This Brother Color Laser Printer is HEAVY (It says so in BIG LETTERS right on the box!) not so much you can't lift it, but dropping it would be a DISASTER. It might weigh 50 lbs, so you might want some help moving it around. The (included and already installed) BK C M Y toners are High-Yield, good for thousands of prints, and the included printed setup directions easy with clear diagrams on what to open, take out, and to remove shipping tags and plastic protectors. So far though, turning the printer on and pushing the right buttons for the prompts on the LED display is mysterious. (There's a handbook for this printer I'll have to download!) I didn't do enough research and the printer will ONLY work with Windows 10 & 11 32&64 bit, Mac OS and Linux, so my W7pro computer "To be printed files" are being downloaded to a nice new Windows 10 pro i7 with massive storage and RAM before I can do any printing. Getting the installation and setup programs is easy, (setup.brother.com) but none of that information is useful without at least a Windows 10 system that's compatible with the drivers. I got this printer because an ink-jet just doesn't have the quality for a long-lasting print, no matter what kind of paper it's printed on. A laser print on good paper will last for hundreds of years. That's value. A good reason for my purposes, but I also like the USB-connected printing capability (which it has) and don't like WiFi for the security concerns. (Two Days later) On the Windows 10 pro computer the Brother Color Laser installation was over and done with quickly. I had downloaded the "full" install version that includes the driver. The installation gave me the option of USB or WiFi and after that it was done. I just printed a photograph in rich darks and contrasting light tones from the open document in Photoshop 9. There was NO problem in recognizing the printer. The print only took about 10 seconds and came out beautifully, like the picture I took with amazing, perfect, details and exactly delicate colors and contrast. I had just resized it from 28 x 22 @ 180 to 10.5 x 8 @180 for normal A4 paper and printed, just to see what it would do. It prints Art! Initial thoughts: -setup: very easy. Had to pull out each toner cartridge to break off some tabs that helds things still for shipping, and pull out some plastic; took about 5 mins without needing to look at instructions. I did look at them later and it was straightforward. -size/weight: a lot heavier than I expected, but its the same size at it looks. -add to wifi: you can run a setup and connect to the printer from your PC or phone and use that to change the wifi on your printer, or you can add it manually via the small one line LCD screen. I did it this way; it will definitely be painful for anyone with crazy long passwords with extra symbols like me. It was easy, just a lot of hitting the down-arrow icon looking for next character. But it added immediately, and was available immediately for search from my PC. -printing: it prints fast and its very quiet, Enough so that when I print to it (its directly behind my wife's desk) she doesn't notice. You can definitely hear it, but its quiet enough to blend in to background noise. -print quality: documents look sharp, icons etc look good both in color and black and white -print quality, photos: used some laserjet photo paper and printed out a picture: I'll put it in the 'good enough for a postcard or to send your mom her annual family pic to frame'. Definitely not the color sharpness/brightness you'd get from CVS, but not expecting that, either. We will likely use it for our next party invite instead of going to UPS store to print. -mobile printing; TBD, haven't tried -duplex printing: TBD, haven't tried -toner life: we probably won't need new toner for 6+ months and I'll try to update then. Overall, it does everything I expect it to at the level I expected. If you need a general/workhorse printer capable of printing anything at a reasonably decent level- this is likely the printer for you. If you are looking to print pictures to frame; get a color inkjet. Or just keep printing @ CVS which is likely cheaper anyway. ... show more

I've used Brother printers in my businesses for many years. They were low cost, quality printers, which had many options for inexpensive 3rd party toner cartridges. This is not the case any longer. I bought this unit for my home office. After 34 days of use, (799 pages) I get a low toner message, even though the toner is just over half used. Toner reset procedures no longer work. Apparently Brother updated the firmware in these printers to lock that out. I order some new 3rd party toner cartridges - no dice. They do not work in the printer. An extensive Google search has revealed on forums and Reddit, that Brother is trying to use the old inkjet model of just forcing you to buy expensive toner replacements. The toners seem to just stop working at preset page counts regardless of how much toner is actually left. One thread indicated a page limit of 800 on the standard cartridges, which is consistent with my 799 page count. A new set of Brother toners is more than the printer itself. Unfortunately the things that made Brother printers appealable is not the case any longer. I would not recommend this printer. ... show more
