason, now they can t even grow in height, which is the big deal of the Dawn Redwoods, so I could have just as easily done the same thing with something much cheaper. I bought this because it looked very nice, and there is no mention of the decapitations of the tops of the trees. You could offer me a refund. ... show more

I'm extremely satisfied with this purchase. I spent two days going through sites and reading reviews before deciding on which type of bonsai/company I was going to buy from. I also considered price and shipping. Brussel's Bonsai seemed like the best place, and their Fukien Tea seemed like the best bonsai to go with given the lifestyle I have (no yard or outside space to have a bonsai, so it had to be indoor-specific). A lot of the reviews were hit and miss based on condition upon arrival or having it die within the first week/month (though that could be from lack of knowledge on how to properly take care of the Fukien Tea because though it brags of easy care there is still care that needs to be done--just not extensive). So I finally decided to order the Fukien Tea. It was delivered two days earlier than the estimated delivery date and was packed very well to avoid damage and drying out. The shipping company also did a fine job of handling it well (which could also be the cause of damage upon arrival that most people don't realize is the shipping company's fault and NOT the company they bought from). The tree was very hardy and "bushy" and came in a sturdy ceramic container. I gave it a good pruning to show off the shape of the trunk and give it that bonsai look. It's very easy to prune a Fukien Tea into a desired shape, and you can do it all-year-round to help maintain its shape, and requires no new wire-training. I purchased a humidity tray to help maintain good humidity, as that is essential to the Fukien Tea, and an LED grow light to also help promote healthy growth/flowering because even though it's a great indoor tree, it still needs indirect sunlight (direct sunlight outside can actually hurt the tree) and an LED grow light is more beneficial than setting it by a window with fingers crossed. I also purchased a Ganesh figurine from my local Asian gift store for decoration to help create a more "zen" feel. Overall this worked out for me very well with basic knowledge and a little more research. The instructions that came with the tree were very vague, so I definitely recommend reading a few articles on the type of bonsai you're looking to care for to get a better feel of how to keep it thriving. ... show more

My tree was delivered today, and isn't quite as described. This is my first bonsai tree, so I'm not sure if I should be concerned about its appearance or not. It is certainly no where near as full as the others have shown in their reviews, or in the product description. I know that it is a tree, and so each one will obviously be different, but this one looks much more sparse than the others. I guess time will tell. In all, it arrived a day sooner than expected and was packaged well. The soil was moist, though you can see the dead leaves that were on top of the soil, when I first removed it from the package. The pot is a pretty blue and quite eye pleasing. I'll update more as the months go on and adjust my review accordingly. For now I will give it 3 stars. In reality, is like to give it 3.5, but since that is not an option and their were dead and broken leaves, I decided to go down, rather than up. ... show more

Wow! What a great tree! Was a little scared with the negative reviews and the low price for the advertised size of the tree. Decided to go for it since I never have any problems getting good customer service from Amazon. I am glad I did. I received a beautiful, healthy tree of 9.5" and 12.5" including the pot - well within the advertised size. It has a few separate mounds and a great snaky trunk. I've added a picture. This is at least a $60 tree on any bonsai site so also a great buy! Also, of importance is how well it was packaged for shipping almost to the point of being a little hard to unpack but I don't mind having that problem in this case. The tree was packaged so there would be no movement with the pot being well wrapped all the way up to the trunk to retain moisture. I am very impressed and will probably by another for an additional location. Beware those of you new to bonsai - this is an outdoor tree. It will not live for any length of time indoors. ... show more
