Exactly what I need. Enough stitch selections to repair my shirts, pants and small rugs (etc.). I had a smaller sewing machine with not enough cloth depth to allow me to do anything except shirt collars. Not enough height in-foot to do even slightly-thicker materials. This full-size machine, brand name too reminds me of my Grandma's Treadle manual Singer, straight-stitch machine.. very heavy and cast-iron, the new BROTHER is way easier and lighter-weight. Easier to put-away from dust in room when not in-use.

I owned a sewing machine before and I got rid of it a couple of years ago. I always found it very aggravating and confusing. I recently decided I needed to try again because my hand stitching looks like a child has done it. I only need to be able to repair and hem things on occasion, so I wanted to be economical. I wanted to find something that would be easy to deal with. This refurbished Brother machine (in aqua) turned out to be the perfect choice! All the parts were in the box, including the instruction manual. I did watch several videos online to get a close-up view for threading the machine, placing the bobbin, and getting started. Threading the machine was super easy! My first project was to hem a top that was too long. My first attempt had to be unpicked with a seam ripper, because it was not straight. After that, I got the hang of it. At one point, when I finished one side, the threads did not pull from the machine easily to be cut. I took the bobbin out and put it back in again (Very easy) and The problem was solved. For the material I was working on, I did end up changing the stitch settings for a closer stitch and changed the tension from a four to a five. After the shirt I repaired a pair of dress pants. I’m very happy with this purchase, and I have ordered a soft storage/ carry case for it. On a side note, I did not have to fill/ load a bobbin this time because I had bought a pack of bobbins in various colors after doublechecking that it fit this machine. The bobbins were the exact right size for the machine. So if you are a beginner or just someone who does repairs, this Brother model Is an excellent choice!

What a plastic piece of crap. This machine won't even load the bobbin without a big uneven mess. Lots of information in the booklet, but nothing about how to change the light bulb, no phone number to call for help. A long list of threads to use and which needles to use but no numbers on the needles it came with. So you would not know if you had the right needle for the material you intended to use. I've used other sewing machines but I've never seen one that had a plastic lever to lift the shoe (foot) up and a little plastic post for the thread spool. It's pretty, It's light and the size is great but right now I don't like it. Just received it today.
