Read all of the instructions the way to put on auto mode is after setting up your switched outlet times you need to hold the manual button for 4-5 seconds till you see it switch on auto mode.

    • Confusing auto on/off settings
After reading another comment about the auto on/off vs. manual on/off settings, I finally figured out how to get the timer to work. I'm usually pretty tech-savvy, but the settings are not intuitive at all. "Auto off" does not mean "turn auto setting off" (i.e.- switch to manual mode). Instead, "auto off" means "I want auto mode, but it's outside of the desired hours, so please don't turn the light on right now." The device should really know whether or not you want the light on if you've already inputted the current time and timer settings, but apparently it can't figure that out. So if you want the light to turn off at 9pm and you are programming everything for the first time at 10pm, you need to select "auto OFF" and not "auto on" because "auto on" will keep the light on when you don't want it on. (If you see "manual on/off," hold the manual button down for a few seconds and it will switch to the auto mode.) ... show more
