I'm still new to trying to score pretty patterns, but this device give me encouragement that one day I might get there. It's very precise and even when I just make one big cut, I don't have my bread splitting in other places now. You have to assemble it yourself, so be careful while doing that. But other than that it's easy to use, the blade is tucked away when not in use, and there's lot so replacement blades if needed. My bread game is now upleveled a little bit.

When you fiddle around trying to get the blade in for a good 25 min. You finally got it in it does not raise up. So how are you supposed to use it? It’s cheaply made. A piece of garbage. Returning!!!! Don’t waste 30 min like I did only to find it still does not work!

This bread lame works exactly as expected and has a nice compact size It was easy to assemble without referring to the included booklet. The booklet does provide scoring designs with indicators of depth to score. The blades are sharp and I really like the design where the blade retracts!

For years I have been using a very sharp knife instead of a bread lame. I just didn't realize that it would make a difference. With this handy compact bread lame, I can make fancy slashes that really improve the look of my bread. This thing is basically a holder for a double edged razor blade. You retract the blade by using the slider button to keep it safe when you aren't using it. I'm not sure if it is dishwasher safe, so I carefully swish it in some hot soapy water and rinse under running water. The magnet in the end opposite the blade is handy to hang it so it dries quickly. The unit comes in a small plastic storage case and has five blades that should last a long time. One note, be really careful when installing a blade.
