  • Worst printer i’ve owned
Style: MFC-J895DW
Since I purchased this printer it has never worked flawlessly. I buy only the high yield Brother brand 3013 ink cartridges. The printer never prints anything without a blurred line, missing text/ image. With brand new cartridges in there the machine keeps asking me to clean the nozzles, when I do the printing is worse. Save yourself the aggravation and don’t buy this printer. ... show more

  • Installation and Setup
Style: MFC-J895DW
I purchased this printer to replace a cheap B&W Dell printer I had for nearly 10 years! I'm surprised this printer lasted this long! I was looking for an all-in-one printer that I could start using on a more frequent basis. The reviews seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. Along with comparing it to other competitive printers such as HP, Epson and Canon it seemed the better choice mainly the ink cost. When I finally the comparing down to two printers which was between Brother and Canon. Canon had more functions as far as CD/DVD printing and SD card printing which I loved because I take a lot of pictures and that it would be great to be able to print from home, however, it wasn't a function I needed a day to day basis and the ink cost were significantly higher and would cost more in the long run with how much I would print. Brother was just the better choice and the ink cost is significantly lower than the other competition. However, installing and setting up this printer was a bit complicated and confusing. I do not have a CD-ROM on my PC and Brother did provide instruction on how to install via their website. It seemed simple enough, where it took a left turn was getting it connected to my WiFi. Setting up on the printer was simple but it continued to say during the installation on my PC that my device (printer) could not be found. I retried twice and finally resulted to selecting the second option of attempting to install by other means. In the middle of this second way a get a pop up that reads along the line of does your device state WiFi was successfully connected, if so check this box. So I think okay great it's going back to simply well then I get another window pop up that states failed to connect/failed to find device. Click okay. I start reading on the main installation page if your device has not popped up here, click here. My device was not listed so I select click here and once the new window pops up I see the printer name pop up in the background. So I exit from the new window to return to the main installation page again. Select my device and continue to follow the instructions. Go through the remaining of the pages and get a pop up window that states connecting device was not successful. Click out and on main page it states installation successful. It was so contradictory and confusing, but it indeed connected. And to find the device in order to install it was confusing as well. I still cannot wait to put it to use. I'm hoping for a great product vs. their installation process. I'll update if there are any problems I run into. I did print a few test pages and the ink is definitely fine and clear so far. ... show more

  • Solid, reliable printer
Style: MFC-J895DW
I've had this printer since Feb 2019. I was getting fed up with the "cost-effective'" printers in the $50 range as I was going through about one of those a year so I "splurged" on this one (it was much less at the time, but #inflation). No regrets. This printer has been much better than its HP, Epson, and Canon predecessors. It alerts you in plenty of time of low ink, but I always keep an extra pack on hand anyway. I like that you can change the individual color cartridges out so you get more mileage depending on what you print. I use it in a wi-fi configuration only so we can print from all over the house and from any device with no issues. It does notify you of firmware updates, has an easy to navigate and understand front panel (I love that you can adjust it so that you can read the panel if you are standing over it). As far as print quality, I probably wouldn't print photos meant to be scrapbooked on it just because the color saturation isn't the depth I'd like on photos (we are photography snobs, tho), but scanning/printing/copying reports, papers, recipes, stickers, labels, and envelopes is fine. Very good quality for those. Support is easy to get. I had a "clean print roller message" recently but went to the Brother website, looked up my model, and it had easy to follow instructions with pictures. It was clean and working fine in less than 5 minutes. I'll definitely be sticking to the Brother brand when the time does come to replace this printer. ... show more

I love everything about this printer. No problems with it after two years regular use with excellent print quality scanning and faxing are easy and printer seems to self maintain!
