Description

Native to subtropical regions, this small robust plant is often cultivated as a rock bonsai because it develops mangrove like roots. Glossy green leaves are delicately divided and upright umbels produce orange-red to black berries. The leaves are miniature and shaped like umbrellas, which together, form a beautiful, green, and dense canopy. The trunk is relatively thin and does not branch out into a crown as some other tropical plants do and prolific root growth is interesting and very attractive. The Hawaiian Umbrella Tree comes in a dwarf version that makes a beautiful bonsai. In fact, this particular Bonsai tree is probably one of the easiest to grow and maintain, making it perfect for beginners.Each live plant is shipped with the Phytosanitary Certificate as required by the USDA.

Words cannot explain our unbelief when we finally got this tree unpackaged. It is 21 inches tall from the base and 21 inches wide.and very dense with branches and leaves. It has a very attractive shape and appears very healthy. It was not missing a leaf and nothing was broken. It was extremely well packaged to protect it. You thought "Snickers" was packed with peanuts. Have a garbage bag ready to hold all the peanuts and be very careful unpackaging it. My son was extremely happy with his birthday gift and we love the look of the tree in front of our picture window. it arrived earlier than promised. The expected delivery date was the 15th and it arrived on the 12th. For information I'll tell you what else you will need. You will need a humidity drip tray to fit the planter. The top of the planter is 13 by 10 inches wide but the base is 10 by 7 inches wide. You will also need slow release organic fertilizer pellets. The plant needs to be watered every two or three days and sprayed from the top every so often to remove dust from the leaves and trunk. A sprinkling watering can or spray container should do. In short I highly recommend this tree and it was cheaper on amazon than from Brussels Bonsai. They have some of the most amazing bonsai trees you will see on their site. Enjoy this tree! Also don't forget to watch Brussel's Bonsai's video on watering and care of Bonsai trees. There is a lot to learn about caring for Bonsais. It is not the same as caring for ordinary house plants. Also the care of each variety is different. Do yourself and your Bonsai a favor and purchase a book that has care for different types of Bonsais. The one we got here on Amazon is, The Bonsai Survival Manual. Although it doesn't have the care of this specific variety it lists clubs and other ways to obtain care info. Also a call to Brussel's was worth it, they told us to water every other day and fertilize every two weeks, but you have to water as indicated in the video. Good Luck! ... show more

Looked just like the picture of it. It came very quickly and looked great. I lost a few leaves, but not as much as I thought I might. I have a lot of new leaves coming on. Very pleased with it.

The Good: -Tree came well packed...although the peanuts were hard to get out because they get in to all the hiding spots...and break apart in withing the tree- -Its healthy so far...came fertilized, can see all the green pellets everywhere. The soil was moist and wrapped in plastic -What a beauty.... King of my Bonsai collection so far Other Thoughts: -I'm not if this is to be expected or not...but my tree came with gnats and they have replicated at an astonishing rate...Apple cider vinegar traps seems to be doing the trick -I wouldn't say my tree looks like the “stock photo”....as you can see the branches and trunk are different … I expected that though -This thing is huge, a lot larger than I expected -As for a tray to sit in...I found a large one at Home Depot...since there are holes in bottom of planter it will leak out if not in a tray The Bottom Line: I recommend this tree if you have the space for it! Not too thrilled about the the gnats though! Note: I received this product at a discount; my opinions are always honest and unbiased. Hope this helps. ... show more

This will be a real time analysis of the purchasing experience. I ordered by bonsai 4 days ago. Weather has turned and I am concerned about the temperature. So I called Brussel's Bonsai in Olive Branch, Ms. I called to ask about how they ship them. I purchased second day but it was later on New Year's Eve so I knew it wouldn't go out till this week. I just wanted it to get here quickly once it did ship. The woman I talked to was uninterested in my concerns and really couldn't have cared less as to why I was calling. Stay tuned...Update received the plant exactly when I suspected I would. It basically took about 36 hours to get to SW Virginia from North MS. It was well packed and soil was damp. It was very cold but did not seem to have frozen overnight during the trip here. The plant is healthy, has been trimmed somewhat effectively, but for a bushy appearance. (just as shown in the pics for the product on Amazon.) I will need to take the plant in a totally different direction if I want to raise the canopy and shoot for more and longer air roots. It's been on my credenza at work for a week now and we'll see how it does. I guess the rest is up to me. Brussel's and Amazon did their part. ... show more

It is a wide tree which could be nice. But unfortunately the tree has many yellow leaves. The ceramic pot is all broken.

I purchased mine christmas 2018. I was frustrated at first because it came with a million peanuts and did get freezer burn from the trip. I removed dozens upon dozens of dead leaves within weeks. The poor plant was in shock. I was waiting for it to die.... but I put it it my window. Tended to it daily. Trimmed off dead pieces. Turned it weekly. And now it’s budding with so many new growths and is doing quite well. Happy with the purchase. ... show more
