This can cause you to raise your thigh when you walk, as though climbing stairs (steppage gait), to help your foot clear the floor. I’ve been suffering from foot drop + ankle instability for years now, and I’ve tried literally every orthopedic device recommended by my doctors and physical rehab trainers. But the AFO S-Type (BraceOn) is a GAME CHANGER!! To be worn with a shoe, fits with most shoes and boots I’ve paired it with, maximum comfortability, and the padded calf cuff and straps significantly helps prevent irritation and sore spots experienced with other previously tried products. The biggest difference I’ve noticed since wearing the BraceOn AFO is being able to walk up stairs without tripping over my dropped foot (my office has one elevator that never works so this is a life saver!). I keep hoping that I will find a light brace that will help with my drop foot and neuropathy. I only had to take one look and know that this brace was not going to help. Why? 1. The very, very narrow plate for the bottom of the foot will cut into the sides of wide and/or swollen feet. 2. The brace arrived with no instructions except for the lines on the bottom of the toe for cutting. 3. Cutting will not be easy without heavy scissors or clippers and, after cutting the edges will have to be sanded to avoid cuts when worn. 4. The bottom plate is smooth, hard plastic. It slides in socks, on carpet...it slides. 5. The bottom strap is a loose velcro strip with a small round velcro sticky glue tab for attaching to the brace. It really doesn't do much to brace the leg and foot. It is just kind of there. Oddly, the top part brace that fits the calf is well padded and comfortable. The velcro is extra-long and it is easy to attach. I have tried a lot of braces and wraps and I could immediately see that the foot plate would be the cause of multiple problems I didn't even attempt to cut or wear it. I didn't want to end up on the floor because of the slick plate going out from under me. If this brace works for you, great. But it is not for me. Returned. . ... show more

    • Difficult to use, painful arch, not for me

I had high hopes, but this is not for me. The arch hit very wrong. The straps are very hard to get on and off. I tried to wear it, and I had to take it off after a short period of time. It was so painful. The conept of not sizing a brace, then putting an arch in it, is less than ideal. The placement of the ankle strap didn't work for me at all, and now I am stuck with the brace because I had to trim it to get it into my shoe. I would avoid especially if you are under a size 8 and have hemiparesis or significant weaknesses in your leg/foot. ... show more
