  • Oversized aluminum legs--I'll say!
This telescoping ladder was beefier and sturdier than I expected. I had bought it for attic access and see it's usefulness for so much more. I experienced no flexing when standing on it. It is a little heavier than i expected, but this is no complaint given its high performance.

  • Decent ladder but Watch Your Fingers
This is a handy ladder that easily extends to the height that you need. It came with a strap with a plastic buckle to hold the ladder together when collapsed. Because of the location of the strap, however, it broke the first time we used the ladder. The buckle is located right at the top of one of the steps which makes it easy to step on when coming down the ladder which is exactly what happened. To extend the ladder, you just pull up the next rung. To collapse the ladder, you have to push in on the black buttons on both sides of each step. Be careful that your fingers are not in the way when the rungs collapse, or you will get pinched – it is VERY painful and can cause real damage. I thought my fingers were clear – they weren’t. When collapsing the ladder, the weight from all of the levels above is what moves each rung down. Make sure everyone using this ladder understands how it works and what they have to do to collapse the ladder safely. The ladder is very strong and has a 330 lb. weight limit. The telescoping nature makes it easy to store in a small space such as behind a door or in a closet. It also makes it very easy to carry in the trunk of a car. ... show more

  • compact telescoping ladder, not light. watch your fingers when collapsing the ladder
BOCOM 12ft telescoping ladder is a great choice if you need a tall ladder but you don't have a lot of room for storage. It is made of aluminum but still much heavier than my aluminum folding ladders. But it is much lighter than my original Little Giant ladder. BOCOM ladder is easily extended and collapsed during usage. But I feel safer with Little Giant's metal locking mechanism than the plastic one that comes with BOCOM. I am worry one day it will break without warning after many uses. Collapsing the ladder can be a little tricky because it can come down pretty fast. To avoid getting fingers caught, I like to lay the ladder flat and collapse the sections slowly. Overall, it is a decent for quick and small jobs. It can also transport easily with a car. Around the house, I would still use Little Giant for high risk chores. I will use this ladder and folding ladder for quick and easy projects. 4 star. ... show more

  • Novel take on a classic - best used as a backup
Innovative design for a large (12') ladder in a compact space. Ladder compacts to be able to carry in car, truck, or store away in the garage. It's super easy to use, instructions are good, and feels well built. Given that it's a telescoping ladder, the higher you get the stability becomes more of an issue. Not what you normally expect from a ladder but more the ladder bowing in towards the middle as the rungs are stacked on each other. Aside from this, the locking mechanism seemed solid and gave me no problems. Setup and tear down were easy and it stows easily for later use. Given that I've got a number of ladders (that I paid a lot more for), they'll stay my primary but this one definitely has a niche fit that'll get it pulled out regularly. I'll give it an A for innovative design and a B for functionality / construction quality ... show more

  • Compact when collapsed but heavy
The key feature of this ladder is that it is collapsible and takes up relatively little storage space. I had seen this type of ladder for years at RV stores and had wanted to try one, but never took the plunge. While the seller touts this ladder for all types of home and work uses, I have never seen this type of ladder in any physical store except RV stores, so I assume that must be one of the most important uses. It is what I wanted to try one for; I currently carry a short stepladder mounted on the back of my motorhome, and I hoped a collapsible ladder would be a better alternative. As an RV ladder, this has some definite strong points. First of all, it takes up little space, so it would be feasible to keep it in a storage bay. Secondly, it is long; at 12.5', it is twice the length of the stepladder I carry and is longer than any other type of ladder I can imagine carrying in an RV. The ladder is long enough to use to climb onto the top of a motorhome, although motorhomes and many other RVs have built on ladders to access the roof. This ladder is useful when accessing anything on the edge of the roof without actually climbing on the roof. I can access my solar panels and vents from the side, which is almost impossible with a six foot stepladder (I have needed this capability on a number of occasions). While this ladder has strong points as an RV ladder, it also has downsides. First, it is fairly heavy. The weight is listed at 20 pounds; I don't know the weight of my stepladder, but as soon as I picked up the collapsible ladder I knew it was much heavier. The weight is not just an issue when carrying it around; in an RV, it is always important to minimize the cargo weight. Next, there are jobs that would be very difficult with this type of ladder. For example, recently I replaced some window seals. With this collapsible ladder, I would have had to place the ladder next to the window when removing it, which would be difficult with a large, heavy window. With the stepladder, I could put the ladder in front of the window while I was removing it. Finally, this ladder has to be leaned against the RV, increasing the chances of scratching the finish. The ladder itself works as expected for a collapsible ladder. It feels quite stable even when I am high up, which surprised me (collapsible ladders look a little unstable because of skinny top section poles. It does not shake or flex excessively, and it is easy to extend. I don't like the plastic slide buttons that release each section when collapsing the ladder; I worry that the plastic will not hold up to extensive use. I also do not like the way it collapses; slide the two buttons and the section collapses. It collapses hard, especially when almost all the upper sections are coming down together. There is a warning about getting fingers caught between sections when collapsing; I can't imagine the damage that could be done if my (or anyone else's) fingers were to get caught in there. Overall, I give this ladder four stars because most of the issues I have are inherent to this type of ladder, other than the use of plastic hardware. If you want a collapsible ladder, I believe this is a good option and a good value. However, as an RV ladder I don't think a collapsible is the best option. I am considering whether a lightweight eight foot stepladder would fit on the back of my motorhome, which would minimize most of the stepladder problems without taking on the issues of a collapsible ladder. ... show more

  • Nice extending ladder, BE CAREFUL collapsing it
The ladder is easy to carry and position, and fairly easy to extend. It is fairly stable when climbing, though I would still prefer a helper to hold it for safety. Collapsing the ladder is dangerous in the sense that it is easy to try to insert hands between the rungs to help wiggle the sections and loosen them while pushing open the spring loaded clasps - this can easily cause injury if / when the top comes down. I highly recommend laying the extended layer down on the ground to collapse it, to avoid any chance of injury. ... show more
