Replaced my broken door bell push button. Fitted ok but left a minor gap between wall and the unit even after tightening the screws. My door is not exposed to direct rain so I am okay but if someone have a door exposed directly to rain showers ...check fittings before you install.

so yes, i'm on the vine but bought this outright. i mean it's < $7 with tax, c'mon already. now it actually looks better than the pic. it's a muted silver (satin) and lighted. i only gave it 3 stars for installation and here's why. there are no instructions. if you're throwin' up after that comment, i get it, so lemme 'splain. this is the one of the simplest electrical devices to install. you have 2 low voltage wires that are not polarized, so attaching to either terminal will work. what needs to be mentioned is how to install if you have a multi-note chime, yeah. after removing the old button, i noticed an electrical component between the terminals. after installing the new button, only one chime would be audible. if i held the button down for an extended time, all the chimes would play out. very weird, right. so i decided to reinstall that component between the terminals and boom, everything was good again. my guess is that component is a capacitor that allows for additional current flow after a momentary press. if someone wasn't paying attention, and just tossed the old button, there would've been some disappointment. so, installer beware. . . . and that's that. in replacing the old one, it was a perfect fit for the screws - the light is almost too bright but over time they tend to dim. wish it was a led but when it eventually goes out, it won't be missed as it's rare to have a ring after dark, round here. i'm happy with this purchase and yes, it's a very good value. ... show more

I had three requirements: (1) non-rusting (2) non-yellowing (3) halfway decent looking. The doorbell housing is plastic, so non-rusting. The main problem is usually the screws, but these are coated with something that matches the doorbell and may be stainless steel as well, don't know about that. I don't think the housing will yellow because it is painted with the gray color covering up the white base. The overall appearance is not the greatest, but I have to compromise. The regular rectangular doorbells have a ledge at the bottom that retains water and the screw rusts in no time and stains the housing. It has rained and been very sunny and the doorbell still looks brand new. The water runs right off instead of getting stuck at the bottom. I had one of those rectangular doorbells and it yellowed something terrible. But I think that rectangular shape looks better in general. Regarding the backlight, I swapped in the LED board from the old doorbell. It is probably dimmer than what comes with this one, but it won't burn out. I gave this doorbell only four stars because of the lack of LED, and style only three stars because it is just kind of bloated looking. Like it was designed in the 1960s. The installation was simple because it just followed the old plan. Yes, the stuff on the inside is tiny to work with, oh well. You can actually buy the LED part separately if you want it. An update(March 10). I received a new doorbell in the mail today. It has two screws as expected. So all is well now. I bumped rating to 4 stars. I received the product the other day. Unfortunately for me there was only one screw with the doorbell (there should have been two). I am waiting to hear back from the company on getting a second screw. I installed the doorbell with old screws that I had. The doorbell works great and looks fine. ... show more

    • Very nice looking switch, once installed.

Came with no directions and for this very poor electrician that ended up causing me a problem. I thought I had made sure I connected the wires to this new switch (both the old and new are Nutone) the same way they came off the old one but when applying power back to the switch I heard a humming noise and the switch was not lit and did not work. Since an online video I watched stated that it didn't matter which wire went where (there are only two) I thought I was having a contact/grounding problem and continued struggling with the wires (wrapping electrical tape around exposed wiring) for the better part of an hour. I finally reversed the wires (DUH!) and WALLAH everything worked fine. Thank you God. :-) But for that I would have given it 5 stars. One thin piece of paper with simple instruction would have helped me greatly. In none of the other reviews I've read, did anyone state having this problem. Something unique about the way my still fairly new house is wired? Don't know, but come to think of it I doubt simple instructions would have helped. Putting all that aside, this new switch looks great with the gold look and really shines bright at night. Couldn't be happier with the end result. I do hope the light in this new one lasts longer than did the old one. Though at this price I don't mind, too much, replacing every few years if needed. ... show more
