    • Great reader, passable tablet
First the reader, the important part. This is probably the best software I’ve used for reading. I’ve had Android and use an iPhone and always found myself return to Apple’s Books. Despite some issues. This program does it all, and does it well. Pages load sharp and clear. No ghosting. Much like an LCD. But for the small amount of ram it’s surprising fast. Page turns are instant. No problems on small images or gigantic multi-hundred megabyte photos. Doesn’t choke on mega epubs hundreds of mega in airs. Not on extremely long books in the thousands of pages. Handles solid epub files just as well as split internals. CSS modifications and disabling works. And it actually competently loads replacement fonts. Then there’s the tablet. Yes, you can install Google kits and use the play store. Or side load apk files. You probably don’t want to. This is no onyx. It’s simple not meant for tablet use. Apps work, but not well. ... show more

    • Not for students
This device is fantastic if you're a reader and take occasional notes. It's also really good for journaling. However, navigating through the notes as a student is inconvenient. As much as I wanted to make this my default note taking device as a student, the condensed size and short battery life makes it hard for that to be so, resulting in me having to return it. Granted, I've love reading and journaling on it. If that's all you'll want it for, this tablet is the best you'll get. ... show more

    • Versatile, works great at what it does
I'd like to say, the experience of using the tablet is quite good. It operates and runs well, is fairly responsive. I personally use this for manga/reading, and not too much on the writing side, but the writing/highlighting functionality is great. The storage space it comes with is a bit less than you'd hope for for 32GB (about 22/32GB usable). When I got this, there was a system bug where simply opening the music app caused a system crash which bricked the tablet! And it was consistent too. The only fix was to factory reset (thankfully, the boot menu does allow changing the selection, but it took me a bit to find out how since there's no volume button). I submitted a bug report and they did fix the problem about a week later (and personally notified me), so no more broken OS (afaik). So that's wonderful. You all should have no issues now since I reported it. Just MAKE sure to update your firmware. The dictionary app requires manual dictionaries. The ones they recommend you to install are unusable as there is MASSIVE whitespace and scrolling in the popup dictionary definitions. I DID find ones that work. Go to github and search for "BoboTiG/ ebook-reader-dict" which provides great english wiktionary dictionaries that display perfectly (choose the etymology free ones). Another alternative on github is "Vuizur / Wiktionary-Dictionaries" As other reviewers said, battery life isn't stellar. It drains faster than you'd like it too. This is by far the biggest pain point of it. The less you refresh the screen, the longer the life, but it still drains more than you'd want. Tips for extending battery life: Turn off wifi when at all possible. DO NOT leave it enabled. Same goes for bluetooth. If you do not need the light, TURN it off. Adjust apps as best as you can to remove animations (some can do this such as tachiyomi). And try not to use apps which require actual scrolling, but just instantly go to the next page. The system comes with the ability to freeze user installed apps. USE it! Freeze ALL your installed apps. You don't want them open ever (except when using them) as it'll be a resource drain. You won't receive notifications from them, but that's the price for increasing battery life. ... show more

    • Software issues out of the box but fixed
Edit: You can see my original review below about a major software issue out of the box. After entering feedback via their device, they responded within 2 days. They granted me access to a beta version software update which fixed the problem and now I'm really enjoying the tablet, now that it's not crashing Whenever sound tries to play! With the problem fixed, it's working as advertised and really cool to have an e-reader with full android app capabilities. Original review: I received it earlier today and was excited to get it all set up. I've found that the whole thing crashes when I run any app or website that utilizes audio. I wasn't sure if I was using specific apps via google play store that would cause the problem. I performed a factory reset on the whole device and with a completely clean operating system, I opened the default "music" app which is pre-loaded as part of the device. Same problem happened where the device immediately crashed. I did some searching and found that others have had this problem and suspected it's related to the latest firmware updates. However, there were reddit posts talking about this in 2022, so I would hope such a major issue wouldn't be hanging around for multiple months like this. Using audio and a few typical Android apps was a major reason I wanted to pay a bit more for this device compared to other e-readers. I have submitted a technical support ticket to them and hope this can be resolved. I'll be happy to revise this review if they can fix the issue. ... show more

    • My Favorite Piece of Tech
This has become such a versatile and useful tool for me. I've used it daily for about 6 months now and it's a great little device. The built in reader is great for marking up ebooks and of course the ability to use the Kindle app and Logos app are huge for my work flow. The e ink setting take a bit of experimentation to master but I have no complaints. I also highly recommend the boox cover with page turn buttons. ... show more
