🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The product analyzed here is a refurbished car head unit. It's generally been viewed in a positive light, delivering good sound and feature performance for the price point. However, some users have noted that aspects such as brightness and volume control could be better. Another common concern is the inconsistent Bluetooth function which has been noted to be spotty for some users.

Pros

  • 🎵 Good sound quality and features for price.
  • 🔌 Reliable Apple CarPlay function (does not work via Bluetooth).
  • 💡 Responsive touch function.
  • 🚀 Quick Bluetooth connectivity.
  • 🧩 Intuitive UI and easy to use device interface.

Cons

  • 🚦 Inconsistent Bluetooth performance.
  • 💀 Initial quality concerns with missing parts and power failures for some units.
  • ☀️ Screen brightness levels may not be adequate.
  • 🔊 Volume control design - tiny rocker instead of a knob.
  • 🔁 Apple Carplay only works when the phone is plugged into the system, not wireless.

Should I Buy It?

If you are on a budget and are looking for a car head unit that delivers on sound and features, the refurbished unit discussed here may be a viable choice. However, be aware of the possible Bluetooth connectivity concerns and ensure that the brightness levels are adequate for your needs. You may have to compromise on some features like volume control design and wireless Apple CarPlay due to its price range. As customary with any refurbished product, the quality assurance may be inconsistent, meaning it might be a bit of a gamble.

  • Finally! A great bare-bones Carplay solution!
I've been through 2 other off-brand Carplay headunits, and while they generally worked and sounded good, there were always problems with details, such as lousy manuals that made it nearly impossible to get proper integration with SWC and my factory backup cam. They also had horrendous looking and confusing default interfaces, as well as intermittent Carplay connectivity and other random, annoying issues. This Boss headunit solves all those issues. Great manual with plenty of information about wiring and UI controls, simple startup interface with a useful tuner, and a consistent CarPlay connection. And there's an added Boss app to get to the tuner/settings directly inside of Carplay. Nothing fancy, but everything works as expected. No frills - as it should be. ... show more

  • Great bang for the buck
For the price this is a decent stereo. I had to buy an interface for my factory installed JBL amp but this thing sounds and works great. To use CarPlay you have to use a usb cable but I don’t mind. I have bluetooth CarPlay in another vehicle and it screws up constantly and I have to use a cable. Wired it is very stable. Love having Waze up while driving. Also it is installed in a convertible, and with the top down on the interstate I can talk on the phone with no problem. I was very impressed. ... show more

  • Bang for Buck
The first refurbished unit was missing the mic mount and the head unit lasted 30 minutes before it powered off and failed to turn back on. I verified the connections and fuses and everything was fine. I returned it back to Amazon and got a second refurbished unit. This time all parts are in the box and so far the unit has been working great. Car play auto works great. It does not support wireless car play. The UI is pretty basic. Nothing fancy or anything. Biggest gripe I have the unit is it's not really bright even if it's set to max. You can still see what's on the screen but for me it's not bright enough compared to my last unit. The second one is the volume control. I prefer a knob but that's like a extra $100 feature. The volume rocker is tiny and is on the very edge of my unit. The mounting bracket for my unit sticks out a wee bit where I can only press the rockers sort of at a angle. All and all, for less than $150(refurb) it's a good unit over stock. ... show more

  • Disappointed
Bought this on March 4th 2022 since it seemed to pack a good deal of features and wattage for my speakers and sub. I replaced my factory JBL head unit that came with my 2006 Corolla commuter car. It was a nice upgraded factory system but it was outdated and I needed hands free, maps, and features you get in new head units. Was happy with it at 1st but then it had a problem with the Apple CarPlay USB connection. Wasted a bunch of time troubleshooting with BOSS to tell me my head unit was defective which I clearly knew. Luckily it was in warranty. I opted for the advanced replacement so I could get my problem fixed asap. Got the replacement unit, installed it and tested. Everything worked well until last month. Constant CarPlay disconnects. Tried different USB A to USB C cables and still same result. I know it’s not my phone (iPhone 15 Pro Max w/iOS 18.x) because I have a Kenwood head unit in my 2007 Z51 Corvette and it works flawlessly with the same cable and phone. It’s going on 6 years old now BTW. Now my BOSS is out of warranty and I have a head unit that doesn’t work for the reason I bought it for. I should have just bought another Kenwood since now I’m out more money for trying to cheap out for my commuter car. I haven’t had other issues with volume and screen related stuff others have described but I can attest to the Mic echo when connected via CarPlay. Many people complained about the echo when having conversations. Do yourself a favor…Pay more and cry once. I won’t be purchasing BOSS products ever again. ... show more

  • Great radio upgrade…..but one con for me
Very responsive and sounds great, great features and videos look great and sound awesome. I don’t have the rear view camera hooked up but I may purchase a camera down the road. The only con for me is talking while in Apple play. I hear the same from everyone about this and it is that you won’t have a problem but the caller will hear there echo which will be annoying for them but if you call or get a call make sure you do it in Bluetooth without being hooked in to Apple play and they will not have an echo. I don’t understand and I wish there was settings so you could fix this because sometimes you may want to talk to someone while you are using the gps in Apple play but I couldn’t find that setting to fix it so I will live with it. More expensive head units have settings for the mic but this one does not and I heard it could be fixed if you could update the Apple play but you can’t so before you purchase you may want to think about if this is important to you but besides that this is a very nice budget car stereo and it is still worth the money ... show more

  • Nice head unit, Carplay works well
Wanted to take out the factory CD player in a Honda Ridgeline and put in something with CarPlay. This was advertised as "refurbished", but it appears to be brand new as far as I can tell. Great value!
