🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The product analyzed here is a refurbished car head unit. It's generally been viewed in a positive light, delivering good sound and feature performance for the price point. However, some users have noted that aspects such as brightness and volume control could be better. Another common concern is the inconsistent Bluetooth function which has been noted to be spotty for some users.

Pros

  • 🎵 Good sound quality and features for price.
  • 🔌 Reliable Apple CarPlay function (does not work via Bluetooth).
  • 💡 Responsive touch function.
  • 🚀 Quick Bluetooth connectivity.
  • 🧩 Intuitive UI and easy to use device interface.

Cons

  • 🚦 Inconsistent Bluetooth performance.
  • 💀 Initial quality concerns with missing parts and power failures for some units.
  • ☀️ Screen brightness levels may not be adequate.
  • 🔊 Volume control design - tiny rocker instead of a knob.
  • 🔁 Apple Carplay only works when the phone is plugged into the system, not wireless.

Should I Buy It?

If you are on a budget and are looking for a car head unit that delivers on sound and features, the refurbished unit discussed here may be a viable choice. However, be aware of the possible Bluetooth connectivity concerns and ensure that the brightness levels are adequate for your needs. You may have to compromise on some features like volume control design and wireless Apple CarPlay due to its price range. As customary with any refurbished product, the quality assurance may be inconsistent, meaning it might be a bit of a gamble.

  • Great bang for the buck
Style: 7" CarPlay/Android Auto
For the price this is a decent stereo. I had to buy an interface for my factory installed JBL amp but this thing sounds and works great. To use CarPlay you have to use a usb cable but I don’t mind. I have bluetooth CarPlay in another vehicle and it screws up constantly and I have to use a cable. Wired it is very stable. Love having Waze up while driving. Also it is installed in a convertible, and with the top down on the interstate I can talk on the phone with no problem. I was very impressed. ... show more

  • Perfect
Style: 7" CarPlay/Android Auto
This product is worth every penny. The only problem i had, which im sure is rarely the case, is that I had to take out the screen to peel off the front plastic warning label. This is because the tab to peel it off the warnings was underneath the shell, but that was easy, all it took was a PH0 screwdriver. NOTE: If this happens to you, UNSCREW THE SIDES to take off the front plate, then carefully unscrew the top and push the screen gently from the top. If you unscrew from the top first, the screen might fall back and break [Edit to post] i have seen a few reviews saying that it does not have android auto... some android devices do not have the ability to use android auto. Also android auto only works over a cable, just like the apple car play. Some phones that I know that work are the Samsung Note 9 (and newer), the Samsung A12, and the Samsung Galaxy 9 (and newer)... make sure you look up if your device is compatible and if so, download the android auto app ... show more

  • Great budget AA unit
Style: 7" CarPlay/Android Auto with Camera
This is a great budget option to add Android Auto or Car Play to an older car. The unit itself is clean and doesn't look out of place even in an older car. The sound quality is great for the price. My GMT800 has a small factory amp and Bose speakers, and this unit really brought them to life. It also has a full equalizer and decent presets. The touch screen is responsive and the UI layout is easy to navigate. Android Auto function has been flawless except that you can't manipulate Maps on your phone after it's connected, you are forced to use the unit's touch screen. Not a big deal, but using Maps is much faster and easier on the phone. The workaround is simply to set up your Maps before plugging in. Backup camera integration was very easy. The camera that came with this is mediocre. The camera quality is very low resolution. It's better than nothing but I will be upgrading to a better camera in the near future. The only downside is that neither of the USB connections, either AA or normal USB charge, are capable of fast charging. I've found that when using AA, the charging can't even keep up with the phone use and you'll slowly lose charge. ... show more

  • Disappointed
Style: 7" CarPlay/Android Auto
Bought this on March 4th 2022 since it seemed to pack a good deal of features and wattage for my speakers and sub. I replaced my factory JBL head unit that came with my 2006 Corolla commuter car. It was a nice upgraded factory system but it was outdated and I needed hands free, maps, and features you get in new head units. Was happy with it at 1st but then it had a problem with the Apple CarPlay USB connection. Wasted a bunch of time troubleshooting with BOSS to tell me my head unit was defective which I clearly knew. Luckily it was in warranty. I opted for the advanced replacement so I could get my problem fixed asap. Got the replacement unit, installed it and tested. Everything worked well until last month. Constant CarPlay disconnects. Tried different USB A to USB C cables and still same result. I know it’s not my phone (iPhone 15 Pro Max w/iOS 18.x) because I have a Kenwood head unit in my 2007 Z51 Corvette and it works flawlessly with the same cable and phone. It’s going on 6 years old now BTW. Now my BOSS is out of warranty and I have a head unit that doesn’t work for the reason I bought it for. I should have just bought another Kenwood since now I’m out more money for trying to cheap out for my commuter car. I haven’t had other issues with volume and screen related stuff others have described but I can attest to the Mic echo when connected via CarPlay. Many people complained about the echo when having conversations. Do yourself a favor…Pay more and cry once. I won’t be purchasing BOSS products ever again. ... show more

Style: 7" CarPlay/Android Auto with Camera
got this for my son to upgrade in his honda accord. got an open box that appears to have been never used. works as i hoped . seems high quality . the included camera on the other hand?? MEH. it's low res. nothing special but it's part of the package. sound is quite good , touch screen is responsive and bright. it felt super light so i was concerned it would be crappy sounding but not so. well well worth the little it costs. ... show more

  • Perfect for the price, love android Auto
Style: 7" CarPlay/Android Auto with Camera
It works great i installed it on my 2000 Lexus ls400. The screen is responsive. The frame rate does suck especially when you're scrolling through Spotify. But I've never seen a radio that didn't lag, so i won't even blame it for that. Android auto works fantastic. (If it's not working for you, or it keeps saying you need to have the parking brake on, change the wire you're using. I thought my radio was broken. But then i switched to the OEM charging wire that came with my phone instead of the aftermarket one i had, and android auto worked instantly. Do not use cheap wires with android auto. I have a oneplus 9) So yeah pretty great, the screen is very bright. The sound equalizing does the job. And the resolution of the screen does suck, but against it's $300, so i don't expect it to be phenomenal. Overall i got exactly what I paid for and i love it. And the connections is flawless, their is almost no delay at all when i skip a track or pause, which shocked me. ... show more

  • Great product for a great price
Style: 7" CarPlay/Android Auto with Camera
Perfect fit in 2004 mustang with the Mach 460 stereo Plenty of power and I hardly ever turn up the subwoofer because it just sounds great! Finding the backup light wire was a little tricky but the internet was forthcoming with plenty of info about that! Now I have a backup camera that automatically turns on in reverse! ... show more
