  • Great little hot water heater!
Size: 7 Gallon Pattern Name: Water Heater
This is my 3rd time purchasing these tanks... I bought one 2 years ago so I could use it with my off grid solar.. 2 years it's been and it's still going strong, so I decided to buy 2 more.. 1 to replace my 40 gallon electric hot water heater and another for a spare ( prepping)... I don't know what some people are complaining about on the few bad reviews, I mean don't you people have any brains or common sense?.. it's a 7 gallon hot water heater, you can't expect a 20 minute hot shower but I can get a 10 to 12 minute shower and I like pretty warm showers... Plus on top of that it uses less than 1\3 of the electric my 40 gallon heater did, plus I can run it on solar or a small generator, it takes about 35 minutes to fully recover, and seems well built and judging from the other one I put in 2 years ago seems quite reliable.. My only complaint is I bought them returned.. one was brand new and never installed so I put that one in my preps.. the other however was installed by a sloppy plumber who marked it up with pipe dope and gouged it quite a bit.. I installed that one, it works great but should've been less than 204.00 in my opinion which was marked as like new.. but anyways no fault of the hot water heater, just incompetent people, but I saved 160 dollars buying 2 of them though so I can live with it having a few marks back in a closet where no one can see it anyways... I highly recommend these water heaters from having one for over 2 years now and it has been 100% problem free and I have 2 of them operating in my home, one does my downstairs bathroom and kitchen and the other does my upstairs bathroom and laundry room.. the money you'll save on electric over the life of the tank will pay for itself... Oh and by the way these small tanks heat the water up way way hotter than a regular hot water tank, so you use way less hot water taking a shower, that's way I can get a 10 to 12 minute shower, you could never hold your hand under straight hot water coming from these.. a regular hot water tank heats the water to 120 degrees where as these small tanks heat water to 140 to 160.. And they are really well insulated too will keep water hot for hours before needing to cycle on.. ... show more

  • Great product Easy install Great product Easy install
Size: 4 Gallon Pattern Name: Water Heater
So far it’s working great, I mounted it in the crawl space under the kitchen sink and put it inline with the hot water pipe that feeds the kitchen sink. No more wasting water during a long wait for the hot water to get there. I timed it and I’m now getting hot water in 6 seconds. This is the 4 gallon but the 2.5 would probably have been big enough. I added a PVC pipe to the release valve on top and a plastic tub underneath just in case the pressure valve ever does a release. ... show more

  • It does the job and She's HAPPY!
Size: 2.5 Gallon Pattern Name: Water Heater
We bought a ranch house recently with a crawl space and 60+ feet of distance from the tankless hot water heater at one end of the house to the master bathroom. It takes 1 and a half minutes for hot water to start flowing from the bathroom sink tap after the tap is turned on. Same for the guest bathroom across the hall). Not fun for the wife when she wants hot water and wants it immediately to use for washing her face and hands. And a waste of water and energy as well. I did the research and this water heater seemed to fit the bill for our needs and situation. I picked up a water tap splitter and 2 hoses from HD and was delighted to have installation go smoothly and problem free - mostly. It took a bit of investigation to decide on drilling a hole at the bottom side of the sink cabinet and running a short extension cord from the receptacle on the wall beside the sink to the heater. The other option was to run an electrical cable into the sink cabinet and install a receptacle there for the heater plug. Which would have required drilling a hole through the cabinet base and the ceramic tile floor. My wife was OK with using the side receptacle. The receptacle is near the side edge of the cabinet and the extension cord runs along the edge of the back of the cabinet and wall to the bottom so visually it does not look out of place. Oh, and the extension cord plug is the flat kind so that helps it to blend in (not stick out like a normal electrical plug). Left the water heater setting at the Normal setting on the dial and hot water (111 degrees F.) starts flowing as soon as the water that is the line between the water heater and the tap clears (2-3 seconds). We find the normal setting is hot enough for us to use as is. Leaving the hot water tap FULL OPEN results in hot water flowing for 2 minutes, with it slowly getting less hot over that period of time towards the last 30 seconds to a minute. Which works for our needs. You could increase the hot water temperature and mix cold water to lengthen the time I suppose, but for washing our face and/or hands, the two minutes is sufficient. The other option is to open the tap less than half way and that would allow for more time as well. Overall, very pleased with this heater and plan to order another one for the guest bathroom. Off course Murphy's Law did visit me during installation. The disconnected hot water shut off valve started every so slowly to leak - a few drops over the course of several hours. The seal had deteriorated. (41 year old house). Fixing that was much more trouble than installing the hot water tank. But after several trips and tries of different valves I finally managed to take care of that problem. ... show more

