Description

Incredibly easy to use and designed with advanced material discrimination features, the Discovery 1100 metal detector by Bounty Hunter is great for finding coins, metals, relics and more. I took a risk on this one and he LOVES it. He has found things more than 12" below ground. The metal content on the display seems to be accurate. Just last week he dug up a cast iron pot that looks to date back to the Civil War era. We live in an area rich on history, so we're sure to find more! I dropped my keys in my attic while installing fiberglass batt insulation. After panicking when I realized I had lost the only copies of a few important keys, I purchased this detector to find them. After a couple of evenings of searching, I found them!!! This is a decent, functional, and inexpensive unit that served my needs. There are better, more feature rich options available, but they do cost considerably more. For my needs, this was the perfect price/performance point. Pros: - It beeps when metal is near.... yay! Bought this for my 10 year old son and he loves it. Its very light so easily usable for children, but has some bells and whistles for them as they get more into it. I find myself borrowing it from my son and using it as well. Very sturdy, have used it in a few inches of water works well. I gave this to my Husband as a gift a year or so ago. He takes great pleasure in picking up any unexpected found loose change from the ground whenever he notices it in parking lots and such. So I thought I had found a gift he would enjoy using in his spare time for fun in local parks etc. He and his brother tried to use it and called it 'garbage' I was very sad that the gift wasn't a hit. I don't know if they were using it correctly or not, but I would think two grown intelligent men probably did use it correctly. I thought I had given this great thoughtful gift only to be disappointed. Oh well, back to the drawing board.... jWhy are the men in my life so difficult to shop for?? As soon as item came we had to put it together not hard at all, once it was together read booklet as to how it worked and what sound beep to look for then we were off. OHHH two 9Volt batteries required no big deal. I bought this gadget as a gift for my father for Christmas. He recently retired and moved to the beach and was looking for a new hobby. He popped in two 9v batteries and was on his way. It is lightweight and easy to use. He really loves it. The only drawback is that is did not come with headphones and with the waves crashing, it can be hard to hear the beeps, but it appears that any standard headphones can probably be used with it. ... show more

I bought this so my little niece and I could go treasure hunting. It works well, though isn't very spot on about what kind of metal it is detecting or the depth of the metal in the ground. I haven't found anything particularly valuable... Yet. We went to a beach along the river because sand is so much easier to dig in than regular soil and mostly we found a bunch of discarded pieces of aluminum foil, which I convinced my niece were the remnants of a pirate's burrito wrapper, so at least she thought we found a treasure. ... show more
