    • So Far So Good...

So, this is my 3rd product for this purpose. So far what I do like is the ease of use. The kettle is large but not bulky. What I also like is that I just fill it up with water, place the kettle on the base, press the button for whatever tea or coffee I'm going to brew (a very nice feature to have those temps pre-set) and then hit the start button. At any time either before or during the heating cycle I can hit the "Keep Warm" button and it will keep the kettle at the set temperature for 20 min. I do also like that the base beeps 3 times when the water is at the temperature you wanted. The lid also opens with what Breville calls a "Soft Opening Lid" which is nice since it does open up smoothly and close easily. Once I'm done and have cleaned the kettle, I place it back on the base and the base lights up at the previous setting, but then just shuts off if you don't press any buttons in about 30 seconds. Then I just push the whole unit back into the corner of the counter top. It also has a "filter" that is a nice thin metal screen that slides into a slot in the front of the kettle where the spout is--so that stops any sediment or scale from hard water from entering your cup. This is also a higher volume kettle so you can get a couple of large cups out of every brew. The only thing I don't like is that it's difficult to clean. I have large hands, and I can't get my hand inside to dry it and getting a sponge with a handle inside to clean the inner surfaces and rinse them is not easy. Plus, the top is a "soft" opening lid and doesn't disconnect for cleaning, so that's a challenge. Other than the issues with cleaning it's been great so far. Even when the pot is at the maximum fill line and set to boil at 212 degrees, it doesn't take long for it to get there. Now I just hope that this will last the 10+ years that my Breville coffee grinder and espresso machine have lasted! I've still given it 4/5 stars with only one star lost due to the issues with cleaning. I'm not a coffee snob, so I have used this kettle for a pour-over and it works just fine. I had a Cuisinart gooseneck where the base failed after 6 months and a Fellow Stagg gooseneck that worked good, but didn't beep when it got to temperature, the base didn't shut off automatically, and it poured way too slowly. ... show more

I love the pot. It is quiet, heats fast and works beautifully. But it's not blue. It's clearly black. The box says it should be blue.. well I'm keeping it cause it's a great machine.

I have had this tea kettle for a few months now. Overall, I am satisfied with it. It heats water quick enough, and the "Keep Warm" feature works to hold the temperature steady for a period of time. I like the ability to choose the temp based on the type of tea I am brewing. It is sturdy and appears to be well constructed. It is heavy, so it would not be a good choice with someone with a frail grasp, or limited strength. There are not lights inside, so it is very difficult to see the water level in the viewing window. The soft open lid is inconsistent. Sometimes it opens nicely, sometimes it requires a few pushes of the button to get it open. I give it a four star rating. ... show more

While I purchased the "stainless steel" kettle, what was sent turned out to be a charcoal grey which I've now found is the "smoked hickory" color. It works with my other appliances since it's still in the grey family, but not what I purchased. I'd looked at this kettle before because I wanted a nicer high-end looking appliance, but couldn't jsutify the cost. But, after burning thru 2 Mr. Coffee pots and 2 water kettles in the last 6 years, I thought, I'm going to splurge and it better last! It seems like very nice quality - I believe the whole kettle is stainless (one review said it was plastic except for the handle/spout which I don't think is true), and it's got good weight to it. It is hard to see the water level, as others have noted, unless you have really bright lighting. The lid is soft-open with a button on the handle. The spout is wide enough to pour a lot of water quickly, which is good for me (I use this as a hot water kettle only to make my horses/dogs food into a mash), no bad back-splashing or drips. The base lights up and will beep when started and when done heating. Overall, very happy with my purchase so far. I will update if something goes sour! ... show more

I love the fit and finish of this kettle. It feels like quality through and through. From the study handle and it's knuckle guard to it's nicely finished brushed outside. It fits in the Breville family well. The temperature settings are great, I actually pick the right temp for my tea now! My biggest complaint is the window - it's very difficult to see through that blue window. I appreciate it's BPA free, but it would be just as handy to have no window at all and put all the markers inside the kettle. The keep warm is a little aggressive compared to my old kettle. It really tries to keep the exact temp you set, even if you forgot about it. It could reasonably drop 20° rather than spin up every few seconds. Is it worth the MSRP? Probably not.
