Summary: Previously reviewed some larger, higher end solar panels (100W or larger), especially the newer 9BB/10BB/12BB panels. The common size of the panels I have reviewed is 100W. Will be comparing those offerings to this 100W 16BB offering by BOUGERV. Observations: BOUGERV is a specialty RV company, with a good product line offering in the PhotoVoltaic area. I have reviewed ten (10) of their products, with five (5) solar panels, the newest being the CIGS portable / folding model. This 16BB offering is one of the first in this size (previously 12BB was the highest). BIFACIAL DISCUSSION: This technology has finally reached the affordable price point, under $1.00/watt in the 100W size. Watched a good YouTube video on different orientation methods / ways, the most interesting being the faces are East-West. Very interesting how technology changes forces the re-evaluation of existing methods, e.g. mono-facial being oriented directly toward the sun. 9/10/12/16BB DISCUSSION: BB stands for Bus Bars. What's the difference, and why all the recent fuss about having more "BBs"? Originally, solar panels started with 5BB, and over the past several years, the number of BBs has increased. Lots of comparisons and tutorials on understanding the difference, bottom line, having more "bus-bars", allows the solar cell to be physically smaller; which results in more efficiency because of less resistance, and also longer durability and longevity to the solar panel as a whole. Previously reviewed the BougeRV 200W 9BB panel, and that one had a noticeable increase in performance. OTHER PANELS: The 200W fixed by BOUGERV is the heaviest at 32 pounds; with the 200W ATEM fixed panels next heaviest at 22 pounds (including a small MPPT controller, others are panels only). The 200W ROCKPALS is the most expensive, but features dual 18/36-volt outputs, via Anderson PowerPole (APP) connectors, and weighs 18.3 lbs. The Progeny 120W has APP connectors, and weighs slightly less than the ALLPOWERS at 9.2 pounds. The 100W BougeRV is the lowest weight, and has XT60 connectors (very heavy duty, 60A), and weighs 10.4 lbs. The ATEM features 50A APP connectors. TESTING SETUP: I have these panels interconnected in 36-volt pairs (two 18-volt in series), which are fed to a MPPT charge controller, into a 24-volt AGM battery bank. Observations (PANELS): The one thing I really like about the folding hard panel, is that they do not sag. The 200W ATEM is a similar hard folding panel. The 120W BOGUERV Is a semi-hard, suitcase style as well. One other benefit is that those folders feature a thick flexible wire between the two panels, whereas the others have a thin wire, which typically goes across the joint, which makes it subject to damage (except the BougeRV, which has the handles at the top vs. the sides). One other heavy duty feature is the output cables and connectors, which are 10-12 AWG, and MC4 (standard solar) connectors. The worst design is the typical 5.5x2.1mm DC connector, which limits the output current for a 100W panel (less would be okay, but still not ideal). Recommendation: When it comes to PV/Solar panels, there are polycrystalline and monocrystalline; poly is lower cost but less efficient, and mono is more expensive, but also more efficient. For fixed (home) panels, the general cost is $1/Watt for fixed panels; and $2.00/watt for folding panels. Pros: Newest 16BB technology, and bi-facial too. Cons: Cost, at $1.10/watt, as compared to a low of about $0.65/wall (including bi-facials). Conclusion: At $110 for a 100W panel ($1.10/watt), rating this one 5 stars (-cost, +16BB, +Bi-Facial). BOUGERV is a good company to look into if you want to have most of your products from a single source (specialty manufacturing).

Solid. Appears to be hand assembled, which is fine. Several mounting holes in the frame. I don't yet have the right connectors to hook it up, but my multimeter indicates this panel outputs 27.4V when exposed to direct sunlight.

This a a great panel for the price. I’ve tested this on a somewhat smoky and cloudy day with direct sunlight and it peaked at above 80w. That’s a great number considering the factors working against it. The quality appears to be solid and the built in Anderson style plugs makes hooking it up to a power source relatively easy. It has multiple mounting points if you want to mount it permanently as well. Great value for an efficient compact solar panel.

The picture shows this product on top of another 100 watt panel of another design so you can see the size difference. It isn’t a huge decrease in size but definitely noticeable. This type of bifacial design can provide a little more efficiency than a traditional panel but only if positioned so that ambient light can strike the rear of the panel. This comes with preinstalled MC4 connectors which work great. Plugging it into my solar aeration system worked immediately. The panel frame is sturdy, and the glass seems to be tough enough.
