Features

  • High-capacity hopper: Extra large, rust- and dent-proof poly hopper holds 175 lb. (3. 5 cu. Ft.) of seed, fertilizer, Ice melt and more to maximize the time spent spreading vs. Refilling the hopper. Ideal size for yards 1 acre or larger.
  • Lasting durability: All parts that come in contact with corrosive fertilizers are designed to last: heavy polyethylene hopper with stainless steel hardware, spinner shaft, and agitator. Glass-filled nylon gears are fully enclosed with nylon gearbox for additional protection.
  • Patented autoflow with spread pattern control: Brinly spreaders are designed for professional-level results. Different materials spread very differently; directional spread pattern control allows you to center and even-out the distribution pattern for a balanced application of any material. The patented autoflow technology stops material from spreading when the tractor stops - eliminating waste and burns that commonly occur with other tow-behind spreaders.
  • Easy calibration: calibration controls feature an easy-to-reach locking dial for secure rate-gate settings. Brinly provides hundreds of pre-calibrated settings to help you get to work and get the job done more accurately and efficiently.
  • Quick 30 minute assembly: includes pictorial assembly manual with fastener skin pack; each part is matched to each assembly step. Assembly video also available on Brinly YouTube channel
  • Universal hook-up: a single, heavy-duty universal Hitch Pin is included to easily attach the spreader to any rider or tractor and most any ZTR or ATV.
  • Spread width up to 12ft: High-speed, 6:1 glass-filled nylon gears provide widest spread pattern at slowest speeds.

  • High Quality Product with Great Features
Color: Black
I like the shrink wrapped hardware nuts and bolts made of high quality steel. It helped to smooth the assembly process. The instructions were less than perfect, for example when installing the flow control lever; mistakes are easily made due to poor instructions. The flow control lever will only work in one and only one of 4 possible positions. Do not get frustrated; take time to work out the correct orientation. This minor issue was overcome with a little effort and patience. A little mechanical know-how is helpful. I tried a competing product, and returned it because of a cheap plastic flow control design. The Brinly BS36BH, 175 lb., Black Tow-Behind Broadcast Spreader flow control works perfectly. The best surprise came when I learned that the materials can be aimed to the left or right side! For example, when you are spreading along a sidewalk or other path where you don't want seeds or any material to be broadcast onto the sidewalk. Excellent feature! I spread a fifty pound (50 lb.) bag of grass seed and it filled the hopper completely; the cover (provided) is required to keep the contents inside the hopper. Covers are optional accessories on some models. I rarely find products that merit a FIVE STAR. This one is the best in class for my 4,300 sq. yards of landscaped areas. ... show more

  • A great broadcast spreader at a great price
Color: Black
So, if you're reading this you probable have looked at the 1 & 2 star ratings. People complaining when a tire goes flat or bends when they hit a rock or expect the spreader to drop large clumps of fertilizer. The spreader is very well made. It would be nice if it had a grate to prevent clumps. With that said, large clumps are usually the result of old, cheap product or packaging, allowing water to cause clumps. The instructions are fairly well written, and the blister pack that all the nuts, bolts and pins are packaged helps keep everything organized. I do suggest cutting each section of the blister pack that coincides with the installation steps. I've used this spreader 3X without any real issue, except that I do lower the port opening setting about 1/2 lower than recommended because I noticed I was dropping a little too much product. The faster you go, the more (and further) fertilizer, seed or whatever will go. ... show more

  • Decent Spreader But Needs Some Mods
Color: Black
A good unit but some design flaws. The discharge handle vibrates closed. You can look back and suddenly you're not spreading anything. Had to resort to some bailing twine to keep open pressure on the handle. Also, because we were already working on it, we added a string to close the drop door too. That way, with the addition of an eye bolt, you never have to turn around to grab the handle, just pull a string at the side of the seat. Also added a soft spring to the little stirring gizmo in the bottom of the hopper. Helps to keep things moving as we used it on blood meal. Now, blood meal is a very fine powder compared to most commercial fertilizers but this spreader, with the mods mentioned, did the job quite well. Because we were side dressing hops, we had to have the choice of discharging to the side, not just the back like all the other models. Matter of fact, this is the only spreader model we could find that had the discharge pattern choice. And, just in case you wanted to know, it discharges to the right much better than the left. Keep that in mind if you have a mower deck on your tractor. We found it much easier to just take the mower deck off the Cub Cadet so we could get closer to where we actually wanted the product spread. And to get all the product out? Speed up. I know it sounds counter intuitive but it worked for me. For that last pound or two of blood meal I sped up, to like gonad smashing speed, to bounce everything around, including me, and the hopper empties itself quite well. I was able to do a job that used to take three or four days by hand in just an afternoon with breaks for dinner and a couple thunderstorms to roll through. Clean up is a breeze. A quick rinse and she looks brand new again. This spreader would have earned five stars easily if it wasn't for the discharge door vibrating closed, making you have to go back over what should have already been treated, and the hopper retaining a pound or two of product do to a to-flat bottomed hopper design. We did end up having to screen our blood meal to get any big chunks out as they clog the discharge hole quite easily. This is problem with our blood meal supplier more so than with the spreader but it does add an extra step to the process so be aware of that. Plus we had to run the discharge door a bit more open than anyone would have thought. To get the blood meal to to fall consistently, we had to run the discharge door at about a 5 - 5.5 on the little gauge. At one point the handle that holds the stop for the discharge handle worked loose. We ended up having to check it every time we stopped to refill but it only really came loose that one time so crank it down as hard as you can after you figure discharge rate and check it once in a while. Also, the inside of my hopper had a large, ugly, blemish in the plastic. While not a weak spot or a problem to get the thing to work, a bit disconcerting for an item that carries this kind of price tag. The plastic axle bearings worry me a bit. I don't think they'll last near as long as the rest of the spreader so I plan on having to replace them sometime in the future. Overall, except as noted, happy with this spreader and looking forward to keeping it working here, hopefully for many years, on the organic hop farm with more blood meal and clover seed. ... show more

  • The longer I use it the more I hate it
Color: Black
I've had this for almost 3 years. I have two acres on a hill. Between pre-emergent, lime, and fertilizer I've probably used it 20 times. I have two major problems with this, and the worst is the level set mechanism. I had to add a bungee cord to get the gate to stay open, but no matter how tightly I set the screw, it will widen with time. I.e. the beginning of my lawn may be set at "2" but by the time I'm done the metal has bent back and I'm at "3". The reason I came back here was to read other reviews to see if anyone has tips on how to fix this. The other problem is I can't stop or I'll pour a big spot of fertilizer on my lawn and burn it. I try to close the handle before I stop but if I don't, I'll end up with a burned spot. Despite what it says, the fertilizer does not stop flowing when you stop. Other things that bug me that aren't design flaws, but could be better: It's not rust-proof at all. Shouldn't be a problem, but I accidentally got a bag of wet fertilizer. Ever since then there is a ton of rust on it. It rolls over quite easily. To be fair, this is probably true of nearly all of them, but I'm going to see if I can figure out how to extend the axles. The tongue is not very rigid so when this rolls, it just bends. It does tend to leave fertilizer in the bottom. It's not a huge deal to me because I'm generally putting down a lot, but the other reviewers are correct about that. I use this with a zero-turn, so I attached an eye-bolt to the handle and use a 1/2" pvc pipe to push it closed and pull it open. This works reasonably well since the pipe is flexible enough to bend when I turn. It's not awful. But I'm definitely hoping to mod it to make it better. And try to talk myself out of getting a more expensive one. ... show more
