Description

This lightweight, full-size sewing machine features 17 utility and decorative stitches. The SM1704 offers the perfect set of features for everyday sewing and mending, at an affordable price. Selecting your stitches is as easy as turning the dial, and the tension control dial and reverse sewing lever give you added control at your fingertips. The four included sewing presser feet allow you to easily insert zippers, create buttonholes, sew on buttons, and handle general sewing. This machine also has a jam-resistant Quick-Set drop-in top bobbin, clear-view bobbin cover and bobbin, automatic bobbin winding system, and a free arm for sewing cuffs and sleeves. Included are a twin needle, extra spool pin, and darning plate as well as instructional DVD and an English and Spanish user manual.

I bought this machine as a beginner, mainly to do light sewing tasks like bag linings and minor alterations — and it’s been perfect so far! It’s simple to use, easy to thread, and not intimidating at all. The stitch options are just enough without being overwhelming, and it runs quietly, which I really appreciate when working late. It’s definitely not meant for thick fabrics or heavy-duty sewing, but for everyday projects and learning the basics, it gets the job done beautifully. I love this little machine! I gets the job done and its great for beginners like me! I threaded the needle easily. Filled the bobbin with the easy instructions and now my jeans are hemmed like a pro. This came with a carry case! I absolutely would tell you if your starting out and dont care about all those fancy stitches and you just want to make curtains or hem pants. I have owned a lot of portable sewing machines. This one sews well but there are two things that could have been executed better: 1) the base of the machine does not make full contact with the surface that place the machine is on for sewing, which does cause the machines to tip if you put weight on that spot. It does not interfere with the sewing but it can be a bit annoying 2) The thread cutter is not efficient.I much prefer my thread cutter to be on the back of the column that lifts the presser foot up and down. The motion for this type of thread cutter is much smoother and efficient. I still can't get used to using the cutter on this machine. Overall I am happy with this product. I was skeptical about getting a sewing machine for this inexpensive price, but it works great and really isn’t difficult. Great instruction booklet! I haven’t tried any fancy stitches, just normal stitches. I made a Halloween costume for my grand baby, and I hemmed 4 pairs of pants for my daughter, so far. I like that it’s not huge, and I easily store it in my closet inside the box it came in, along with the accessories I need (all in one box). Great value for the money. Sturdy.
