Bracepost back brace comes with two packs that can be used either hot or cold. You also have the option of using the brace with or without the ice/heat packs. I used the brace with an ice pack that I placed in the freezer for a couple of hours. If you prefer heat, you can heat the pack in the microwave to warm it up. This back brace is well constructed. The brace is comfortable and the large fits me perfectly. The back brace is made from 45% polyester, 35% Neoprene, 13% Nylon and 7% PVC. PVC is a sturdy vinyl material. The vinyl strips in the back have lumbar plates inside of them to provide back support. This is a nice addition. The belt felt more supportive because of the lumbar plates. With all of its parts, the belt felt good on. The back brace is soft to the touch. It feels really nice on. It did not irritate my skin, or feel stiff or awkward on. I would describe the material used to make this belt as being supportive, durable, flexible and sturdy. The brace is designed to offer solid support and comfort. The design is the right balance of comfort to support. The brace closes by fastening Velcro onto a baby soft wool that feels like a high-quality Merino wool. The side panels of the back brace are constructed from a nylon blend. Those side panels are very stretchy. They act similar to a rubber band when pulled, stretching and snapping back into place with ease. The side panels are flexible enough to stretch to conform to the shape of your specific body shape, which provides for a more customized personal fit. The closures contain enough Velcro material for you to be able to adjust the belt to obtain a comfortable fit for you. There are two long Velcro flaps on both sides of the brace that measure 9 inches on either side. I really like when the brace contains enough material for you to be able to really adjust the fit. After you have closed the Velcro straps, you pull on the outer compression band to achieve the right level of back support for you. These details are all well thought out and well executed. These details enhance the individualized fit, support and level of compression that you can obtain from this belt. I was mostly interested in using this back brace for cold therapy to help reduce lower back pain when I over-exert my back muscles. I wear this belt for 20 minutes with the ice packs. That is enough time to reduce inflammation and pain in my lower back. My back definitely feels better after I use this with ice. The reduction in pain is noticeable immediately. Because I also suffer from chronic back pain, I intend to incorporate both heat and ice into a regular routine, alternating between the two to help me manage my lower back pain. This is a very well constructed back brace. I have other belts, but the others do not allow me to incorporate ice and heat therapy to reduce inflammation. They also do not have the lumbar plates for additional back support. This is a very well thought out back brace that can be used to help your sore muscles recover from intense exercise, or anytime when you over-exert your back muscles, and for therapy for chronic back pain. ... show more

    • Effective support and comfort
On items like this, I review what can’t be seen in the photos or in a video: Effectiveness and comfort. That said, the photos included in the item listing are accurately representative of how the brace fits, and what is included. But does it do what it says it will do? First, a bit of background. I am 5’6” with a compressed spine that has lost nearly 2.5” of length as a result of arthritis and osteoporosis. There are days where this results in pain (overuse of back muscles, too much stooping or bending, rainy days esp in a row, and even too much sedentary activity). I weigh about 150 (which used to be a decent weight before losing 2.5” of height. Sigh.) and ordered the medium size, for additional reference. Ergo, the sizing chart provided in the listing is accurate, based on my ordering experience and my body type (I don’t carry much weight in the abdomen or in my middle). That said, I wholeheartedly affirm how, at this price point, this back brace offers solid value as well as performance that it promises to deliver. 1) It is comfortable without feeling like a girdle lol. I am able to engage in routine, regular activity while wearing this. (Loading a dishwasher, walking around the yard and even raking some leaves, cleaning up the garage with my husband, and even vacuuming with a cordless stick vacuum, as a few examples.) 2) The heat and cold pads also help reduce swelling and pain, and keep the heat or cold in place so the area you are targeting gets consistent heat or cold without much or any shifting. I use the old physical education teacher or trainer advice of using heat first, then ice, to accomplish even better relief. Also, it is simple to get the pads in and out of the brace — if you take it off and put it back on again. That’s fine by me bc the cold pack can actually get a bit too cold (like any cold pack …not just the one that comes with this brace). I don’t mind taking the brace off for a bit before/while I switch pads. 3) I did not have issues with any parts of this brace sticking to or damaging the cotton sweatshirt I was wearing while using this brace. I mention this bc I’ve had a couple braces that really did a number on my clothing…and hence why I was in the market for replacing them with something else in the first place. In all, this is an effective brace for comfort and support that helps to alleviate pain and inflammation, along with reducing overuse or overstrain of your back — esp when overuse or overstrain may spike discomfort in the first place. The only thing I cannot speak to with any fluency is how this brace would allow one to participate in multiple sports. I can speak only to how I was able to take a 1.5 mile brisk walk while wearing this. Not sure how this brace would work while golfing or jogging or engaging in any contact sports. Hopefully others can speak to this, as I conclude here that this brace does what it pledges to do. I wholeheartedly affirm that, at this price point, this back brace offers solid value and performance to this average Jo(sephine;). I am pleased that I have this to help me with occasional, typical back discomfort. ... show more

This brace is very supportive. I really like the hot/cold packs that come with it! The only thing I don't like about the brace is its size. It does hinder mobility a bit, but that is what some people need. Works well when doing heavy lifting, it ensures you lift with your knees and not your back. It was great during a move! ... show more