  • Happy but semi-disposable
Size: 2.5 Gallon Pattern Name: Water Heater
I have been through two of these. First one purchased in Feb 2023. Worked great until I noticed leak originating from seam in plastic cover. Technically the shell can be opened but dense foam filling exceeded my enthusiasm to pursue a repair. I bought a same model replacement mostly because I wanted the install to be a swap out/in affair. So as long as a two and a half year life seems reasonable to you, this unit is fine. Works great. Quiet, quick. Instant hot water in the kitchen has saved a ton of water previously waiting for heat to arrive. By the way, I live in Southern California known for hard water and I did no maintenance on my first unit. Your experience may be different. Despite all the above, just get one of these if you have areas with delayed hot water. You will be pleased daily. ... show more

  • Great Improvement To My Kitchen. Just Be Sure To Check The Size
Size: 4 Gallon Pattern Name: Water Heater
This 4 gallon mini-tank heater is perfect for my kitchen. The total cost for the tank and the installation was about $325.00—higher in my case because the tank did not quite fit under the sink and I had to move it to a cabinet 6 feet away, on the other side of the dishwasher. This added the cost of two 6 foot hoses, two brass connectors, and a 12 guage extension cord. The normal cost would be under $300. I opted to abandon the hot water at the sink and run only cold water into the mini-tank. This way, running hot water in the sink never impacts my gas water heater. The downside is that I can run out of hot water at the sink, if I use too much at once, but the upside is that it saves a lot more energy and water. By turning up the temperature on the Bosch to ¾, I have eliminated the chance of running out for my own needs. My sink is located about 30 feet from my water heater, which is actually more like 40’ of piping. It was taking a good 30 seconds to get hot water every time, and I started collecting the 2 gallons of wasted cold water for my outdoor garden. Now the hot is basically instant. Because of the unusual 6’ distance, it takes one second to get hot water. If it were under the sink it would be quicker. Installation was quite easy. Even with this less desirable location, the hoses and extension cord passed easily behind the dishwasher. I did it myself, no plumber or electrician required. Why not get a demand water heater for the kitchen sink? Money. Any demand water heater you buy will require a new, dedicated electrical line with a dedicated breaker. This will easily cost you $1500 or more for the electrician to install it. A demand water heater retrofit really only makes sense if you are replacing your main water heater, and in my case, I would STILL want my mini-tank, because the distance problem would not be solved. It would make some sense to have a demand water heater installed at the sink for NEW HOME construction, but the retrofit is far too expensive to justify. Now that I have converted my sink hot water usage from gas to electric, I can start working on converting to solar. Get this mini-tank. It will save you water and energy, even if you connect it to the hot water line. What you will need for a standard, under-the-sink installation: 2 ½”npt to 3/8” compression hoses, 2’ long 1 3/8” compression tee 1 3/8” female to female connector (male on both ends) Aluminum water heater pan You will use the connector to connect the 2’long 3/8” hose to the hot water hose for the sink tap. For my installation, I used the following: 2 ½” npt to 3/8” compression hoses, 1’ long 2 3/8” dishwasher supply hoses, 6’ long 3 3/8” female to female connectors, two to connect the 1’ hoses to the 6’ hoses, 1 3/8” compression tee 1 12 gauge extension cord, 8’ long Aluminum water heater pan Depending on your kitchen and location, you may want to plumb a PVC pipe into the over-pressure valve and either to a floor drain or to the outside. My kitchen has waterproof tile floors, so I can take a chance on an overflow filling the drain pan and spilling out onto the kitchen floor. I can just mop it up. I connected the 6’ DW supply hoses to the 1’ hoses. It was the easiest way to get the long 3/8” compression hoses to connect to the ½” npt connections at the water heater. Oh also, you need a good flashlight or headlamp, and a couple of pairs of adjustable spanners (small crescent wrenches). Note: Technically, you will need an electrician to install the 7 gallon version, but it does not require a new or dedicated circuit, as it still only pulls 12 amps. If you are comfortable connecting the electrical line into your existing box, you will be OK. Add a little cost for connectors or possibly a larger electrical box. In some municipalities, you may need a permit and inspection because this may qualify as adding an electrical circuit. The 7 gallon would be nice, but it also takes longer for the tank to heat and takes up more room. All good products though. I updated this on 3/19/2022 to correct some typos. ... show more

