Got this as a like-for-like replacement for the engine on my lawnmower. (Which I abused to death.) The auto-choke, no primer, and auto-throttle make the 725EXi a lot easier to use than some other motors. The refill-only oil (no changes) also reduce required maintenance. Otherwise it’s a pretty basic engine. Not a huge amount of power, bogs down in tall grass, etc. But it works like it’s designed to and is pretty reliable. Engine shipped fully assembled; just had to bolt into place, fill with oil and gas. Started right up on the first couple pulls. Before it’s got fluids in it, you can flip it over for ease of install, but after adding oil, don’t do that. As is typical with lawnmower engines for some reason, the bolt holes are not threaded. Forcing your (probably steel) bolts into the unthreaded aluminum holes will cause them to carve their own threads. You can use a tap if you prefer. But if you have a ratchet and some lubricant, the brute force method works fine. When I purchased it, the product listing noted a 7/8” shaft, which is what I received. There’s also a 25mm shaft version out there, and both have the same 725EXi label, but different model numbers. So make sure you know which one you’re getting. The motors are otherwise the same. As I replaced a 25mm version, I also had to buy a new drive pulley, which was like $10. No biggie.

I should have paid more attention to the reviews which is why I'm writing this one even though I don't usually write reviews. Started the first time after a couple of pulls and never started again. Kickback while trying to start it nearly broke my wrist on more than one occasion even when I was watching for it. Seller said I had to take it to a B and S authorized dealer which I did. They said they had the same bad kickback but did manage to get it running after adjusting the valves - which you shouldn't have to do on a new engine. After getting it back from them it still wouldn't start. It's going in the dumpster, and I guess I'll have to try a different brand.

It runs and starts well, but does not have a throttle linkage attachment, so you cannot idle the engine, nor is there an on/off switch, it only turns off by you engaging the engine brake to abruptly stop the engine. It is not a direct replacement for the older 6hp B&S engines since it does not fit my Snapper deck, but I was able to drill new holes to attach it to the deck. The lack of ability to perform oil changes is interesting, I guess B&S has joined up with others over the idea of throw-away, just use it until it blows up, but maybe this thing will last me for the next 10 years.

This is a great little motor. Bought to replace a Briggs & Stratton that was on a Toro self propelled mower. Bolt pattern and brake cable were perfect match. Quick delivery and top notch folks to deal with. Added oil and gas and started on first pull of the pull rope. Highly recommend this seller and this motor. Just be sure to check your measurements on the motor your replacing such as the length of the pulley shaft and the diameter of the shaft. Bolt pattern, location of brake cable and position of fuel tank etc. the engine I replaced was 140cc and this one is 160cc. But everything lined up and works great.

I installed this on a 30 year old Craftsman Lawn Mower replacing a 6.75 hp. Everything bolted right up with the old hardware. I did have to thread the mounting holes for the stock bolts to thread in but there is ample room to through bolt it with 1/4 20 nuts and bolts. The output shaft is 7/8 for the full length so on some of the older engines have a stepped shaft from 7/8 to 1 inch where the drive belt pulley goes. Other than those two things it was a smooth change. oh yes it started first pull. It's shipped with no oil in it or in the box. It requires 15 ounces of 10 w 30 synthetic oil for 0 to 100 degrees F

After a month of trying to get this motor to work on a log splitter. Which was what I specified that I needed log splitter motor. I had to make some modifications to the shop for it to be able to fit down into my log splitter. I have tried to start it and it says ready start. That's a bunch of BS it is not ready to start cuz the freaking coil ain't no good. No spark, no return now what do I do with my $250 I'm out? Also the book that they send you is the stupidest book that I have ever seen in my life as far as an owner's manual. Where are the words that explain what the picture side because the pictures don't explain it to me. There's ex's and circles with lines in it so stop don't put gas in stop don't put oil in do put oil in do put gas in what the heck is a person supposed to do. I expected Briggs & Stratton to warranty my motor and send me a new coil because I have no spark on a brand new motor. And it is not ready to start as it says it i

Okay I bought a 7.25 item received at first it would not start would not get fired but located under the gas tank and under the handle you will find a little lever you have to remove the spring pull the lever to the left and it will start I'm using this on a 22-ton log splitter and it is working perfectly now
