We got this to replace the standard shredder we have used for years (the long strips cut). This is a vast improvement over that one. - quieter overall, and by quite a bit. The ones we have had before we almost twice as loud. Now to be fair, this one does have a kind of whine to it, but it doesn't bother me and stops when the blades stop. As this one only has the blades working when there is paper in the slot, it is a big improvement over our prior one in that way as well, as that one basically just had on/off function so it was always turning and noisy when on -the bucket is large and allows us to get through a much larger batch before having to bag up the shreds, making the entire process much smoother with fewer starts and stops. - the build quality is about where you'd expect...nice as far as affordable office equipment goes, but not the same quality as professional office supplies. - the small shreds are where this one shines. the cross cut creates overall much, much smaller shreds than your typical long strip variety, but it also does it in a variety of shapes and sizes, making attempting to put it back together a real mess and chore. This unit shines above all the others we have used in this regard, even a few larger professional ones I've used in large office environments. This unit likely won't last as long as the expensive professional ones, but it definitely competes in performance. - the auto feed function is amazing. it really cuts down both on noise and time. The machine only runs where there is paper in that feed, and makes it so you don't have to stand there holding pieces of paper while a machine slowly eats it. What would have easily taken us an hour took about six minutes with this unit, and that alone makes it worth it. We love this unit, as much as one can 'love' a paper shredder. It is fantastic for home or small office environments. It is less noisy, I don't really notice it as much from the next room, where I could definitely tell when the previous ones were being used. It does a fantastic job on the shredding itself, eating everything we threw at it, and the auto feed makes it a breeze to use. Would absolutely definitely get this one again. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Wow, just wow! This is the quintessential of all paper shredders! I remember sitting on my mom's floor putting in one sheet at a time, having to cut all the staples off and throw those away, and shredding one sheet at a time . . . This shredder changes everything I ever knew about shredders! There is a power button on the back you flip on. You have two choices, 1) you can shred up to 8 pages in the front slot manually, with paper clips or staples still attached . . . it's that strong. Or, 2) you can grab up to 100 sheets with NO paper clips or staples and auto feed them in the back slot. The machine will auto reverse itself in the end to clear any problems but occasionally it may jam and you can just flip the front mode to reverse to try to clear it. Because this machine is so high powered, you can only do the Auto Feed for 10 mins and then it needs 40 min to cool down and the Manual Feed can go for 5 min straight and then also needs 40 min to cool down. It has an 'Overheat / OverLoad' button if it gets too hot. The paper shreds into micro cuts, not long strips that can be glued back together. In the end, there are thousands of pieces. My photos is of one piece of paper, it's that small a cut. It has rollers so if you have it for an office, you can roll it from desk to desk as needed. Be sure to remove the rollers from inside the shredded paper bin after unpacking, otherwise you will be pulling them off the bottom covered with thousands of cuts pieces of paper like I did : ) The best part of this fabulous shredder is that it is on sale at the time I am writing this review which makes it an excellent value, so if it were me, I would grab it if I didn't already own it. Love this shredder! Not only is it quieter than my old one, but the pieces it cuts are super tiny. And there's a tray you can leave sheets in to just let it pull things in and go almost automated? Fantastic! This is such a life saver, makes cleaning out old documents super easy! Highly recommended!

    • It's a powerhouse!
I am so sick of dealing with small under powered shredders that break a couple of months in. This thing is a beast and powerhouse! We do a lot of batch heavy shredding at work and this is hungry for paper! Not sure if it's the auto feed or that it just likes to work hard, but we keep the paper feeding into it and it never stops. Our previous shredder would shut down after 20 minutes due to the motor overheating, so then we would just switch to another shredder and cycle through them....but since we got this one it just keeps going and going.. I am so happy. Normally I would get a second one, but so far no need! ... show more

    • Be sure to remove rollers from basket before shredding any paper
Very easy to set up, but I jumped the gun and tried it out before fully reading the instructions! I missed the part about removing the basket to take out the rollers. When I opened the basket, sure enough the rollers were in there taped to the bottom and covered in shredded paper! They were a little difficult to pull out as they were strongly taped and when I tried to remove them, shredded paper went flying. So a word to the wise - remove the rollers before shredding any paper!! ... show more