  • Bought 2, both quickly went bad. Bought 2, both quickly went bad.
Size: 2.5 Gallon Pattern Name: Water Heater
I purchased the first unit in June of 2018 and had to replace it in December of 2019. It was leaking due to corrosion around the heating element port. The second one just went bad in October of 2020. It is leaking due to corrosion around the hot water outlet pipe. The first lasted 1year 6 months. The second lasted 10 months. The Warranty states the inner tank is warranted against leaks for 6 years, and other components for two years. We do have a water softener for the house, so there is no issue with hard water deposits. The inside of the tank is coated and looks pristine, EXCEPT that both the inlet and outlet pipes show significant corrosion on the inside where they pass through the tank. The magnesium anode is gone in well under 10 months. The manual does specify that the magnesium anode be inspected once a year, and this one lasted no where near that long. The tank was corroded to the point of failure at 10 months; less time than the 1-year inspection interval. I will be calling Bosch customer service on Monday. Hopefully they will provide a refund on this unit. 10/27/2020 update I talked to Bosch about a refund. They do not give refunds.... at all. They did say will be sending a replacement unit. They also said I need to inspect the anode on a 6-month interval vs. the 12-month interval stated in the manual. The inspection process is to in-install the unit and drain it. Then remove the heating element, which has the anode attached. If the unit failed any time after the 12-month inspection period, they would not honor the 6-year tank leak warranty unless I had performed the inspection and replaced the anode. This does not give me much hope for these things. They work great... until they leak all over the floor. 03/30/2021 update I checked the anode at 6 months. It was ready for replacement. There was sediment from the anode in the bottom, which I washed out. The interior looks good. There is no corrosion at the inlet or outlet ports, both of which can be seen with a flashlight. We have a water softener for the house as the city water is rather hard. It’s a standard salt-based (NaCl) system. There was little or no hard water build-up on the heating element. It looks like so long as you keep a good anode in the system and don’t have hard water, this water heater will last a while. It quickly corrodes and leaks otherwise. The image of the heating element, new anode and old anode shows the condition of the heating element and anode after 6 months. The 12-month inspection interval is way too short for my conditions. ... show more

  • I love my new heater, but install wasn't as simple as I epxected.
Size: 2.5 Gallon Pattern Name: Water Heater
In my kitchen, I always had to wait 15-20 seconds for hot water. Doing this many times, a day, I knew I was wasting a ton of water or using cold when I really wanted hot. When replacing the kitchen cabinet, I installed this sucker INLINE with the hot water. Now I get almost instant hot water at the faucet every time. No waiting, no waste. I absolutely LOVE it. If you try to install the 2.5 gallon tank as your ONLY hot water heater, remember, you only get a few seconds of truly hot water before the cold water coming in mixes in the tank and cools it all off. The Inline method is awesome though. I've found that running the hot water full on, I get about 15 seconds of hot water (rinsing a dish or two), then as it keeps running, the water temp cools a little to just "warm" as the cold water in the pipes fills the mini-tank, then after a minute or so, it heats back up to HOT as the water from the house's main hot water tank finally arrives. This is one of my favorite additions to my kitchen remodel and works great, but TWO important notes: 1. It requires it's own 20A circuit! 1440 watts. I didn't pay attention, and was expecting a lower wattage, so this was a surprise to me. Luckily, I was able to add a circuit because I already had the walls open and have a ton of electrical work experience. If you try to share a circuit with a dishwasher or something (any open outlet *under* your sink), its VERY likely to blow the breaker. Make sure to plan this. 2. Think about your space underneath your Kitchen Sink. This heater is NOT small, and barely fits between the sink drain plumbing and the back of the sink cabinet, and if you have your water valves on the back wall, you can't put it there. If you have a garbage disposal too, you could end up with an impossible situation, or need to do some VERY creative plumbing. Make sure to look at the measurements, and be very sure where you can install it before starting. Good Luck! If you're doing a major remodel and can put these in at every sink, I'd do it!! ... show more

  • Doesn't get any better than this! Check power source...
Size: 4 Gallon Pattern Name: Water Heater
I first installed the ES-4 in my shop which does not have a hot water heater. So cleaning my hands especially in freezing/sub freezing temps was very uncomfortable. My well water line is deep enough not to freeze but it's still water coming from 200+ ft underground. The install was really straight forward and simple. A longer power cord would be nice but for the price point it's a VERY minor issue. I placed it directly on my cement floor next to the sink and WOW in 10 minutes I had hot water. I was concerned that sitting on an ice cold cement shop floor would cause it to burn a lot of energy. BUT to my surprise It's so efficient that I rarely see the light come on. In fact I've only seen it come on 2-3 times with over two months of use. This tells me that it's thermal qualities are excellent. Now for the best part... I installed one in my house under the kitchen sink but never got a light or hot water :-( So I sent it back to Amazon after I tried troubleshooting the issue (which I could not figure out) and they shipped me another free. In two days I received another one and installed it. Unfortunately I had the same problem. I was thinking that it was because for some weird reason it wasn't compatible with a hot water line coming from my water heater. Because that was the only difference in installing this second unit from the original install in my shop. The reason for installing one under the kitchen sink is that my water heater is far away from my kitchen sink (freezing cold well water just like my shop) and takes a full minute to get hot water and wastes precious well water not to mention the energy waste to reheat the hot water tank. So I called Bosch tech support and they were very patient and helped me troubleshoot the issue. In just a few minutes they solved the issue. The outlet I was plugging the unit into was only energized when the garbage disposal was turned on. Duh! I felt like an idiot because I'm pretty good about troubleshooting problems. The Bosch rep was very kind and told me that I'm not the only one that has missed this simple fix. Cudos to Amazon and BOSCH for a great product and support! Check your power source... DUH! ... show more
