I'm writing this review because it took a while for me to research coffee makers with the use of less plastic materials , too much toxic chemicals , bpa, etc. This one has the stainless steel water heating area and it bubbles over into the shower head and into the stainless steel filter into the glass carafe so less plastic means less chemicals and more delicious coffee with all the benefits coffee holds. The carafe is not as fragile as ppl remarked. I like it because you can see the water reservoir. Most coffee pots are closed off chambers into a dark area and hard to clean. This one is clear see through and can be wiped with a soft cloth or bottle brush! Simple on and off. Fits beautifully on countertop. I made my first batch and it's delicious.     • Delicious Coffee but Carafe Is Fragile

So, I was deciding between this machine and a Bonavita drip machine. I decided on this one based on aesthetics, and reviews stating that it made delicious coffee. It does, I am consistently blown away by how good the coffee is from this machine. It’s super easy to use and makes 4 to 8 5oz cups of coffee in 6-8 minutes, the warming plate will keep the coffee hot for an additional 30 minutes, after brewing, before auto shut off. Note: I drink about 20oz of coffee in the morning so the 4 cup amount is perfect for me, if you don’t drink that much I would recommend a machine that will do a smaller amount, or, get a thermal container for the extra coffee. The machine looks and feels quality, but I knocked off a star because the carafe looks thin and feels fragile, though replacement carafes are now available. Also, there is a removable silicone grip on the carafe that protects your hands from the heat but it can still get pretty hot, so FYI if you have sensitive fingers. I can wholeheartedly recommend this machine as is though I feel like, if this machine nixed the hot plate and designed a thermal carafe, this would easily be a 5 star machine. Update 03.19.21: My Carafe broke today, tapped against the side of a plate while washing. I'm not upset that it broke though, I'm a little upset that replacements are not available and never really seemed to be according to other reviews. Brim recommended to another user to purchase a Bodum 32oz Carafe ($22.00) that they state works with the brewer so I ordered that today. Update 03.21.21: The Bodum carafe does not work! It’s lower than the original carafe so water and grounds splash out. Very disappointed in Brim for not having replacement carafes available, or at a reasonable price (seriously, 50 bucks?) Anyway I’m not gonna bother trying replace the carafe again, I’m just getting a new machine from a more reliable company. I changed my score to 1 star, the machine really made good coffee but was rendered virtually useless by the fragile and apparently very rare carafe. ... show more

    • It makes really good coffee

For some unknown reason (possibly demon possession or laziness, hard to say), I stopped making pour-over coffee and bought one of those pod machines. After quite a while (yeah, I’m a slow learner), I got tired of lukewarm bad coffee and started looking for an easier way to brew the nectar of the gods…pour-over coffee…and this Brim beauty solved that problem. Yes, I’ve read that the carafe is fragile (at this time, Brim doesn’t offer replacement carafes, but maybe they’ll get on that bandwagon), and doesn’t have a lid. Here’s what I do…..once the pot has taken all of about five minutes to produce eight cups, I pour it into a thermal carafe, turn off the Brim, and put the glass carafe in the sink to cool. By the time I’m coffee-infused and ready for the day, the pot and its accoutrements are all set for a good washing. Easy peasy. In place of the metal one, I use a paper filter (#4 Melita organic bamboo) which, in the bottom of the pot, doesn’t leave any grounds. My old buddy, the very sturdy Melita pot, while a smidge big for the plate, would work, so I’m not concerned about having to buy a replacement carafe. Also, in case the power goes out and I have to boil water to make pour-over (yup, you do need a gas stove to do that), Melita is waiting in the wings. There is at least one other brand with a couple more options, but this one works for me. I bought it ‘used, like new’ and so far, that’s how it’s performing. ... show more
