  • Awesome Tent!
Love this tent! Easy to set up, roomy, and great features. The fly covers the entire tent to keep it dry. The windows and doors, combined with the roof vent keep it relatively cool on sunny days. No problems with stitching or attach points. The fly blends in so as not to be too obtrusive in the woods. Great tent. No for backpacking of course, its a bit on the heavy side, but that's ok, as it is a 4 person tent. My wife and I use it for just us. This gives us plenty of space. Fits a Queen size air mattress with tons of extra space for gear. The pegs are aluminum, and hold OK, but I will be changing those out for heavier steel stakes, just a personal preference. ... show more

  • I finally found my tent!
I've purchased 3 tents in the past few years and the Glacier 4 is the one that excites me the most. I have a Eureka Grand Manan 6P and a Kelty 4P. I liked the size of the Eureka and the ease of pitching the Kelty. I needed something that I could easily pitch by myself when camping alone but also needed roominess for two people. The Glacier 4 is just that tent. Most 4P tents are not tall enough to stand but the Glacier 4 is 6', which gives me just enough head room to stand without bending over. Also, the floor space is greater than my Kelty. I have two Coleman 30x80" cots that fit nicely in this tent with about 2 feet between them We store our gear under the cots and it works great for us. There has been some confusion as to whether this is a 4 season tent so I called Alps and they confirmed that it was because all the mesh zippers closed. Even with the rain fly attached, which I always have done, there is lots of ventilation. You can see in the photo how the rain fly rolls up on the sides allowing nice ventilation. They have clips to hold the fly which is a nice feature. There is also a roof vent that unzips to let warmer air exit the tent. Both doors have mesh and also are covered for privacy. Even without the rain fly this tent has complete privacy with just a few zips. There are clips along the floor in each corner to connect a floor saver (will be getting soon) which is another nice touch. There are two mesh pockets in two of the corners. This tent is a joy to pitch for one person. Two larger than most diameter aluminum poles go up quickly and then the tent clips to the poles. This is exactly what I was looking for in a tent. No more handling heavy fiberglass poles like my Eureka has. Spent two nights in the rain with no issues, of course, no wind or heavy thunderstorms accompanied the rain but I would imagine the tent would do fine. There are 6 guy out points on this tent. Side vents zip closed and the zippers on the doors are #10, which are large compared to my other tents. I only have a couple things I am not crazy about and both are not a huge deal. First, I like D shaped doors with one zipper pull. This one has one zipper that closes the bottom of the door. Annoying, but not keeping me from loving the tent. My biggest concern is the rain fly vestibule opening. The vestibules are fairly large but getting in and out of a wet tent the flap falls on my back and can get me wet. I am going to find a way to be able to hold the flap open somehow. In conclusion, this is a great tent so far and will certainly post any problems I might have along the way. There is a Glacier 6P Extreme that I was looking at but the cost is about $200 more but also includes the floor saver. • I live in this tent!
I have been remiss in not writing a review about this tent. I have lived in this tent for 6 weeks, plan to continue to live in it for another 8 weeks, and I am loving my life more than I ever have! I have this tent mounted on top of a utility trailer, exposed to all the elements in the wettest, windiest March I remember in Las Vegas in the last 10 years. Temperatures have been in the low 30⁰s with 50 mph wind gusts, and I have been snug and comfortable in my tent. The tent is both wind and waterproof in driving rain (I did also spray it with water repellent before setting it up full time. The straight wall design allows me to stand up all over inside the tent making it feel super roomy. I have an extra long, wide, and tall twin cot and an IKEA chair and footstool in the tent for a snug place in inclement weather. The low placement of windows along the side of the tent and the vent in the roof cool the tent during hot days. It sets up in minutes, even by myself if I stake it down first. The zippers are super durable. I am extremely pleased with the comfort, durability, and ease of this tent, and if it ever dies, I will buy the exact same tent to replace it. ... show more

  • Hard to set up
It’s comfortably tall so no need to crouch down when inside. I tried to set it up by myself before using on a camp site as recommended, but failed. The problem could be the height of the person attempting to set it up. You might need assistance from a 2nd person. I also noticed, as did another customer, “The support poles are VERY long and it's not at all evident that they can bend”. The fabric looks and feels sturdy. The other feature that would be great to have on this 4 person model is the sleeves that the support poles are fed through (like the 6 person model has). I want to know what kind of seam sealant and water proofing solutions are appropriate for this tent. Any tent will leak over time if not properly maintained. I might change my review once I actually use the tent on a fishing trip in Minnesota and North Dakota. ... show more

  • Great Tent - heavy and bulky to carry but by far my favorite tent..
This tent is HEAVY. That's not a bad thing, I'm just saying know what you are getting when you order this. I ordered this tent specifically to use in heavy rain and winter. Even so, I was quite surprised at how big it is in the bag. What makes it so big and heavy are the poles. Although they are aluminum, they are about 3/4" diameter. Some of them are angled and that makes them pretty big in the bag. There is no way this is ever going camping with me where I have to take this more than 100 yards away from my car. That being said, it is my go to tent. Sets up just as fast and easy as my smaller tents so why not be able to stand up in the tent? Opens wide up for the summer and zips up tight for the winter. Update: I left my tent laid out on the ground (tent body and rain fly separately) to make sure it was totally dry after a camping trip. I was driving away from my house when, of course, even though the sun was shining it started to pour rain. When I got back I figured I would just leave it out the next day to dry out. I came back from work (almost 24 hours after the rain) and went to check the tent and there were 3 inch deep puddles of water on both the tent and fly where the tent had settled into the grass. Bottom line - this thing is waterproof like a pool liner. ... show more
